China is the No. 1 destination in this illegal trade, where rising incomes are driving a demand for exotic pets, trinkets, traditional medicines and rare foods, with the United States coming in second. But the worldwide trade is so widespread, so pervasive that it's now estimated at up to $20 billion per year, second only to arms and drug smuggling, according to the U.S. Department of State.

One of the most critical situations is the slaughter of elephants in Central and Eastern Africa. Poachers are killing tens of thousands of the animals every year, fueling the illegal trade in ivory.

This is a travesty which left alone will kill every critter on the planet. America sits as # 2 in the world, next to China, in this God awful abuse..

This must end. Gr$$d seems to be everywhere, destroying all that's beautiful in the world.

It's no surprise that this agenda is fueled by the "Wealthy" demand for the various parts of these beautiful creatures. The wealthy who participate in this slaughter needs to be held accountable to their actions as well as those who "Murder these critters..

Where are the good stewards?

Thanks Phyllis, I agree with Barbara it is so sad to think that greed is so rampant that is indeed destroying our world.

Skin Melanoma Is One Of The Most Predatory Cancers as These abnormal cells quickly grow out of control and attack the tissues around them......

Now where have we heard of this sort of predatory behaviour... ah... yes.. Humans overpopulate the earth and especially the abnormal ones (i.e. poachers and their buyers) attack and destroy other species on earth which replicates Melanoma on the Human Body.

Mother Earth is so very sick as she's riddled with numerous forms of predatory cancer and with almost insufficient medicine to overcome the disease.

This makes me angry as well. So does Japan going after the whales. Give these beautiful creatures time to heal and grow their populations. But no, we seem hell bent on destroying them as fast as we can.

When their greed has destroyed the beauty of the world and made global warming even deadlier, how many of the poachers, traffickers and buyers of exotic animals will think it was all worth it? This trade *must* be made illegal, with stiff penalties!

Though we all know this is true and we have and will keep signing petitions and letters, it seems that nothing is getting better. These must be governmental initiatives, it must cost so much from each government that any profit would be lost the poachers.

Mankind's HUNGER for $$ is HORRIFIC!. Sometimes, I sob hard at night at what distruction I see. My heart just hurts for the creatures as well as our environment, AND for all of the children that actually, don't get to know/see what I have in my lifetime.

Phyllis ~ Thank you for posting dear and Noted with extreme sorrow!

Eventually enough folks like ourselves will make a difference. Outrage and action like signing petitions will put pressure on those that participate both as consumers and killers.
Thanks Phyllis.
