What's left of our democratic institutions are under siege.

Very sad, but true. AND, there he is, in all his despicable, somewhat smarmy, slimy, ugliness, Richard Nixon, at the beginning, as it were!

It's certainly sad, & super-serious, to see a leading country going to hell.

Oswald Spengler, wrote a book in 1926, whereby the western culture would go back to neofeudalism or what is known today as fascism. He, being an aristocrat didn't see anything wrong in that. Well that is the whole problem, why should they, that system works for them.

This is why we don't get policies that improve our own lives because most all of them in DC, if not all of them, ARE in that league. It works for them, and as long as they placate to those with even more wealth and power it will continue to work for them. Which is why the Kings of the past how "some" who stayed around him that had life "better" than most the peasants. That was the buffer to keep the peasants in line and feeding the King - while there were others that went to war for the King plundering and pillaging so more gold, jewels, and land would come under his control. I see little difference today.

Why do you think Trump is doing away with basic health care? So no one makes it except the wealthy.

I moved to UK in early 90's and returned to US in 2016 to a country I don't recognize. Most people weren't even aware there was a change as it came gradually to them. They can't see the rest of the developed world has passed them by. For the rest of the world the internet has opened up the world, but for many Americans it's made them even more insular. The minority that was intolerant has become even more intolerant and they elected politicians to be their voice so we now have a government run to make the minority happy while the majority of us suffer. How can that be? Our education system is dismal. Why aren't people marching for better education for their children and grandchildren. Through better education better decisions will be made.

His article is indeed a warning to the American people that their country is turning from a land of democracy into a land of fascism !!
