N & S. Insurance companies are shameless. They also rush women in maternity out the door the day after giving birth. That is too soon. Complications can occur, as they have. When I had my 2 daughters years ago, I was in the maternity ward for 5 days with my first child, and 6 days after I had my second girl, and they weren't c-sections. Nowadays, insurance rates are sky high, and they send patients home way too soon.
Thanks for posting this, Freya.

It horrifies me that US hospital stays are so short. I had a hip replacement in Australia 15 months ago, and was in hospital for a week, followed by a week in rehab, as I had to learn how to maneuver steps. A friend in Maine told me hip surgery patients are out in 48 hours! I think I was still using a bedpan at that stage! I could (just) shuffle around using a walking frame.

Even 48 hours doesn't sound long enough for a mastectomy.
