How terrible, an 8.9 earthquake happened under the sea near the east coast of Japan. Tsunamis could extened all the way across the Pacific. All of this is normal activity around the Pacific Ring of Fire. I hope there are no deaths in this 7 foot wave but there will be property loss.

Hawaii and all of the US west coast is preparing for possible Tsunami's from the huge earthquake in Japan. Let's hope there is nothing but property damage.

I've heard too about the National Guard being called to assist in NJ. NY has flood warnings too. Maybe the anti-ecology politicians will begin to take note and see that money spent on stopping Greenhouse gases is money well spent!

Oooh, I've been watching as the waves literally ate up the coastal towns in Japan... so much damage! Just hope the people were able to get out in time. I hope Hawaii and California are prepared for the worst... I'd rather they be safe, than sorry. I have a cousin who lives in the San Diego area, but she's up on higher ground... her children own homes in the valley. Will be trying to keep in touch with her, too, to make sure they're safe.

Not only can the energy from powerful waves be dissipated by fashioning breakwaters with new designs to funnel them harmlessly, but they can be made to pass through hydroelectric turbines, underwater propellers, pressure plates and the like.

So too can lava usually be channeled harmlessly away from cities and property in hawaii as simply as building a storm drain for water.

Thanks Carrie. I have family that live in Hawaii but most of them are in the inland areas of different islands. I'm sure Hawaii will be fine since they're used to things like this and are very well prepared.

I've been watching this unfold all day. Terrible! I really feel for the people of Japan right now. How scary this must be to be caught up in. The next few hours will tell regarding other countries in the Pacific area. It would appear that Hawaii has had relatively small waves which is good.

People need to heed warnings, The man who is missing and presumed dead, was in the wrong place.

I do hope that everyone I know is safe, and please let me know about anything I can do for you. Even now I'm listening to one of your explenations about the nuclear plant and what can cause a meltdown. I hope Australia will send people to help as well. I haven't heard anything yet.
