Posted it to myspace, facebook & twitters.
What would be more helpful is when people putting these posts in the examiner and such would actually provide links to the dog. What shelter?, a link to that shelter. It's hard to contact dog rescues when you have no idea where the dog is, nor if the dog still needs help. The good rescues are very busy and need those links. Thank you Julie

Baldwin Park Animal Shelter
4275 N Elton St
Baldwin Park, CA 91706
(626) 962-3577

Here is a quote from a person who adopted a pet ... see animal advocate, etc located in quote:

"The reason I gave this shelter 5 stars is because of the AMAZING animal rescue group, Animal Advocates Alliance, that works to save so many wonderful animals from having the bad luck of ending up in a high-kill facility.

This shelter sees everything... puppies of all breeds that are most likely abandoned from local puppy mills, pure-breds that are dropped off by owners facing foreclosures, and of course, the beautiful stray that just needs a chance to warm your heart. I can tell you that no matter what kind of pet you are looking for, you can contact AAA, and they will help you find a great addition to your family... and you are saving a life from being needlessly euthanized due to the lack of space.

I am pleading to everyone out there that might be hesitant to visit the Baldwin Park Shelter... how would you feel or react if placed in a cold kennel, all alone, for maybe several months? You'd probably be scared and stand-offish as well.

The good news is that AAA has bi-monthly adoption events (one in Malibu, one on Beverly at Pan Pacific Park) where these wonderful animals are able to get out of the kennel, get walked by volunteers, and really show how loving they can be... and YOU CAN STOP BY! Check out the website for the next event....

http://animaladvocates.../

(Also on the website, is an updated list of animals inching closer to being put down. Both pictures and videos of the pets are included under the "Adopt Now" tab.)

Last but not least, keep in mind where your money goes when you purchase your next pet... are you promoting puppy mills when you go to a pet store? As a non-profit corporation, AAA relies solely on donations from private donors, in-kind donations from local businesses, and the support of its dedicated volunteers. Also, AAA engages in legal advocacy to support animal welfare legislation and facilitate the aggressive prosecution of perpetrators of animal abuse under anti-cruelty statutes. Ultimately, when you adopt a pet from AAA, you not only save one life, but hopefully many others."

I'm relieved to hear that the puppy dog has found a home. Baldwin Park is in Los Angeles county and, as in all of southern California, is constantly bombarded with abandoned animals. Their chances of ever finding a home is very poor. Most shelters are not able to keep a dog or cat more than a few days. If the animal is brought in by the owner, often they only have until the close of that business day.

Oh my stars! I do so hope that it is true that this poor soul has been adopted by loving, caring, responsible people! It is now 1st September, 16.00 British time (I live in southeast England), and there isn't a thing I can do to help.

I must say, I do think that many US animal shelters are far too swift in implementing euthanasia option.

I hope his new owners give him a wonderful home. No animal should have to suffer this kind of treatment. We have laws in this country against people who go around abusing animals. And I cannot imagine a shelter putting an animal this young to death, especially after what he went through. Thanks for posting this, Laura!

Ok, I'm sorry, but has no one noticted EUTHANASIA? This is when you kill someone because they're in too much pain... which this puppy obviously is. Surely then, we don't want to save this puppy because he'll be in pain for the rest of his life? yes I would rather he lived but I would rather he be dead then live in pain....

What a brutal and harsh world for this poor innocent puppy!!! I posted this on all my dog rescue site on Yahoo groups---Also I encourage anyone who cares about animals to check out Yahoo Groups under dog or animal rescue and you can put free postings to rescues for animals that you hear about in need. You can hit hundreds and some have thousands of members per group.

Rebecca T (1)

Izzy: Euthanasia is not reserved solely for those experiencing chronic pain - it happens on a regular basis in shelters that are overflowing due to human greed, apathy and ignorance. As far as this pup is concerned, it seems the most damage has been done to his paws, which, given the proper attention and time to heal, will do just that. Any human who had undergone such an ordeal would receive aggressive medical treatment, and this innocent dog surely deserves the same.

Thank you, thank you to the kind person or persons who adopted this poor baby.A great ending to a horrible beginning. I called myself and found the dog has been adopted. Thank u God but I am disgusted with the sicko or sickos who did this. Anyone who saw this needs to call the authorities to report the creeps because they must be punished. Who will they hurt next a child or an older person???Sickos prey on innocent victims so they must be caught and punished.

After receiving this notice yesterday, I sent off 10 emails to all the rescue organizations in Los Angeles area. I am so glad that this poor poor puppy has a new home! He didn't have a chance of being adopted because he was in the back the whole time. The Shelter's should adjust their adoptable times according to when the puppy or dog is actually available for the public to see them! The fact that he had no chance of being adopted and then put to sleep is almost as bad as the heinous crime already committed against him. The shelters need to GET WITH THE PROGRAM. So thankful he is going to be ok, and if anyone wants to contribute to his medical fund, they should research the correct new owners and go from there. Thanks Care2 for helping out again! LOOOOOVE HAPPY ENDINGS!!!!

It lifts the heart to hear a happy ending to a story. Thank you Dianne Lynn Elko for your following up on this and correcting misinformation by one of the commentators. It is unbelievable that this animal was dragged intentionally, and if so has the perpetrator been arrested? We cannot have people getting away with abuse as it sets a terrible example for sick minds. There are many nice prayers for this pup and I bet he will have a happy ever after.

After reading the article and having more time to reflect, I recall that a couple months ago there was a black dog tied to the undercarriage of a red truck in the parking lot at the grocery store. No one was in the truck. It was a very hot day, and the parking lot was black top although the dog was on the side shaded by the truck. The dog had not water. I called 911 and asked for animal control since I had not idea how long the dog had been there or would be there, or if the owner would remember the dog was tied to the truck when "he" (more than likely) came back and the dog would be dragged. I should have stayed and watch to see when the owner came out or the police came out but I was afraid of what the owner would do if he learned I called animal control. I left it in God's hands, maybe abrogating my instinct to stay near. The truck and dog was gone when I came out so I am not sure what happened. Next time I will stay and watch, from a little distance to see if the police got there before the owner did. I could see how this puppy might have been dragged without the owner knowing? Learned a lesson just reading this article.

it is a complete misunderstanding. jeffrey is well known on care2 as a vegan activist. i think he may have gotten the same email i got from the network of rescues in l.a. sasha has taken the dog and it's being treated in that malibu hospital, but it is unclear to me whether or not she is intending to keep it or adopt it out.

I will not argue with anyone on here about this issue,i also am very well known here at care 2.I know for a fact that the puppy has been adopted out and anyone with any doubts can just pick up the phone and call,I am not the one here asking for money,I will one more time post the phone # as 1-626-962-3577 and his I.D. # is A417-6612.I can in good conscious know that I have spoken with the people that adopted the puppy out,and I know that I can go to sleep knowing that I am not trying to make money off of an abused puppy.I will not respond again, people can put there ears to the phone and find out yourself--or just be in the dark about it--it really is just that simple. The place is called Animal Control and it is in Baldwin Park,California 1-626-962-3577 and I.D.#A-417-6612,he is a black lab puppy.
Who is it that is asking for money here??Me or Jeffery???

ok. i just got this one minute ago from sasha:

Hi,
I did not adopt the dog and do not intend to keep him - I rescued him from the shelter but as I am a independent rescuer I had to "adopt" him from the shelter to get him out of there.
He has a LONG road to recovery. Just spoke with the vet that is treating Trooper. He said the Trooper nearly lost his entire foot pad and has 30 stitches in his knees. He also said the shelter did a great job taking care of him and they are growing back nicely. It is going to be a long road to recovery. He needs to stay in the hospital for at least the next 2 weeks so they can do daily bandage changes. And he will need bandage changes, antibiotics and pains meds for the next two months.

His prognosis for a full recovery is excellent and the doctor feels with the proper care - Trooper will be good as new. However, he will not be ready for a forever home for AT LEAST two more weeks.
Kindly touch base with me then so we can discuss this further.
Thanks.

And yes... I started the chipin... I expect his medical care to exceed $2000 for the next two months so if you could kindly continue to share the chipin it would be appreciated.
Thank you all for caring about this baby!!

I'd like to take a moment out to explain the difference between adopted, & pulled.
Adopted means a family or person came in and adopted the puppy, pulled means a rescue came in and pulled the dog to their rescue so the dog wouldn't be put down. So this baby may not have a forever home yet but he is SAFE. I learned this working with rescues on myspace. It's just a misunderstanding and both parties in the above comments are right:) I think some feelings got hurt here & I hate to see good people get hurt. Thank you Dianne Lynn Elko & Jeffrey for caring about this poor soul.

I am so relieved that this dear little puppy is in safe hands & will hopefully be adopted permanently as soon as he is well enough. I posted the story to my Facebook Wall, cross posted to other Animal Welfare Sites & asked all my Friends & Email Contacts to Share & Cross Post to everyone they know. I was hoping & praying that it was not too late for this dear little dog. My heart breaks everyime I read stories of animal abuse, cruelty & slaughter. I am so angry & it makes my blood boil when I think about the monster(s) who did this to a defenceless puppy. They should receive the maximum punishment possible & be locked away for a very long time. I am hoping & praying that this little sweetheart will find his Forever Loving Home. XXXXXX

Every animal deserves to live & have a chance at life! What this little guy got was unfair/unjust & what they wanted to do after he suffered all of this is unjustitified! Thank you to everyone for caring & all you have done, your time, your comments & donations for this little guy! So pleased to hear that he is safe & recovering! And surely God will see that a loving forever home will be found for this angel. I have made a donation for his medical expenses. Thanks for posting Julie.

i really want to make sure this dog gets as much help as possible. the cost will likely be $2000 and she's only raised $1000 or so. i called the malibu coast animal hospital. the 8 month old lab dragged behind a car is now called trooper. you can mail a check straight to the vet or call with a credit card. the account number is 26296. make check payable to: MCAH and send to: Malibu Coast Animal Hospital 23431 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265 or call: 310-317-4560

The vet is:

THANK YOU SO MUCH for caring about this sweet baby. He is goign to lead a loved life from this day on.

His Story:
He was found on the side of Highway 60 here in SoCal on August 21. He had been dragged behind a car - either on purpose of by accident we will never know. Luckily his leash broke in time and he survived The pads on his paws were nearly gone and he has 30 stitches on both of his knees.
I found out about him on Sunday from a shelter employee - she wanted me to save him because she knew his time was up. The shelter took excellent care of him, changed his bandages every day and gave his knees over 30 stitches and kept him on the appropriate pain meds. However, Baldwin Park has over 400 dogs at this time and simply did not have room to keep him any longer - he had been there for 10 days which is an eternity at a high kill shelter. The vet tech on staff said his pads will likely regenerate and that he is a "very SWEET dog" - just a baby - probably 8 months or so.
No rescue stepped up in time so I had no choice put to pull him as a private party. I drove to the shelter Tuesday and delivered him to the vet where he will stay for at leas two weeks to be evaluated and to recover.
he is such a sweet boy and I feel so lucky to have been able to help save him. I have received dozens of offers for forever homes from around the country - but rest assured - this boy is only going to end up in the most wonderful, loving of homes. He will NEVER be let down by humans again.

this is the reply---
No they did not lie to you. I am a private party and NOT a rescue and therefore I had to adopt him in order to get him out of the shelter. When they look in their computer all they see is 'adopted' htey dont know the whole story - they have four hundred dogs there at any given time and cannot keep track of exactly where each one goes.
that being said, he is in good hands now and i will start looking for a forever home for him once he has recovered. if you would like to make a donation for his care taht would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for caring.

Dianne, I hope I can allay you're suspicions and/or confusion surrounding this story once and for all.

Yes, you were given correct information by the Baldwin Park shelter. The dog referred to in the Examiner news story linked in Julie's post here, #A4176612, was adopted. I contacted the person referred to in the story, who was publicizing the urgency, Sasha Abelson. She explained that she ended up "adopting" the dog herself—to save him from being euthanized. She also explained she will not be able to keep the dog as she has her hands full with other rescued dogs already—one of them, also from Baldwin Park.

WHEN she adopted him, she named him TROOPER and took him immediately to the Malibu Coast Animal Hospital (310-317-4560) to continue his treatment and recovery. She also started the ChipIn, referred to in the Examiner story as well, to hopefully help cover the cost of the dog's Vet bill.

I simply re-published the ChipIn link, in one of my comments above, to draw quicker attention to how people could help if they wished. Sasha explained that people could also donate to the hospital, in Trooper's name, by calling the hospital directly. It is expected the dog will be recovering for at least 2 months.

Since, Sasha will not be able to keep the dog, she will definitely be needing our assistance to locate a SUITABLE adoptive home for Trooper when the time comes!

The gallant act Sasha has undertaken is, in fact, known in rescue circles as "pulling". I think your misunderstanding arose because "legally", the shelter has "adopted" the dog to a specific new "owner". The fact that the new owner's purpose was only to save the dog from euthanasia and to "foster" him for re-adoption is secondary to the initial "adoption".

I sincerely hope this clarifies the issue. A hopefully, this will also acquaint you with my utmost good intentions.

I will close my comments here as I always try to do with this simple reminder:

In order for us to respect animals, we MUST acknowledge our moral obligation to stop eating them, wearing them, or using them in any other way. And the easiest way to show ALL animals respect is by going Vegan.

For more information read, view, and listen to the works of Professor Gary L. Francione at http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/

Thank you.

So there we have it and i have flagged Jeffery's pay pal/chip in as inappropriate, and care 2 has removed it,so it is all said and done now, back to the 2 most important things1)Trooper(not liberty or lenardo) is very safe and being cared for and we all know where the money can be sent for the puppy to be cared for.I do not know about pay pal or chip ins,but if i had donated that way,i would be sure the money went to trooper or the shelter and not Jeffery.

the chipin comes straight out of the article, and sasha already confirmed it is hers. why do you continue to disparage jeffrey, when you yourself did not like people questioning you? i just don't understand your aggression at all. i, too, am skeptical by nature (i'm the one who put two and two together to stop vanessa a couple of weeks ago), but penny's article contained the dog's i.d., the chipin, and sasha's name.

Well said Catherine. I tried to send you a star but Care2 won't let me.
All Jeffrey did was POST THE LINK to Trooper's "Chip In" page. SASHA started the "Chip In" page as ONE way for people to make donations for Trooper's care.

If someone was trying to steal money from an animal in need I would be the FIRST one to STOP it.

I want to thank Jeffrey for taking the time to post the "Chip In" page info; it helped me in getting the latest info out about Trooper.

According to the website, this pup has found a new forever home which is truly a miracle considering the short time available. For everyone that blames the shelter, you must remember that they receive thousands of animals each year and probably try to distance themselves so they don't become attached to all the animals. If you're going to blame the shelter, you must also blame all of the heartless people that adopt animals then abandon, mistreat, or abuse them after the newness has worn off. We wouldn't have over population at shelters if people would breed responsibly and adopt responsibly.

What kind of people bring up a child that turns into such a disgusting humanbeing.

Great news for the beautiful little dog. What wonderful people there are in the world.

Good news that this little guy has been adopted! Would open a bottle of champagne (if I drank the stuff!) I would happily adopt him but unfortunately I live in Spain and there are many animals here that need help too! Already have 2 ex-shelter dogs and 4 abandoned cats. At least there doesn't seem to be deliberate cruelty to animals in this village. More cases of neglect I suspect and most of those from visitors who abandon their "pets" here.
