Charitable tax status may do more harm than good for some non-profits.

Every time I turn around, it seems, I have another reason to hate Harper. If you change the second, third and fourth letters in his name - I leave that as an exercise.

Sorry Freya, Every time I turn around, it seems, I have another reason to LOVE Harper!

He is right in preventing politization of NGO and having NGO with fake goals, diverting money from their donors, often unsuspecting, to other goals!

Targeting charities that spend too much of their budgets on political lobbying rather than charitable activities is reasonable if it is done in a non-partisan way. However, the Harper Government seems to have directed the Canada Revenue Agency to disproportionately audit charities that they are ideologically opposed to, i.e. environmental charities, those that support family planning, those that criticize the actions of Israel, etc.

This is just plain wrong.

Yup! This is our dictator Harper. He even made David Suzuki resign.

He can have Canada Revenue investigate charities but not the wealthy who hide their money. That's the Harper government with it's secrets and horrible tactics. I would love to see the back end of the Conservative government. Voting Green next time.
