Before Diane Sawyer's blockbuster interview with Bruce Jenner aired on ABC, she told George Stephanopoulos, "This is a family love story." Indeed, when the interview ran on Friday night, there was something different about the way 20/20 covered ...

Noted - Sawyer treated Jenner with respect, kindness and empathy, going to great lengths to let Jenner tell his own story.
Thanks for posting Carrie

I did not see the interview, hope to catch it on "On Demand," tomorrow, but am pleased with how it apparently went.
Jenner's situation may help this still infantile, puritan country grow up a bit.

Great for her. The GLAAD site is a good resource.

This is perhaps a bigger issue for some with their fixed attitudes than homosexuality or even race ethnicity.

I've worked with one transgender person, and in an IT department with 100 people, Brian now Beth was known by everyone. . . thankfully she was spared the sniggering wrath of most when VR came up years ago.

I don't get how a transgender person can be republican. The GOP detests everyone except the wealthy.

Takes a lot of guts to discuss this type of issue, but I don't think anyone would go through with being transgender unless being really serious. It is difficult to understand, but I can see it in Bruce Jenner, after he discussed what his life has been like with his feelings of being a woman inside.

I admired several things in this interview....his identity as a religious person (take THAT, bigots!) and as a Republican....and his offhand remark to Diane that ''you won't be the tallest girl in the room anymore!"

He showed us the same courage and determination we saw in Montreal, so many years ago.

Now...if only he weren't associated with those awful Kardashian people!

Love is Love is Love!!!! You can't judge someone until you have walked in their shoes, down their path in life!

I just finished viewing the 2 parts of the show, and would gladly echo Pam's comments.
This is one brave human, with a personal and world wide mission about being human.
It reminds me of a book I read, decades ago, called "Three Ways of Being Human," by Gene Lysinski, if I recall the last name correctly, but there are myriad ways of being human. I only wish that the religious obsessives could recognize that!

I put a comment in here, a 1/2 hour, or, more ago, do not see it.
I saw the interview this evening, have to agree with Pam, Lisa!
This reminds me of a book that I read ages ago, called Three Ways of Being Human, by Gene Lisitsky, I believe.
She wrote about 3 cultures, but there are myriad ways of being human, and I hope jenny's story allows people to recognize that...even the obsessively religious.
