"During and after the most recent escalations in Gaza and Southern Israel, our interactions with some Hampshire students, whether over Facebook or in person, took a merciless tone. If our goal is to create a wholesome and worthwhile understanding of all aspects of the conflict, this is not a productive response to have. As Hampshire students, we are encouraged to consider the individual in every situation so as to be aware of why someone may hold the views that they do. Respectively, we have family and friends living in Israel who are continually affected by the conflict. We hope for their safety and therefore support Israelís right to defend itself. Our concerns for the security of our loved ones do not mean that we support every single decision made by the Israeli government.

We are critical of the choices made by the current leadership in regards to settlements and various abuses of power. We are troubled by the current situation that the Palestinians are living in. We sincerely await the day when all sides can willingly acknowledge each others narratives. When we are constantly confronted with harsh opinions that delegitimize our narrative and support violence unto Israel, our immediate reaction is to defend our families and our history as Jews Ė and that means defending Israelís right to exist as a Jewish state."
