"Sometimes I allow myself to get drawn into political debates when I know I should probably just shut up. Well, a couple of great OS articles appeared recently by old new lefty and Rick Lucke that I commented on and rated, and damn it if those comments didn't become so long that I decided to take a page from another of my favs, Tom Cordle, and post my comments on my own blog.

Plus, I love the term, "knuckle draggers" that old new lefty has been using to describe the right-wing. I would love to see that term continued to be used by more folks. I've been using the term "paleopaths" to describe them since the older and paleolithic parts of the human brain are still vulnerable to the kind of priming cues the Republicans specialize in. So, no wonder those without adequate self-regulatory defenses and/or who resonate with sociopathic domination agendas respond accordingly. We need more folks using this type of terminology. In fact, I was so thrilled when ex-Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson called the Republicans "Knuckle dragging Neanderthals" that I wrote an article about it in the Huffington Post.

And here's link to great article that I also resonate with, fits in nicely with my current post and sums up a good part of the Republican narrative:
"The Rotten Heart of White Conservatism: The Nonsense Argument That Is White People Are Oppressed in the Age of Obama"
http://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2011/03/09/the-rotten-heart-of-white-conservatism-the-nonsense-argument-that-is-white-people-are-oppressed-in-the-age-of-obama/

So, here are my comments in order separately below. I ask forgiveness in advance for any undeserved liberties I have taken for posting my comments (including my attempt at satire in my comment on Rick's article). Here Goes:

Comment on old new lefty's:
Dear David Axelrod

Thanks to the "Citizens United" decision, courtesy of the Roberts Supreme Court (Brought to you by the bringer of the Iraq war, George W. Bush, who in turn was brought to us by the 97,000 people in Florida who voted for Nader in 2000), the Chamber of Commerce can put anonymous unlimited rounds in the chamber aimed at us 24/7 by the fact-free fundaMENTALists at Fox, like O'Reilly, to stir up their knuckle dragging, gun toting legions, not with "Win the future" abstractions, but with nonstop, visceral chants of, "Tiller the Killer" like they did to get "Christian Soldier," Scott Roeder to put a few of those rounds in Dr. George Tiller, the abortion provider, shot dead by Roeder as he prayed in Church.

We had better do everything we can to "Win the future" in 2012, or sociopaths like Roeder will be having coffee with the RepubliKlan President in the Oval Office of the White House.

Elections have consequences. So do emotions. In my view, everything we can do to emotionally prepare ourselves and others to make sure this doesn't happen we need to do.

Looks like, finally, some training is happening to get "progressives" and "liberals" ready to do battle with right-wing predators on the media front, where framing, slogans, memes, sound bites, emotions, etc. are primary. Facts, though necessary, are by no means sufficient. The battle is for shelf space in the subconscious minds of the 20% to 30% of the electorate that could be swayed in either direction. Because there's no corresponding bottom-up movement on the Left like the Tea Party on the Right, Obama's power (like that of any other President) is limited to constraints imposed by the "powers that be" (who also bankroll the Tea Party mobs). Since Republicans are always in sync with these powers, they have far more degrees of freedom than Dems when they control the White House. Just think of the damage they could do if they get back all Three branches of Government, this time with the backing of the gun happy Tea Party mobs and right-wing extremists and militias, which the Justice Department's 2009 report said was the Country's biggest internal terror threat. Who do you think that threat is aimed at?

My current slogan is: "Thriving Despite the Right." Anyway, here's a couple of recent articles about the training of progressive pundits and media warriors. The Left in general could use some of this training as we take on the "knuckle draggers" or "paleopaths" as I like to call them:

Reply to Rick Lucke's
WISCONSIN vs. OBAMA'S COMPROMISE

http://open.salon.com/blog/rick_lucke/2011/03/04/wisconsin_vs_obamas_compromise_2 Wow Rick. You make a strong case that should send shutters up and down the spine of the Secret Service. Clearly, a man that simultaneously can appear as a Communist Marxist Socialist Muslim Soft On Terrorist Foreign Born Fascist Traitor to his Race Sell out to his people Backstabber of the Union Movement and Ordinary People Wall Street Big Corporation Monkey Bush Cheney Clone War Mongering Compromiser Orwellian ReWriter of History in the Name of Capital - clearly could only be the Antichrist - and I think we all know what the standing orders are regarding anyone who fits this definition of pure evil.

I don't think it's a question of the lesser of two evils. This Manchurian man, according to the above Right/Left description of him, is the ONLY evil and must be stopped before it's to late. Clearly, the ones who have the clearest shot at it are those who have been most committed to this cause - the RepubliKlan/Tea Party. According to Greg Palast and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. , all of the electronic and bureacratic means were in place to steal the election the last time and seal Rove's " permanent Republican majority," (i.e., "complete corporate rule"), but damn it if all those N-words didn't come out to vote for one of their own, plus all those damn naieve young people., etc.

I don't think it makes much sense to compete with the knuckle draggers in trying to take him out. They've got unlimited resources. Think about it. They've got the corporate sector, which has assets in the multiple tens of trillions. They also got 1500 radio station, Fox news, millions of boots on the ground guns in hand fanatical Christian activists and militia members, plus all of their blogosphere mobsters midnight meth heads and organized swarms funded by the Koch Brothers and Rove who can and do shut down switchboards and internet servers etc. of media outlets, companies, schools, etc. if they don't like what they see or hear. What do we have? The unions with their dwindling billions in assets and shrinking membership, Pacifica Radio, and some blogs. Do the math. A trillion is 1000 times a billion.

Naw. I say let them take all Three branches of Government. Then we can quietly and under the radar go about the business of creating our own bottom-up movement like the Tea Party to give our representatives the backbone to go up against the trillionaires and their weaponized mobs, while Amy Goodman and Rachel Maddow mobilize the masses on our side. And the great thing is, we don't have to do anything except join in the chorus of denunciation of the Dems and Obama between now and 2012.

Now THAT sounds like a plan :)"

The "knuckle-dragging" neanderthals had better watch out. The meek and mild democrats are waking up to their shenanigans.

Yvonne, I have the same problem. I can't think of any living creature to equate them to, because I like sloths/apes/monkeys/snakes/hyenas/bottom feeding fish/insects/amoeba/fungus/virus and the plague better than these people.

Those who care about this Country, those who are compassionate about others and their suffering, those who have finally had the light bulb turned on as to what is happening better start really paying attention to who is up for election. Then by golly hold their feet to the fire and make them adhere to what they said.

One thing about these Tea Party types....is they said they were going to do this or that and by golly they are doing this or that. I think it has shocked the crap out of a lot of people that someone is finally doing what they said they would before they got elected. Now we just need to get the ruthless out of the way and have others who will do as they say but not tear the throats out of the people doing it.

Lefties better also get some *alls....you know, stand up and fight for the people instead of rolling over all the time. These people, you give an inch they take a mile, they don't want compromise, they want it all, backed up by the thirsting Big Business. If the masses stick someone in the ring they best fight and we best support them too, don't let them hang to dry alone.

I would not trust too much in Democrats either. There are perhaps more "good" Dems than "not entirely evil" Republicans, but both parties have plenty of incentive to take the money and keep the status quo.

Sorry, Carrie, but that stale old left-right Dem-Rep lib-cons thing (and lying-by-omission media and academia thing) has been seen through already. Fool me twice, shame on me...

Hate ("knuckle-draggers") can be fun, but two wings/heads of the same Constitution-eating monster......... is about treason, and the selling out of We The People, by Dems and Reps alike! The false belief that 1 is really 2 diverts/distracts attention, and divides/conquers We The People, who simply must somehow learn to rise above it (which means learning to not take sides in it -- and since it's just a huge lie, so that should be easy; just pay attention to the man behind the curtain)...

Carrie has exactly 1187 words in her body count. She could have just chosen to reduce it to the 19 used in her opening remark, and be done with it. They were: "Sometimes I allow myself to get drawn into political debates when I know I should probably just shut up."

~ Alice would also recommend Carrie take her own advise the next time she finds herself confronted. It would save her from future embarrassment.

If Democrats take back the congress and hold on to the administration, which they should considering all the political fuel that the Republicans are giving them, as well as following through on getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan permanently before 2012 which I'm sure won't happen, Then we can push for real progressive reform and change to put this country back in the hands of the people. I'm sure though that here in the months leading up to the election things will get worse, and then there will be another great catastrophe and that will be used to break this country and shift abroad, probably to China. Either way you can enjoy the great game of politics and continue to feed the fire by working for those corporate kings or you can actually do something about it and walk away.

I won't hold my breath waiting for anything resembling progress from the two party system. More than ever, the United States needs a REAL Socialist Party. Despite the knee-jerk, hysterical exclamations of the teabaggers and others from the Republican lunatic fringe, the Democratic Party is just as much a corporate owned and operated party as the Republicans. Likewise, the Dems also favor the kind of rabid free market capitalism that has brought this nation to the economic disaster from which it is struggling to escape. Meanwhile, no one gives a damn about American workers or American families. Where is our bailout, anybody?

Why do you not see that corruption is rampant in both parties? I know as a Tea Party Member and someone looking from the outside into America I can see it clear as day. Take the sunglasses off folks. Real change will not come with the status quo or the stupid. It will not come with those of you who think mud slinging and name calling is the way to win a fight.

"I will stay true to the Democrats until I see a better alternative."
You can't see something you're blind to Carrie. You repeatedly claim to stick with the democrats, but you don't have a clue where the democrats are. You can't stay true to the DNC as long as you promoting progressive party socialist ideals. Face it, you're a socialist hiding behind democrats to further the progressive movement. The Democrats will take back their party eventually and kick all progressives out of the DNC.
Alexandra, my friends don't need "persuading". They are intelligent enough on their own to make a decision.

Typical progressive crap used to fool the non informed. Progressives are anything but progressive! There hasn't been one successful society who tried to run under the progressive party ideas. Each have failed for one big reason, it does not work. Don't forget people, "Democrats" are not members of the progressive party, the people who have hijacked an entire political party under the guise of caring for people by shoving socialism unto others. That's why so many Democrats have joined the TEA Party Patriots, people from all parties, all or no religion, all races, all walks of life, the big threat to progressives, which is why they have resorted to name calling and trying to embarrass those who would be a part of them. They are people who don't buy into the crap posted here because they do actual research into problems and politicians. Then they look for the right politicians needed for the answers to the problems. Right now, the problems are corruption in govt and progressives who would have us all take steps backward, not forward. The United States is not and will not become a socialist country. That's what true Democrats and Republicans want to assure. You want to live as a socialist? Move to a socialist country because 'we the people' are not going to give up ours, no matter how hard you people try and destroy it.
GREEN STARS to CAM V, Alice L, Dave Colorado!! Well said, each of you!

I regard to the last 3 posts, what type of government do you want? I definitely don't want where the TEAnutz & pseudo-Christian fascists are heading. Neither pure socialism nor pure capitalism are good. What is need is capitalism for tangible products and socialism for services.

Our founders did not live in this century! I have no intention of going back! There has to be an answer, and I believe it lies within the Democrat party. Nothing we are seeing is perfect, but the Dems are much closer to the correct solution. My last post on this thread!

Micheal A, you claim no country has ever tried progressive (socialism) ideas and succeeded. I call Bull Shit! Take a look at Norway, Canada before Mulroney the crook, Sweeden, France, Germany and many more. You say progressives resort to name calling because they can't deny the facts, I find that totally ironic. You are the one denying facts. You think the Koch brothers are going to save the nation? That's the epitome of denial.

Doug C (51)

Socialism means co-operation and helping out the disadvantaged, it means those at the top need give a little more than those in the middle and on the bottom. It does not mean that those on the top can not achieve all the riches hard work merits. It does mean that those who have been dealt a cruel blow either by stupidity on their part or through no fault of their own do not have to suffer unduly. What is wrong with that. Sounds like Jesus talk to me.

Nancy L (141)

You are wrong Doug:

Definition of SOCIALISM
1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
See socialism defined for English-language learners »
Examples of SOCIALISM
She is quite right, for example, to stress that Thatcher's crusade against socialism was not merely about economic efficiency and prosperity but that above all, “it was that socialism itself—in all its incarnations, wherever and however it was applied—was morally corrupting.” —Stephen Pollard, New York Times Book Review, 18 Jan. 2009
Lenin's great genius, of course, was for ideology, which was redefined all too often to support the tactical requirements of the moment. But owing to his fanatical conviction of his own righteousness, especially where socialism was concerned, and also to the Promethean force of his will, his pronouncements were enshrined by his followers as universal truths. —Michael Scammell, New Republic, 20 Dec. 1999
