United States bee populations are in a nationwide free fall -- and this could spell the end of fruits and vegetables grown on our soil. Not only has the US experienced widespread honeybee deaths and disappearances, called "Colony Collapse Disorder"

In early May 2008, between 330 and 500 million bees were killed in the Western part of Germany (Rheintal) by Bayer's clothianidin pesticide, which had been applied as a dressing to amize seed. More than 7.000 beekeeper rang up the Landesverband Badischer Imker (beekeepers' union) to report total losses.

3 New Studies Link Bee Decline to Bayer Pesticide. In 2010, according to research by the Pesticide Action Network of North America, at least 142 million total acres were planted in neonic-treated seeds—a trend that will continue if not increase in the 2012 growing season. That represents a landmass equal to the footprints of California and Washington State.

Since 2006, U.S. honey bee populations have been in precipitous decline, with some estimates suggesting losses as high as 30% per year.1 While that's terrible, the problem is far greater than just the loss of a species. Without bees, a big piece of our food supply is in serious danger. Pollination by honey bees is key in cultivating the crops that produce a full one-third of our food.

One such chemical, called clothianidin, is produced by the German corporation Bayer CropScience. It is used as a treatment on crop seeds, including corn and canola, and works by expressing itself in the plants' pollen and nectar. Not coincidentally, these are honey bees' favorite sources of food.

EPA, USDA etc are as criminal and corrupt as Bayers and the rest...if they were doing their job this would not have happened. Its time to dissolve and replace these out dated, criminal and redundant agencies and put something responsible and sensible in its place.

Signed and shared. I just read something recently that the corn that is being planted in the midwest which is GMO corn encompasses the size of California and Washington state combined. That is not good for the bees nor is it good for humans. These people who run these companies are so evil there are no words for it.
Work as hard as you can to plant heirloom seeds and wildflowers native to your state.
For the Bees.

When are people/corporations going to learn that the chemicals or chemical by-products they disperse are ruining this planet. From the bees and other animals, to our drinking water and water for animals, to the plant life, you name it. It is all being systematically destroyed by one big corporation or another. When will these corporations learn that their chemicals can and do have disastrous effects on our planet's welfare. All they are concerned about these days is getting their big bucks and forgetting what really matters, our Planet. It would do them well to remember that IF THERE IS NO PLANET,THEN THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR BIG BUCKS. Our planet should come first to everyone, not just the "few" of us that do care2 so much. Thanx. Noted and Gladly noted.
