TEXT OF ARTICLE:

Israel's diplomatic-security cabinet decided on Sunday move forward with administrative detentions – detention without trial – of Jewish terror suspects, in the wake of Thursday's deadly arson in the West Bank.

"The cabinet sees the arson and murder in the village of Douma as terrorism," the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

The cabinet decided that administrative detentions will be used "in the appropriate cases" and will require the approval of Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein.

On Saturday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon told the Shin Bet security service he will support the administrative detention of right-wing activists suspected of involvement in terror attacks against Palestinians, where there isn’t yet enough evidence for indictments.

Ya'alon routinely approves orders to expel extremist settlers suspected of violence from the West Bank, but believes that the most recent terror attack warrants harsher measures.

On Sunday, the cabinet also decided that a special ministerial team headed by Ya'alon will explore and suggest new methods of countering such terror attacks. The team will also include Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked.

Is "detention without trial" legal?

Darren, we're talking about Israel. What they consider 'legal' is often not acceptable to us.

Yeah, especially with Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked in the team they wil surely get things right and secure "justice". Ha!
Thx.
