Left, Right and Center Parties in German Parliament Unite to Oppose ‘Antisemitic’ BDS Campaign

A coalition of parties from the center, right and left in Germany will come together on Friday to back a parliamentary motion condemning the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign that seeks to cut all commercial, political and cultural ties with the State of Israel throughout the international community.

The non-binding motion, titled, “Resist the BDS Movement — Fighting Antisemitism,” is the joint initiative of the social democratic SPD Party and Green Party from the left, the governing CDU Party and the FDP Party from the center, and the conservative CSU Party from the right, in the country’s federal parliament, the Bundestag.
At the heart of the text is the contention that the Bundestag opposes the BDS movement — which it defines as “antisemitic” — for the same historical and moral reasons that the legislative body is opposed to other forms of antisemitism.

In practical terms, the motion would prevent “organizations which express themselves in an antisemitic manner, or question the right of Israel to exist” from using “premises and facilities under Bundestag administration.”

It also urges the federal government to oppose BDS with equal resolve, specifying that no organizations advocating Israel’s elimination or a boycott of Israel should be eligible for state funding.

The German news outlet Der Tagesspiegel reported on Thursday that the impetus for the joint motion came from two FDP parliamentarians, Bijan Djir-Sarai and Frank Müller-Rosentritt.

“This is not about the profiles of individual political parties,” Müller-Rosentritt told the newspaper. “It was important to achieve an agreement across the factions.”

Two parties are, however, excluded from the motion’s sponsors — the communist-leaning Left Party and the controversial far-right AfD party, whose representatives have made several racist and antisemitic comments in public in recent years, and which is formally shunned by both the German Jewish community and the Israeli Embassy in Berlin.

Eva Högl of the left-wing SPD Party said told the same news outlet that the motion reflected a consensus among Germany’s democratic parties that antisemitism must be firmly opposed.

“Antisemitic attitudes must have no place in Germany,” Högl stated. “For years, the BDS movement has been calling for a boycott of Israel in Germany and around the world, using antisemitic methods.”

Friday’s motion comes amidst a flurry of political activity against BDS efforts in Germany, as part of an overall pushback against rising antisemitism.

During the last month, Bundestag members and a leading regional commissioner coordinating official efforts to counter antisemitism have demanded that Germany’s GLS Bank — the country’s most long-established ethically investment bank — close the account of a pro-BDS group calling itself “Jewish Voice.” Earlier this week, one of Germany’s largest political youth movements, ver.di Jugend, disavowed the BDS campaign at its annual conference, declaring that it condemned BDS advocacy in “political, cultural, economic and scientific context[s].”

BDS is not, repeat, NOT, repeat,NOT NOT NOT anti-Jewish! It opposes Israel's policies of apartheid and ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories. That is all. Only paranoid fools hear or see "BDS" and think of swastikas.

Freya - and so many others, including me - know, agree and repeat what Freya voiced in her comment, above.

It is the rapacious, and deliberate old and well worn tactic to attempt to slur, smear and delegitimize those who speak up, against Israel human rights violations and crimes against Palestinians and humanity, and breaches and violations of International Law, that spurs some, to try and pull the wool over the eyes of the public, deceive the world at large, and Americans, in particular ... who pay taxes that the Israel Lobby has been plundering to the tone of hundreds of Billions for over seven decades.. state by state, and using Congress to continue to do so -- at the constant expense of U.S. taxpayers, American families and society, to build and maintain a military to enforce human rights violations and crimes, perpetually, day by day, against Palestinians and their families, plunder their farms, schools and holy sites, demolish them or force Palestinian citizens and rightful owners off their lands, while allowing illegal settlements to continue, endorsing settler violent and fatal attacks against Palestinians and their children, and letting the perpetrators to go free.

during the rise of the Nazi party, and when it was in power, it spread propaganda, controlled the media, etc., as much as possible, while the messages sent were to undermine, tyrannize, and manipulate the German people - essentially, deceive, and use fear and other tactics to conceal and hide ugly realities and truths - which needed to be covered up, for the Nazi party to continue to stay in power, robbing people of homes and more, forcing people out, and separating families, while thousands from all over the world spent over 4 years, sending their loved ones to fight them and free Europe from tyranny and military dictatorship.

Indeed, it is time, that some 'Never Forget"!!
What has been done to Palestine and Palestinians, and continues, this day, and every other, is due to oppression, deception and hasbara -- i.e. targeted and unrelenting manipulation and propaganda aimed at hiding the atrocious actions of Israeli governments since it's inception, in 1948, since, and events prior to the establishment of the state of Israel.

No amount of lies will rewrite facts -- no amount of crying wolf will make people continue to swallow victim playing game that is endless...
It is evident, who spreads lies, and who controls media, how, and why.
It happened before, it is not new... every time, it is to control the message, and obtain resources, to exploit and remove people .... by demonizing them, to try and justify or conceal the truth.
Actions speak louder than words.
Never forget!

Which peoples, countries and economies is BDS currently targeting by its founding orgazation?
Israel and ............. ???
Israel can't be the only tyrannical, oppressive, diabolical, scheming, apartheid, despotic, murderous racist, evil etc country in the world which needs to be punished by BDS !!!

You are conveniently forgetting that Israel is the ONLY democracy in the middle east.

If you are a BDS supporter don't be a hyppocrite, follow what you advocate.. boycott every item, in every sphere of your life, which originates in Israel.. Please!
PS: A good place to start would be tossing out your laptop/pc hardware

Only an ignorant, biased fool would see/hear the word "Israel" and immediately think, apply BDS!!

Double standards all the way.. wrong can never be right, irrespective of circumstances.
Its called "the Rule of Law"...
