We Could Never Give Up The Internet, But We Wouldn't Mind Ditching Facebook

Despite the unflattering portrait of a stressed-out, Internet-addled American, there's no denying this: We really, truly love the web. But there are some parts, like social media, that we could live without.

Barb Knight, you apparantly have a tough control on what your family posts. You are in the minority if you do.This site has led to cyber bulling, humiliation to the point where children across the country have committed suicide. A 15 year old killed himself 2 weeks ago in Linden NJ for being humiliated on Facebook.

I am not on FB and have no desire whatsoever to do so, I prefer to keep in touch with family and friends in person face to face or on the phone. I do not feel the need for drama and tell everyone my every move for the day. I also still have a landline phone and will always have one, I do not have a cell phone and will not get one. I cannot talk on a cell phone or within 15-35 seconds I get a sharp electrical shock go from my hand holding the phone up in to my arm and in to my ear so no I will never have a mobile phone either.

I have family on FB also, but I'm not and I know many are becoming very disenchanted with what goes on there.

FB really isn't all that good anymore and it has not been for quite sometime nowadays. Remember, once you sign up on FB, you can never delete your account.

11 Reasons You Should Quit Facebook In 2014

""Facebook is so annoying." How many times have you heard that sentiment this past year? We bet a lot, because more and more people seem to be getting tired of the social media platform, especially young people."

The lat part of the PEW report says it all:

"Other researchers have measured Americans' feelings about social networks, and they're getting uglier and uglier. Weighed down by privacy concerns and invasive ads, a Harris Interactive poll from last year ranked Facebook No. 42 among the 60 top U.S. corporations by reputation, below Walmart and AT&T."

"If Americans chose to disconnect from the world's largest social network, their experience online would of course be different. But for the most part, we seem to be OK with the idea of an Internet without it."

Most of the people in C2 feel very negatively about Wal-Mart and here is PEW report saying that the ranking of FB is below Wal-Mart.

Glad I never joined FB.

ty, Carrie.

Thanks Carrie, I'm not of the FB generation, I'm not on it and never understood it's allure. I have however been on the internet and e-mail ever since it was a tiny flat text service between universities and couldn't do without it. You can reach the whole world on e-mail too, you know, including your family. As long as the big players are not out-buying each other and everything becomes one big over-commercialized and ad-riddled service, I'll keep on using the internet.

When our youngest son was in Iraq, both Barry and I joined FB because that was the easiest way for Adam to stay in touch with the entire family. Once he came home I decided to close my FB account. It was like trying to leave the Mafia! It literally took me years! I will never join again!

I really don't have time for FB but a lot of people enjoy it, dislike it, nothing new when it comes to social media.

"This site has led to cyber bulling, humiliation to the point where children across the country have committed suicide."

True, Allan Yorkowitz, but before the internet existed, students at school were subjected to nasty bullying which in some cases resulted in suicide. With Facebook and other modern media, the audience just happens to be a lot wider and the opportunity for bullying more extensive. If Facebook shuts down, those that bully will simply move onto somewhere else.

I am on FB, but I don't hang on there. Although all of my husband's family is on there and that is how he stays in touch with them, I am on there mainly for petitions and causes and networking the same. I don't follow the family antics and they don't follow me (because of all the petitions I put up there and the causes). But, as far as me personally, I could close it in a heartbeat. I rally don't like all the crap that is on there and is done to people. I stay away from that.

Noted. I have elder family members as well as younger family members on who correspond with each other. I have sometimes felt a bit "left out" by not signing on, too. But, I just don't have the time. If they care enough, they can call or email me. If I did get a Facebook acct, I would have no time at all left to myself.....just too busy!
