US corporations and people who avoid paying ONE DOLLAR each year in taxes include most of the largest companies. Total dysfunction in Washington prevented even trying to get them and the rich to pay ONE PERCENT more!? Certain hypocritical wannabe leader types preach cut, cut , cut and yet have accepted large amounts of (taxpayer sourced) money themselves in the recent past. No it really wouldn't take much to change the prospect of paying down the debt if it were only possible to get a government to function properly and do it.

And it is obvious that the author does not really have a Masters in economics, at least not one in macroeconomics. The very first sentence is all wrong. I know; it was not meant to be factually accurate. So just what the hell was it meant to be?

The US debt can be solved once 25 million American workers who are currently unemployed, underemployed, repressed at their current jobs are restored to productive employment. AT THIS TIME the debt is not the problem. The jobs crisis is the problem. All the rest of the wailing and wringing of hands is sheer hysteria and BS. By concentrating on the deficits and debt and ignoring the jobs crisis, you guarantee that you never solve the deficit/debt issue. By solving the jobs crisis, you guarantee that you CAN solve the deficit/debt problem.

All this blather about the debt AT THIS TIME is like being faced with a broken water main and yelling about how much rainfall you'll need the rest of the year to replace the lost water. Shutting off the water and fixing the main is what you need to do NOW. Jobs are the issue that shuts off the water and fixes the main.
