Shark Jobs: Nature's Dirty Work

They might all look like troublemakers, but most sharks have a grander purpose - or at least a useful one - beyond scaring surfers. Some eat gross things or serve as ferries to total suckers.

Thanks Nancy for this!

Yes I agree Mary, we need them!

Sadly I was watching a special on Animal Planet last night it showed what is being done to these Sharks in graphic detail, they hauled them up on to the boat, cut off the fin, then just threw them back into the water to fall to the bottom of the ocean to die and horrible death. Just so some people can have their stupid soup!

I was so mad I wanted to run into the T.V. and sick the stupid ship!

Outrageous, noted with total disgust!

I saw recently a TV programme that explained that the shark population has dropped so drastically that the red squids population is spiralling out of control. The sharks used to eat them, but now the sharks are being so heavily over-fished for their fins and other useless parts, these squid are everywhere. The problem now is that the squid are killing and eating everything else. Just shows how delicate our eco systme is and that if people went without shark fin soup, the oceans could be in much better shape. We do need sharks, Mary, you're right!

Once you get rid of one species, you end up with a TON of problems.

Or sometimes in areas people introduce another species and the original species die.

Totally upsetting!

Actually after the earthquake during the summer here in San Diego we did have a giant Squid float ashore....jeepers.

Problems with the Sharks are that a TON of San Diego surfers are thought to be seals and are attacked...thus making a bunch of people hate them, but YEP, they are needed to keep the balance of nature!

Man claimed to be the smartest creature on earth, but they choose fake babbling of aphrodisiac, anti aging, and gigantic lies about Jaw I-IV over scientific fact that Sharks are better nature guardian than human themselves.

If that is called smart, then, perhaps I am the most idiotic person in the world, for not buying all those crap.

Poor sharks have been caught for their cartilago and them thrown to death. I hope some day we'll leave the seas alone.
