"Speaking to Washington Jewish Week last year, Stuart Eizenstat, the former US ambassador to the European Union, warned that people of color in the United States might see the oppression of Palestinians as similar to their own.

“The problem is, and this is for Hispanic and Asian Americans and African Americans, they see themselves as minorities,” said Eizenstat (“Courting majority minority,” 24 July 2013)."

I would have thought, person for person, there were more Hispanic, Asian Americans and African American than "whites"...

@Darren Woolsey--
Nope, still very much a white majority in the U.S. I'm one of those whites who has no problem whatsoever with us becoming more multi-ethnic, but it drives the racists and xenophobes here crazy. Racists, xenophobes, Islamophobes, religious bigots, right-wingers--you'd be amazed at the overlap. Almost all of them invariably gun nuts, too, which probably isn't so surprising.

Israel's problem is that Latino nations and their people can see all too clearly what they are doing to the Palestinians, and it is too similar to their own histories. I doubt the hasbara campaign is going to have much success, but it bears watching. Israel's has had huge success in turning the oppressor into the victim among the white majority. But just imagine if Israel turned all its misguided propaganda efforts into instead correcting its injustices against Palestinians!

Hi Bruce,

The other point about that, is that there appear to be more "whites" in positions of power, whether it be corporate institutions and/or government, federal or otherwise.

I don't and never have had any problem with multi-ethnicity, but clearly, there are many who feel threatened by it.

I've never had any trouble with multi- ethnicity, being born & raised in the south, because I was raised being taught all are equal.

Noted. Thanks for posting, Carrie. Love multi-ethnicity! The Boston neighborhood in which i live (Jamaica Plain) is a "minority/majority" area, and has been for some time. Young visitors remark that i "live on Sesame Street!"

I bow to your greater knowledge Bruce. I thought the combined ethnic groups outnumbered whites at this point. Since I am a latina perhaps it was just wishful thinking. :-)

I think that people should consider the facts. Israel consists of mostly Jews and Jews are a minority in the world. Jews have experienced terrible treatment for years and years in so many countries and that was one of the main reasons why they want to have at least one small country in the world that is for them. Remember there was a time when the Nazis offered to let the Jews leave the countries that they controlled but other countries would not accept them even if they were doctors and so the Nazis began to put them into terrible conditions and then to kill them. Unfortunately now it is the fanatic Muslims who want to wipe Israel off the map completely and will even use the "Palestinians" to do so. Remember Muslims are not a minority but Jews are.

May we conclude from pro-Israel groups courting America's Latino communities that the criticism of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians and its war in Gaza is reaching critical mass and they are in desperate need of damage control? Do they need need to keep the numbers up, so to speak?

Criticism of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians is not the same as Jew haters. I wilsh that people stop their
rethoric emotions(language that is intended to influence people and that may not be honest or reasonable) like name-calling,personal insults and racism, in order to justify Israeli crimes.
