The August 19 shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and the protests that followed have focused attention on the militarization of police in the United States. Police overreach, especially in African-American neighborhoods...

After that post William, your claims of Jesus Christ and the Buddha being your role models are very, very dubious at best; actually it is completely and utterly unbelievable.

While I generally agree with this article, the list is incomplete. For example, Amerithrax, the anthrax letter attacks of 2001, which were first erroneously blamed on foreign terrorists but turned out to be domestic terrorism, is also extremely significant.

Our police need to be armed as well as the sick killers and terrorist BUT ELECTING people with intelligence, experience, common sense and DECENT, FAIR minds to make the decisions on how, when and where to use force is ALL OF OUR RESPONSIBILITY. LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER GREATLY. Be involved and educated when you go to the polls in your cities and states, IT DOES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFE AN DEATH for our citizens and it could be your family at any given time in this day and age. We can't run scared but we HAVE TO be in control of our own politics and decisions made by those that WE put in authority.

We are living in scary times when all our freedoms are vanishing.

There are a lot of disparities with this. For example, crime concerning abuse, rape, and murder, in some instances is treated with far less urgency and gravitas than financial crime, or crimes against the State/Country. Some police forces are overly aggressive, and yet, our families own experience/s of car crime and theft has left us feeling the police services are utterly weak and redundant.

Our freedoms aren't vanishing, Patricia N.
If fact, we have seen a large number of freedoms being restored.

It's the same old story when changes in anything need to be made to contend with different and fast changing situations. NO BALANCED THINKING!!! Instead of people seriously taking a look at what REALLY needs to happen and the decisions that have to be made to deal with the new, different or intimidating situation, the "decision makers" jump to all in and no serious thinking tolerance or process on one side of the problem OR goes completely off the edge the other way with neither side having ANY decent thought process to come to intelligent, BALANCED decisions or have checks and balances in place to moderate a problem. It's a knee jerk, stupid, panic of all in or nothing and it divides and hurts this country. It's a process that has been worked on for years now to scare and fear monger the masses using ANY PERCEIVED threat to give the authorities "Carte Blanche" to do whatever in the hell they want to those they disagree with or that challenge them in their deluded self serving way of "protecting the people and community safety" Bull Crap. George Bush and Cheney totally swung the damn door open to this after 911 and were happy to do it and it boosted their authoritarian power and it BLEEDS right down into our local communities. It's a part of the old "trickle down" that has worked FOR THEM AGAIN. Powers and equipment given to untrained police departments with no correct or ongoing procedures or directives put in place for the use of lethal power gave these ignorant people "toys" to play with without ANY form of safety control for American citizens. It's up to US to get it changed and get it changed NOW!!!! Life is, has always been and always will be a gamble every day we wake up but to think that our police departments and officers have the right to shoot first and ask questions later in matters of civil protests or peaceful demonstrations is NOT what anyone in this country should ever be subjected to or expected to tolerate. As far as I'm concerned the police need to be armed to combat terrorism whether it be home grown or invasive but as I said the people sitting in the "driver's seat" have to be smart enough and logical enough to know when to use it and how to use it and have some damn common sense as to what the outcome is going to be for the PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE SERVING. We have to stop putting non-thinking reactive idiots with BS talking points in office and take the responsibility that is ours to stop and think about who's going to make these decisions when situations arise. It may take just a little more time but the consequences are deadly serious for us all when we don't think clearly and VET THESE CANDIDATES FOR ANY OFFICE. Putting people in office that are going to make daily decisions about our families and lives IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY to choose with intelligence and a history of their past services. Don't listen to BS rhetoric and talking points when they are running, take a minute and CHECK THEIR RECORDS. And for all our sake GET OUT AND VOTE EVERY ELECTION!! It does matter to YOU and YOUR families lives.
