After a three-month study of the incident that sent shock waves racing across the solar surface, physicists have just presented their findings of what they're calling the "Great Eruption," NASA reports.

Okay, there were numerous "B" class flares and two low level "C" class flares, a C3.2 and a C3.3. There have been 8 days with far greater activity since Aug 1, 2010. These guys must be looking to secure a grant by over playing an ordinary solar event. Does anyone remember a spectacular aurora on any of the days following August 1st? Right, that's because there weren't any. February 8th of this year was THE most active day thus far for Solar Cycle 24 with 18 "C" class flares and 4 "M" class flares. Give me a break.

During the mid 19th century Earth witnessed an anomaly, a solar flare of incredible proportions. Lacking any WWW or technology to support our infrastructure , the result was merely burned telegraph wires. Within several months we were up and running again. I term that event an anomaly because it occurred during a relatively stable period of solar activity. We are now on the precipice of a shift to an unstable solar evolution. What we have seen so far is just the start of the dawn of a new age. An age we are not prepared for or even understand, save the real scientists. The Government, while outwardly criticizing proponents of this future are in reality taking it quite seriously and have been planning and executing fail-safe measures - bunkers, food stores, command centers etc. for the past ten years.
Things around us will deteriorate exponentially for the next two years. I don't claim to know precisely how this will pan out, but believe it will in ways that are not beneficial to the human race.
The alignment that will happen on the 21st of Dec. 2012 will be an event with far reaching implications for the future of all mankind, and there will be an increase of significant solar events as that date approaches.
Mr. Sutton - you plead, " give me a break," I fear you will get just that but it will not be the break you believe you seek.
What really disturbs me, is the fact that we could have mitigated our future had we collectively not been so arrogantly self centered and asked for help. If you wonder of what I speak, I say - Ask your Government - they have know about this and how to save us for decades. It's a damn shame

I keep on insisting that the more we all meditate in a group, the better things will be. Consider that it only takes 1% of the entire world population to bring about a change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone up for it?

Paul A.

I agree with you completely and I feel you misunderstood what I was referring to. When I said "give me a break" I was referring to the unfounded claim being made by this story on a minor event. The date December 21, 2012 has more significance than a lot of people realize. There may be extreme solar activity on or around that date, but what will be significant is our solar system will pass through the galactic plane on that date where we will experience extraordinairy levels of cosmic radiation, magnetic and gravitational forces as the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, the Sun and Earth become aligned. No one knows what effects that alignment is going to have on the Sun or the Earth, because the last time it happened was nearly 26,000 years ago and not enough research has been done to know what earth changes occurred then, but what you can be sure of; it won't go unnoticed.

Gloria C., that was exactly what I meant by "give me a break".
