Women are a gift and to be treated with respect and dignity.Their bodies are not to be treated for sexual gratification. It's time men began to honor and cherish women as they do if it were their own mother. I wonder how they would feel if their own mother was treated as they have treated the women they have raped.

This is such an important petition, and that is why it is so frustrating that I got this answer when I tried to sign:
We're sorry, but it appears that you are not eligible to participate in this campaign. This could be for one of several reasons, possibly:

* You do not live in the target state or district, or if you do;
* We may have not been able to map your address to your elected official

Thank you so much, Brandy, for posting this
petition.
I must echo the words of my friend, Richard.
Women are to be treated with dignity and respect,
even defference, to be treated like the gifts of God
that you ladies are to us men.
I so deeply appreciate the friendship of every woman that's
in my life, and I respect women to the core of my spirit.
Petition happily signed, and article
noted.

Noted and petition signed. Rape is a violent crime that is based in uncontrollable rage. It has nothing to do with sexuality, nobody "asks for it" and rape is one of the crimes that has an extremely high rate of recidivism. Important story, Brandy! Thanks for bring it in to us for discussion and action on the petition.

Carolyn has it right! Rape is a crime of violence usually caused by rage. It is the attempt to exert power over those against whom the perpetrator feels revenge has been earned.

There is no greater crime against nature that to "take " something from someone that does not belong to you. Once comfortable with small things the problem can only grow. To cause injury to someone else's spirit, take the joy from their lives is a horrendous violation.

So many wild man loose in the this modern world that we called civilised. Yet the animal in each and everyone of us needs to be restrained. But..what have we? ..... psychologist, psychiatrist, police, doctors, executives, preachers, spiritualist, administrators, law makers, rulers and the great numbers of professionals....they just signifies human weaknesses subdued by the human lust..There's no end to it for as long as we just shout.." this should not happen and that should not be done"...The world is simply full of depressed, deprived and degenerated people...mind you..we are part to blame...I too, fear the fate of my 2 young daughters..so what do I do. The best I can think of is to prepare them not to become vulnerable to violence, make them strong and capable to fend themselves but knowing there is no assurance of their safety..I pray for for their safety. pray for peace and harmony amongst our society and people we live with..yet there is abundance of violence being reported in the news all around us..kidnapping, murders, killing, rapes and all.. some of which with blessing of the rulers and governments. the weak (NOT ONLY THE WOMEN) continue to be violated for as long as they allow themselves to remain weak. It's not just the wild and unrestrainable man..it's the society, the values (the double standard), the capitalist craving and greed, the superior and self-centred beings, the imperfect laws..in short. We need a truly great OVERHAULING of the entire system before we can ever stop this violence against the meek and the weak..ARE WE PREPARED FOR IT. Will the intellect of this world work towards that..or just live it to some others with the authority to represent us (But too busy to look into such petty issues that may not be beneficial to them save for the mileage they gather from such a front). I say SUCH HARSH ACTION REQUIRES HARSH TREATMENT just as prevention is better than cure. .yet our values differ..what is fair may not be just.

It has been my experience that men who rape and violate woman and children usually are cowards when faced with a real man. But then again, there are those that are just evil. Just like my step-father.

MEN get raped too, and abused physically and mentally and sexually, we need to focus on the whole human race. People forget men get hurt too, and men are the ones including boys not to admit it or tell others.

So if you thing men do not get raped think again, and I do know how important it is for us all to not get raped or hurt sexually or physically. We need to be against all violence not just that against women.

My best to those that are fighting this for all the women strong enough to be here another day, to endure what most will never know or their worst nightmares could never help them to see what it is to live the life of an abused woman.
To be one that was strong enough to still be here...to be for a reason...one of them is to be the voice & that last grasp of hope for that one woman who feels like there is nothing else here for her....we all need to support & fight for others, both man & woman...but only until we all stop FIGHTING ourselves first.

i agree we need to help women worldwide with domestic abuse. HOWEVER, I sincerely think that we need to start here at home. There are many women here in our own country that are abused in many ways and are too scared and intimidated to speak out and ask for protectio. These women, and men as men are victims of domestic also, need to be taken care of before we look to help other countries. When are we going to start taking care of our own people instead of worrying about other countries facing the same challenges?

This is only part of a problem that is going on over there and needs our attention. This country and everyother country in the UN has ignored it. There has been a genocide of native people in that area for the last 4 years and no one steped up to help. I believe that if you knew the cases of the women in the (DRC) you would understand why this is so urgent. The women are not raped by one men but by a gang of men. They are beatten and left for dead. many women wind up spending months in the hospital and a lot of them don't make it. The ones that do don't want to live because they know it is going to happen again because there is no one there to protect them. There husbands have been killed and there young sons either ran away to survive or become part of the rebels. Some are even forced to rape their own mothers. This is why this needs attention. The rebels and Nomadic Arabs that were hired to kill off the natives by the Sudanese Goverment are using rape as a weapon.

Noted and signed. The problem is world wide. Sill in all countries. You find it everywhere. It will take much time.
I have been in such a situation I hate to say more than once. I blame myself for the way my son is because of
his father's abuse and I was afraid to get out.His father a police officer. They are every where! I cannot explain
more.

Noted and signed -- I believe it is time for people to realize that women should be cherished and honored as life-givers instead of being used and abused. The elimination of violence towards women and the rebalancing of Her place within our society is one of a handful of very important steps we can take towards world peace.

I thought I signed this one. Then I went to the CARE site itself, logged in and found it. Yep, there it was. I signed it. Got a note from my representative not more than a few days ago re. this issue. He supports that the violence against women needs to be stopped. 259+ people have signed and/or noted this one. The most I've seen since becoming a member of Care2. I do hope that something good and positive comes from all this. It's time, way past time, to end Violence Against Women.

Being an abused women both from a marriage and from home life, I signed this with pleasure. I hope all read this and we can stop this from happening to others. Why because no women needs to be beaten, molested, raped, mentally abuse, for you know the saying sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you. Will that is not true. Words hurt and they hurt bad, both you and your children too.
