It's more despicable than ever!!!
Yesterday's vote was a straight up attack on women--and now our only hope is to stop trumpcare in the Senate. The good news is, senators know repealing the Affordable Care Act is extremely unpopular, so they are looking for excuses not to vote on it. We've stopped the Republican healthcare repeal before and we can do it again if the Senate hears from enough constituents.

I was on C2 for a little over a year before I posted any news. Then I came across something that made my blood boil. It was that domestic violence was being treated as a pre-existing condition on health care, which I had never realized living here.

I was so upset that I figured out how to post to C2, and my very FIRST story on C2 was THIS ARTICLE Insurance Companies Can Refuse Coverage For Battered Women

That was posted in 2009 - all I can say is here we go again and yes my blood is boiling once more. I also signed and shared. Damn them all in DC.

Sheryl....I just saw that you posted long ago.

Animae ~ Thanks. I used to be quite vocal in political issues, but prefer to say AWAY now.
It's all so MESSED up. I'll stay with the Animals...and you guys know I care about you.
My medical insurance with Blue Cross went to $1,200/month...It's like getting a loan to stay ALIVE. I know I will be killed for this, but it all went up with Hillery saying she was going to revamp insurance. .
Personally, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ALIVE IN THE UNITED STATES...This is so out of control...we are like a baseball MIT between the government!
Insurance went up in 1991~~~ Who was the President Then??? I would copy for you here...but it is SO BLOCKED for me on the internet! Insurance went from 200 to over 1,000 insanity, what is more insane is that I paid for it on Loans due to my health!! Stuttering in disbelief at what has gone on and happy I am OLD! Now this is disturbing cause ....OK going to stop typing or I'll have a stroke!

Marilyn, it hasn't mattered who has been in the White House and their Administration for years, both Parties did and are screwing over the people. It has been allowed to go on as long as it did as everyone gave a pass to their particular political party they supported and only pointing out the flaws of the "other" Party. When the people start to look clearly at BOTH Parties and the individuals within those Parties, be it the President, or on the lower tickets such as Congress, Governor, and State Legislatures, then they may get a clue that few have been working for the people like us that are on this thread.

Honestly I don't know why anyone would want to move to the USA anymore, we have low paying jobs, no guarantee you'll be able to obtain health care, we have the highest prison population in the world, taxes fund continuous wars while our bridges fall into rivers and our educational system crumbles, the Christian Fundamentalist are passing ever more draconian laws, the Corporate is polluting our water, other pipes so old they are leaking all sorts of chemicals into our water, our food isn't food it pretends to be food.. I mean, why would one want to willingly come to live here?

I can only understand those who are escaping war zones why they would want to come here at least it is a chance that one will not be bombed, but we have lots of guns and if one isn't killed by some maniac then it is the police you have to be concerned about.

Learn from us Canada and Australia, don't let it get this bad. I'm afraid from all I'm reading the UK is going to be in the crapper, they seem to be losing it's grip on things. Their health care system is going down they have lost programs that use to help the people. But that is how it is done, destroy what exists and promise that if it is privatized it will work so much better - it doesn't, it won't.

Calling sexual assault & domestic violence-related health problems "pre-existing" suggests a social tolerance of such violent behaviour - and it seems that this is indeed the case ...

I just can't understand how intelligent people can FAIL to see the benefits of ensuring affordable care for all. Even extreme capitalists, corporation owners, must realise that if their "serfs" are healthy and not riddled with worry about ensuring essential health care for their families, they can perform better in their work ... so EVERYONE benefits, either directly &/or indirectly.

We have a good system in France - a proportion of cost reverts to the individual (but we have many "mutuals" - private &/or cooperative companies - which for a reasonable subscription, pick up the difference between the state subsidy & the actual costs). For the very poor, the State provides this gap-filler, and for anyone with a chronic health problem, the State provides 100% for any costs related to the condition. (And, incidentally - most "mutuals" ask no questions about existing conditions when one signs up! - although for certain "special" costs such as equipment for teeth, eyes, hearing , they don't pay up for the first year of coverage.)

The advantage of the system is that one has a good idea of the real costs of health care, because we receive accounts. For some medical acts, we pay & then are (rapidly) reimbursed automatically. But unless one wants some health service that is "luxury", one isn't in a situation of having no access. (e.g., one can get false teeth ... but implants aren't covered by basic State health coverage, & might not be covered by the mutual.)
