Even Robert Mugabe Thinks It Was Wrong to Kill Cecil the Lion

In his first public comments about the lion, President Mugabe said that Zimbabweans had failed in their responsibility to protect Cecil and that they should protect their natural resources from what he called foreign vandals.

He's partially correct and that's coming from someone who think he and his regime need replacing.

Thank you Rosie. Why is the ban for killing such wildlife lifted and not made permanent?!

Everything is Mugabe's fault, he lives in a gold palace & eats baby elephants!
His people are starving, hence poaching wildlife to survive!

Mugabe can go.....
stand in front of one of his gold mirrors & contemplate the reflection!

That filth is so repulsive. Really his mindset is just something else given his despicable track record with both animals+his own people. Sick bastard.

Mugabe is of course doing this for POLITICAL CAPITAL in his country, blaming the "Foreign Vandals". Blaming them on the one hand, in order to garner popularity with his people,
while taking the "Vandals' " foreign money GLADLY with the other hand!

The thing is, the large amount of money spent on Foreigners' Safaris in Africa, in Zimbabwe for example, to make it "sound good", they say it goes to "conserve" the species being hunted.
But the CATCH is, THERE IS NO TRANSPARENCY as to where the money ACTUALLY GOES.
Much or most of it can really end up in the hands of the UTTERLY CORRUPT ELITE. Not for Conservation, which is mostly badly under-funded.

The "legal" hunting ONLY ENABLES THE POACHERS - as in the case of Cecil.
So, of course, Mugabe is being an utter Hypocrite. But that's par for the course, what else is new?
Kenya is one African country that has BANNED HUNTING by Foreigners and has some Conservation Successes to show.

Mugabe is blaming "FOREIGN Poachers" who are quite safely out of his reach and he doesn't have to go to the trouble of going after them. Probably countries where they live, won't extradite them actually. [The quite legitimate excuse being, the corruption and extremely poor Human Rights Record of Mugabe's govt and court system.]
That way he is trying to DEFLECT attention from his own countries' Poachers, who often HAVE TIES WITH THE CORRUPT ELITE...

Unfortunately from experience, all dictators - although in our case here were children apprentices and purposes were different, were political - have to go at some point the image of "good guys". In fact, think about it, is not the prerogative of only the dictators. The histrionics is a natural gift in a huge part of those dedicated to politics. The only difference with Mugabe is that very few manage to collect the crimes he collects and level of cruelty that he reaches.

Robert Mugabe is a mass murderer and a huge hypocrite: he couldn't care less about Cecil the lion, if there hadn't been an outcry over it.

I believe this shows he is feeling the effects of the international outcry. It also shows that he has decided not to go into a defiant posture claiming that we are using Cecil for some nefarious purpose.

So although it is ludicrous hypocrisy coming from an awful man, it is good to hear it.
