"Atkins' death comes less than a month after a parole board turned down the terminally ill woman's last chance at freedom on Sept. 2. She was brought to the hearing on a gurney and slept through most of it.

California Department of Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton said that Atkins died late Thursday night. She had been diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008, had a leg amputated and was given only a few months to live.

She underwent brain surgery, and in her last months was paralyzed and had difficulty speaking. But she managed to speak briefly at the Sept. 2 hearing, reciting religious verse with the help of her husband, attorney James Whitehouse.

She had been transferred to a skilled nursing facility at the California Central Women's Facility at Chowchilla exactly one year before she died."

I still remember those vicious and senseless murders that took place when I was a child. The killings were merciless, almost soulless. I'm glad that Ms Atkins made her peace with God who is all understanding and all forgiving. It isn't my place to forgive, but I will always remember the horror of these deaths.
Thanks Dee

Sorry, can't get to the site right now to read this...but, in my little humble opinion, it is about time.

She showed zero compassion for those that she butchered.

I am old enough to remember it when it happened. I hope she did make her peace with the Almighty God, because he has so much compassion, much more that I would for her!

Thanks Dee.

In this case, I kinda wish I did believe in religion because I would like this woman's spirit to burn in religion's hell for eternity. She may have made peace in her own mind with the imaginary guy in the sky, but she never showed any remorse for the crime she committed which broke one of the big guy's 10 rules.

GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH....SHE KILLED MY BEAUTIFUL SHARON TATE, who was so full of LOVE/LIFE and Good Will!! Too Bad the Judge did not GIVE ALL THE MANSON MURDERERS, A DEATH SENTENCE, IN 1970!! Society, Does not NEED PSYCHOTIC CRIMINALS, in their MIDST!! There is no sympathy for them in my soul-- for EVIL, that ignored a Beautiful,Young,Crying Woman, begging for hers...and her unborn Baby's LIFE, to be spared!! I love you Sharon, RIP!! Activist Alexandra Marcella Manolesco-Ami!!

That is a shame,,and I am so sorry for for both your loss and situation..

While I will never wish harm to anyone..I do believe Atkins belonged in prison..and Iit is a good thing that she was not released..she did not deserve to be free..

I am not religious so to me her making peace with god is... whatever. We paid for her to live all these years and are still paying for that whack job bastard leader of hers. When it is in our face, plainly as these murders were, and the people guilty, like these were, why really should we spare their lives?

She, along with all of the Manson followers who participated as well as Manson himself, should have been put to death years ago when the sentences were handed down. [Thanks to the spineless loser justices on the California Supreme Court bench at that time.] The money saved should have been spent on those left behind who sacrificially serve, or who serve and become disabled. [Thank-you Blu AbbeyCat, et. at..] Society is screwed up being concerned with murderers lives and not with the widows, widowers, and parent-less, etc..

She only has to answer to the Lord, her creator.

The way the death penalty is setup in California the only way those sentenced to death get their punishment is by dying via illness or natural causes. She will now have to answer to God for her horrible sins. I remember the news coverage of her crime like it was yesterday. At least she had time to make her peace with God, something that was taken away from Sharon Tate and the other unfortunate victims. May the Lord have mercy on her soul.

As a staunch believer in reincarnation, I expect that Susan Atkins is likely to come back, not as a murder victim, although that's a possibility, but more likely as someone who loved someone dearly that was murdered. Someone very dear to me was murdered in the early 1990's, and I still miss him. There is nothing more senseless than a senseless death - and Susan Atkins had at least two to atone for.
