We have brought this on ourselves with gross over-use of the antibiotics available. Wise up people and stop demanding antibiotics for things that don't respond to it anyway (like viruses) , and don't buy the antibacterial soap for everyday use in your home.

Tom Frieden, said: “If we’re not careful, the medicine chest will be empty when we go there to look for a life-saving antibiotic. Without urgent action now, more patients will be thrust back to a time before we had effective drugs.” In my opinion a lot Doctors have become pill pushers.Thank you for this post Carrie.

. . . and a great big *HA!* to all my coworkers who used to spend so much time wiping everything off with those sterile wipes.

And why are they drug resistant? Because people are plied with them and every time one doesn't work they are given a stronger one. The diseases doctors are trying to fight are stronger and smarter it seems than the doctors and their patients. Will they never learn? You'll find no drugs in no drugs in my bathroom cabinet, just a variety of homeopathic remedies, some calendula, and a few more natural things.

I agree Dianne. I worked with someone like that as well. It is stupid and obsessive.

I got c. diff as a result of being prescribed post-op clindamycin for some dental work. I ended up in the hospital. That was 2 years ago: it completely wiped out all the good bacteria in my system and I'm still dealing with the after effects. I wouldn't wish it on anyone - please be very careful and read up on any antibiotic you are given before taking it. Strong ones like clindamycin, cipro, etc. may not produce any side effects while you are taking them - complications may start after only a single dose but may not manifest until days, weeks or even months after you finish taking them. With me, I was fine until 10 days after I completed the full course of the drug and then had to be rushed to the ER. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Docs have been over-prescribing antibiotics for years, it's no surprise that this has happened. If you get a sore throat or a cold, DON'T rush off to the doc and ask for them, use your brains.
