If US Fish & Wildlife has its way, Nov of 2014 is when they would like to begin a mission that involves the use of helicopters dropping an estimated 1.3 metric tons of rat poison over the Southeast Farallon Islands.

When did mankind become so intentionally cruel?

Done. How about finding a natural solution to the problem? Cats eat rats as do owls and hawks. Maybe introducing bobcats onto the islands might work. You don't know until you try but dumping this chemical willy nilly is just asking for trouble.

Good God. What's next? Dropping rat poison on New York City? There are a lot of rats there (both 4 and 2 legged) but even more innocent people.

They did the same thing on "Rat Island" in Alaska. In June 2009, the island was declared rat-free for the first time in 229 years and the islands wildlife is recovering. There were a lot of bird deaths because the contractor dropped way too much poison. I hope they are more careful this time around.

More pollution again. Why not use cats or other animals?

What utter insanity! Am no fan of rats but the killing the rats this way will have a domino effect on other animals in the area as well as a broader range effect by the poison ingested by birds that will prey on the rat carcasses!

Petition signed. Hmm, let's see, we've been trying to poison rats out of existence for centuries, and how successful has that been? NOT. We've only created a lot of dead innocent animals, and the rats ALWAYS come back. They are some of the most intelligent animals around. There are even experiments that seem to say that they can tell each other what is poisonous and not to eat it. This is a stupid waste of taxpayer $.

Signed, shared, recommended and noted.

I am having trouble even trying to comprehend the stupidity of a decision such as this! People who make these kinds of decisions are sick, demented, twisted, psychotic, etc.! They need to be removed from their positions of authority and psychiatrically tested and never be allowed to make these decisions or work in the positions that give them this kind of horrific authority ever again. This just totally enrages me beyond words!
