First Cecil, now Sylvester. Today, officials from South Africa's national parks announced that they will KILL a healthy, three-year-old male lion -- just for being a lion. Please sign this petition to urge the park to rehome Sylvester and spare his life!

Shame on the First Country of the world. A wild animal escaped the sanctuary out of desperation and delivering death sentence for this! In India the same incident took place.A cheetah escaped from the sanctuary , entered a school, mauled a forest department staff" But the " third world country" didn't have to take his life. He was tranquilized and relocated it

Noted and signed with absolute fury!!!! But why am I not surprised at our people taking this stance - its what they are so good at. Sylvester can be relocated to another reputable sanctuary (already offered) but instead of giving him a chance they decide to end his life. They couldn't look after him properly otherwise he would not have escaped. Wicked sobs.

Kate Kenner (215)
Wednesday March 30, 2016, 1:49 am
The double standards are humans are so incredibly loathsome to me. Sylvester is killing for food, for survival, and yet people kill animals every day because the can, for "sport", for any made up reason they can. This is what makes so much of the human species so unappealing, so disgusting to me. They talk about him being dangerous yet look at the news and see who the dangerous ones are -it isn't the lions who act like lions do, it isn't the pit bulls, or the bears but the people-always the people. I feel only shame in being a part of this species and somewhat jokingly call us Mother Nature's one big mistake-the ultimate invasive species. There are good and caring people but sadly we are outweighed by people like those who kill and destroy animals, the planet, and other people although I confess I am more concerned about the animals and the planet.

PLEASE NOTE: SYLVESTER IS STILL ALIVE - The lion that was killed - an escaped 13-year old male named Mohawk, was outside Nairobi National Park. Officials were planning to capture it, but after he attacked someone and became agitated from the noise of gathering crowds, trackers felt there was no other choice.
This is very disturbing!!!! Our only hope for Sylvester, who escaped Karoo National Park (and is still alive as of this writing) is that he does not harm a human being. In the past, he has killed other animals, but trackers draw the line when human life is involved. Keep praying for Sylvester's safe capture and transfer!

Neil L (87)
Wednesday March 30, 2016, 5:32 pm
Oh I see, Sheila... I sit corrected, but this is still just as upsetting, because a lion has been killed when he should have been tranquilized and safely returned to Nairobi National Park! To say his murder is "disturbing" is putting it mildly. I'll continue signing all petitions I can find, in hopes that Sylvester can be saved.

" The park is not entirely fenced to enable traditional migration by animals in search of grazing.
The big cats are under growing pressure as one of Africa's fastest growing cities expands onto ancient migration routes and hunting grounds.
Conservationists say lions lived there before people in the area and are not 'escaping' the park nor 'straying' into human settlements, rather people have moved into the lions' habitat.
In mid-February, two lions spent a day wandering through Kibera, a densely-packed city slum, before returning to the park, and days later more lions were spotted in town."

Honestly what imbeciles these people are and how utterly inhumane to have caused Sylvester such suffering!
Tears are not enough though mine are falling fast and furious...........RIP Sylvester ~ your Spirit is free to roam wherever you wish in peace now & forever more.

FROM APF NEWS: South African wildlife officials said Wednesday they would re-assess a decision to euthanize a lion named Sylvester who has escaped twice from a national park and killed livestock.
Trackers are searching for the three-year-old animal after he slipped through a fence at the Karoo National Park in the south of the country at the weekend.

The South Africa National Parks authority (SANParks) had announced it would put down the lion when he was caught -- triggering outrage from some animal lovers.

But on Wednesday it said euthanizing Sylvester would only be considered if "the damage caused is massive and may include danger to people."

"Some members of the public have been alarmed by reports that the animal will be euthanized, but no decision can be taken until the animal is safely captured," it added.

A lion named Sylvester which is on the loose after escaping from a South African wildlife park may now avoid being shot dead - after a British charity vowed to house him.
The big cat is considered a danger to humans after it slipped through a fence at Karoo National Park and rangers had suggested they would have to euthanize the animal.
But animal welfare group Spots and Stripes Conservation has now offered to help rehome him while South African wildlife officials say they will re-assess their decision to kill the three-year-old lion
The charity said on Facebook: 'Given the plight of the wild lion in Africa the thought of a prime virile and valuable wild male lion for future populations needlessly falling to the bullet is not just astounding but unbelievable.
It has proposed moves to secure permits and move Sylvester to a sanctuary in Limpopo.
Trackers are still searching for the animal, which has already killed livesstock.
