Amid fears that Russia may move into eastern Ukraine where there is a significant Russian-speaking community, Obama warned that "further provocations" would only increase Moscow's isolation and exact a greater toll on its economy.

In my growing up years, there was always the fear that Russia would bomb us.

Then that fear went away or at least was disregarded in comparison with other country's threats.

Is Obama kicking awake the original fear of Russia?

He certainly doesn't seem to know the meaning of common sense and certainly not the meaning of taking care of your own. Obama takes the groceries to the neighbors when his own children are starving.

Us too, Zee - we always were afraid the Russians would invade.

Interestingly I was watching the repeat of a 1980s BBC sitcom the other day ('Yes, Prime Minister') and the fictional PM Jim Hacker was being asked what he would do if the Russians invaded West Berlin - and each time it was done in the question by degrees - 'Salami tactics' - it reminds me of the current situation, most worryingly. Vladimir Putin was an old-style KGB man - and he wants those days back again - God help us!

I never trusted Russia and cold not believe that Americans or anyone would invest in that country. Putin always had something in his manner or eye that made you know he would pull some crap. so he has done it and some twit newsman in Russia say they can nuke America to radioactive dust and I guess this moron thinks he will run naked through the field after this. Obama and the world can do nothing against them because we are civilized and mostly democratic governments and he knows it and it is reinforced by what ever Snowden showed them to get into our computers. Noe the twit in North Korea and some of the other nut jobs will act out. So now you have the evil empire all intact. If anything is done it will need a full measure and the understanding that many will die but Russia will need to be totally destroyed. Sanctions are nothing to them. They will eat their children and burn there bones for warmth to be the great empire. They are as bad as religious nuts

Mike M.- who are you to tell which country should be totally destroyed and many people will die?
Who is an evil after all? How many Russians do you know in person?
Why it is OK for USA to put their missiles in Ukraine, which is ocean away, but it's not OK for Russia to protect it's own borders? Or have USA never invaded other countries or interfered into their business?
I know many people from Crimea and they wanted Crimea back to Russia.
I live in Kiev and I've seen "peaceful protestors" with Molotov's cocktails and swasticas, yelling "Death to Russians and Jews". Your mass media show you only the half of the story, the part which they want you to know.
And, for your info, I've been living in USA in 2005-2009, so I have an idea about your life. I've never judge the whole US nation by the deeds of Bush. The same about other countries.
And what about the newsman you are talking about- no one takes him seriously, not in Russia, not in Ukraine.

I totally agree with the comment of Elena, if Russia does something they are always wrong, they are the evil, USA and Eu are are doing everything for pure humanitarian spirit, oh c'mon please, the world is not Disneyland!!!!!! And if somebody call democracy to keep under control with unlawful interception of all the major governments of the world......And anyway some comments are not even worthy to be read, are pure provocation by people who live outside of reality and still want to believe that their country is the best in the world. I'm Italian and in here there are many and many things that are wrong, what I've to do, defend it anyway and in any occasion? I don't think so!!!!!
