Catalonia is set to become the first region in mainland Spain to ban bullfighting following a campaign by animal rights activists. The area's regional parliament today took a major step towards outlawing the tradition

I don't get this nonsense of something being OK that is obviously cruel etc being permitted as tradition.

Kathy Chadwell (354)

GodBless all those brave activists over there.
It's always dangerous taking on a life long tradition like this, even though we look at it in disgust, most over there were adoring to it. My full respect to those who stood strong long enough to educate and change popular opinion. From here it's easy to sign the petitions but for those over there facing the crowds. GodBless them.
Proof AR people should always stick together. Again, GodBless them

Congratulations to the Catalan government for banning bullfighting and to Brigitte Bardot. You go girl for standing up for animals! I hope the rest of Spain will follow suit. It's good to know that "traditions" can be changed or stopped when those "traditions" are so cruel to our animal pals.

Fantastic, great news that gives us hope.

At last a light at the end of the tunnel towards the end of this barbaric cruel act against innocent animals. I'm hoping that this is the beginning of some major changes that need to take place in Spain regarding cruelty and torture toward animals as at this point in time Spain has a very bad reputation which is unfortunate as it reflects on the country as a whole.

HOORAY. its not only the bulls that suffer, its the horses that go in first to taunt the bull and tire it, usually poor old animals with sackcloth padding on their sides. By the third bull, these animals are usually covered with their own blood, many die at the end of the GRAND festival of horror - -

The animals have rights undeniably and I am sure the Spanish people will learn how to live happier lives once bullfights are banned because they will not have the blood of innocent creatures who die in vain for obscure reasons... I am really happy for the decision taken by the catalonians and I praise the animal rights activists whose struggles made such a beautifully encouraging decision possible...

Very good. I see that "The proposal, which will be voted on in April, is expected to be passed as a majority of deputies in the regional parliament are thought to favour a ban."
