I'm VERY saddened to hear this. I'll be thinking of her - as will millions of others affected in their lives by her like me - and wishing and hoping that she makes a speedy recovery. . .

It appears the report was premature, as Joni MItchell's official sight is reporting her as responsive and alert. Great to hear! Joni is obviously (and quite rightly) much loved and I wish her a full recovery.

"so impaired as to be incapable of being assessed" - Tragic! Saw your post yesterday, but had no time to note, let alone read the article!

I'm appalled by what the author says about "the medical diagnosis of |Morgellon's] disease (which is described as a crawling, biting or stinging sensation all over the body) [being] disputed by some doctors who call it a form of psychosis." If they publish the opinion of some that it is "a form of psychosis" (which is far from flattering for Joni), then they should have the intellectual honesty to say that it is also considered by others to be caused by GMOs!

What the Mayo Clinic says about Morgellons disease (on page 1; Quoting p.1/Linking to p. 2), without EVER mentioning the GMO link!:

"Morgellons disease is mysterious and controversial. Here you'll find answers to common questions about Morgellons disease — and suggestions for coping with it.

"Morgellons disease is an uncommon, unexplained skin disorder characterized by sores, crawling sensations on and under the skin, and fiber-like filaments emerging from the sores. It's not certain what these strings are. Some say they are wisps of cotton thread, probably coming from clothing or bandages. Others say they result from an infectious process in the skin cells. Further study is needed.

Signs and symptoms

People who have Morgellons disease report the following signs and symptoms:
•Skin rashes or sores that can cause intense itching
•Crawling sensations on and under the skin, often compared to insects moving, stinging or biting
•Fibers, threads or black stringy material in and on the skin
•Severe fatigue
•Difficulty concentrating
•Short-term memory loss

The intense itching and open sores associated with Morgellons disease can severely interfere with a person's quality of life. [I've read an interview with Joni Mitchell where she said that she'd so suffered from this condition that she couldn't bear the contact of clothes or any cloth on her body, which explained her not going out for whole periods, during which she was certainly seen as having become a recluse!]

Researchers with the Centers for Disease Control note that the signs and symptoms of Morgellons disease are very similar to those of a mental illness involving false beliefs about infestation by parasites (delusional parasitosis).

[However, on p. 2, the Mayo Clinic staff authors write "A possible link between Morgellons and infection with Borrelia spirochetes has been suggested by one group of researchers. Three in the group are affiliated with the Morgellons Disease Foundation." And, since all the reports accept the existence of those "fiber-like filaments emerging from the sores," the exact nature of which researchers have been unable to identify, how can any serious doctor attribute Morgellons to 'psychosis' as a possible explanation for the disease??? Psychosis would not & could not possibly create 'fiber-like filaments' which can be studied, albeit to no avail, under microscopes! Evidence? A study - "Morgellons disease: Analysis of a population with clinically confirmed microscopic subcutaneous fibers of unknown etiology" ]

How widespread is Morgellons disease?

Morgellons disease is a relatively rare condition that most frequently affects middle-aged white women. A cluster of cases occurred in California, which prompted the CDC to conduct a research study to determine if the cases were somehow related. Another study conducted in London reviewed five years of cases, from 2003 to 2008, and found 18 patients with a diagnosis of unexplained dermopathy or Morgellons. Of these, 83 percent were middle-aged women and 69 percent were white.

GreenMedInfo reported in 2013, in an article, Does Ingesting GM Foods Create Disease, Such as Morgellons?, with a number of links to follow up,
"Theories on Morgellons range from nanotechnology in foods, aerosol experimental spraying (persistent contrails), weird pesticides, and now, the link with Agrobacterium Tumefaciens*, these appear to be possible causes of this strange disease."

* "Professor Cummins (Professor Joe Cummins, Professor Emeritus at the University of Western Ontario) noted that Morgellons sufferers tested for Agrobacterium tumefaciens (AT) infestation. Agrobacterium tumefaciens is a bacteria used to create intercellular plant transport in GM (genetically modified food), a technique used for genetic manipulation." "According to biochemistVitaly Citosky, who carried out research on agrobacterium, "Agrobacterium is capable of genetically transforming not only plants, but also other eukaryotic species, including human cells, and is used in the production of some genetically modified organisms." Little information has been revealed concerning the long-term health effects of GMO crops on humans or animals, and even less information can be found regarding research correlating Morgellons with GMO foods."

She is a very ill woman and hasn't been well in a long while. Most recent update I have found is:

A longtime friend of Joni Mitchell has filed a legal petition seeking to be named the singer-songwriter's conservator. Morris is described as Mitchell's friend of more than 44 years in the legal documents.

Whether the folk and jazz singer is conscious remains a matter of some confusion.

In her April 28 petition, Morris says Mitchell is unconscious: "At this time she (Mitchell) remains unconscious and unable to make any responses, and is therefore unable to provide for any of her personal needs."

But on Mitchell's website, a statement posted the same day that says it was approved by Morris says Mitchell is alert.

So I guess take your pick....but thanks Lucy for the additional information.

If anyone wants to post something to Joni either by twitter or FB the link is
We Love You Joni
