I heard on the news (NPR) that this bridge's design and construction was found to be less than wonderful three years after it was completed. A study found that there were not enough redundancies built into the design.

And the sickest part of course is that, collectively, IT'S OUR MONEY that funds everything!
There must be a rule deep in the fabric of the universe, that where humans are concerned anyway, Irony is the unifying force.

Although individually most people also tend to overlook and put off major renovations on their homes. I think we are just victims of ourselves. As Pogo (and Walt Kelly) said: "We have met the enemy, and he is us!"

Firstly, I'll bet the "final straw" on this flawed bridge, will turn out to be the decision toclose down 2 lanes for fairly minor construction--this caused the 6 lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic the full length of this4 mile (?) bridge--Imagine all the extra weight compared to normal!
We need to petition about the deaths doe to poorly-built or maintained roads and bridges! Anyone know how to?
Also, found it interesting that according to the article, Bush is sending money "for clean up"--hope it's a lot better than the way he managed to "clean up" Katrina!!! I guess he's too preoccupied trying to "clean up" his oil proceeds in Iraq---
