There is no place for bigotry, anger, hate and judgemental in this Society....much less from the pulpit with a Preacher who is suppossed to be an example of how Jesus lived which he lived a life of love and acceptance of all people.

Reverend Charles L. Worley of North Carolina’s Providence Road Baptist Church needs to step down
from ever preaching again. Apparently, Charles does not understand Christ's teachings and acceptance
of love for all people.

ignorance can hurt a lot of people and animals, for that matter. but, in this case, the people who do not accept gay people don't even know why. because they are different than the norm, they must be evil. every human has a right to love any other human. God loves ALL his children.

Reverend Charles L. Worley likes to think of himself as an exemplary Christian --but we all know better. A true follower of Christ doesn't have room in his heart for hatred. He's a phony, and so are his supporters. As a Christian, I'm embarrassed for them...

Don't you people believe in freedom of speech?Think about something for a moment-If you are signing a petition now to take away a person's right to free speech because you do not like what he says, the next time it could be someone trying to take away your right to do something because they do not like or agree with your opinions.Do not be so quick to do something to restrict others, even if you think the persn is a total asshole, because the next time it could be your rights being taken away.

I signed. Even though, I do not like being a part of these issues, because I am well-read on the Bible. However, ministers, reverends, pastors, and even rabbis have so many other issues they can cover nowadays that one does not need to speak hatefully against specific people. They are supposed to be focused on OUR salvation. They are supposed to hate the offenses or the crimes, but love the people!!!

Irene M (9)

HOLLY MASIH...Of course "we people" believe in freedom of speech, and that is exactly why we are signing the petition. Sadly you are confusing freedom of speech with downright ignorance, intolerance, and total disregard for civil & human rights...This has nothing to do with freedom of speech, this is plain and simply incitement to hatred! You also state...Do not be so quick to do something to restrict others.Isn't that exactly what you are trying to do to us? Petition signed. Thank you, Jim.

I'm omnisexual. Why be satisfied with homo or hetero? The whole life experience can be a solid energized rush. We emerge from the womb a glowing ball of erotic, orgasmic vibrating joy and ecstasy and then the material world proceeds to beat it out of us. By the time we hit puberty all our dynamic blissful force is reduced to and centered around the genitalia for purposes of procreation. For most people that's it until cremation or grave. For a fortunate few there is the yoga that can help them understand how to manage ojas shakti. For them life can once again become a joyful adventure and orgasmic erotic energy can suffuse their entire being.

Mike m (9)
Wednesday May 23, 2012, 2:26 pm
Holly, actually, I recognize your concern, However, the petition says nothing about restricting the free speech rights of the pastor. If the petition called upon the government to arrest, censor, or censure Worley's hate speech, I wouldn't have signed it, since I DO believe in the First Amendment. What the petition asks is Worley to voluntarily step down for his hate speech. Frankly, snowball's chance in hell. But, free speech allows us, as American citizens, to display our dislike, distaste, or disgust for what he said. I signed without reservation (knowing that it won't affect anything.) I believe that most Christians in the US actually believe in personal freedom (if not equality), and I see these comments as a minority position. By the same token, the vast majority of Muslims don't blow anybody up, but I still don't like the ones who do, I have no use for religious terrorism, by Muslims, Christians, or whoever. Would I surrender my personal freedoms to any religious institution? Only if I joined it, but as a free American, no chance in hell.

Signed and noted. I commented on this story as well. This homophobe shouldn't have an audience of any kind apart from that he can garner behind bars. Inciting others to violence is against the law in this country, we call that terroristic threats. Which he most definitely did do. While mangling the language he was apparently trying to use, he was "agin" just about everything. Including nature apparently since he obviously thinks that GLBT people are somehow choosing their orientation, putting them in concentration camps would cause them to die out. As if that Nazism wasn't bad enough, the fool doesn't grasp in the slightest that the deity for whom he purports to speak and claimed was "agin" it, created ALL we see before us. He is accusing his Creator of making a mistake by creating GLBT people. That is as blasphemous as was the rest of his hateful speech. No one chooses an orientation that makes them by definition outcasts, why on earth would anyone do that? Why would anyone THINK people would do that? These homophobes NEVER answer that question, they just spew their ignorance and hatred around as if there were no consequences for doing so. Well, there should be, whatever organization that jackazz belongs to should be disavowing and defrocking him. He is not fit to call himself a man of God when he so obviously does not understand the first thing about love. Which is that it is unconditional and all encompassing. His God is a lot larger than this tiny despicable creature He created. Just to show the rest of us how not to be, I guess. I don't see any other useful purpose on the planet for him.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Some don't like freedom, they should lose theirs until they can appreciate it.
Prejudiced bigots should be jailed, sent to "Corrective Thinking" classes.

Actually, there ARE limits on Free Speech: one limit would be, literally, "Shouting 'Fire!' in a crowded theater" {when there WAS no fire!}, which would cause great harm to people by causing unnecessary panic, potentially maybe even injury and death.

Another limit is Hate Speech, which also causes harm to groups of people and individuals belonging to those groups.
If the Pastor actually called on his Congregation to kill, hurt, or take other action against Gay People {such as destroy their property, hold them down and cut their hair, force them out of town, etc.}, that would be Hate Speech. He, or you and I, could say such hateful things among our friends! In Public, that's a different matter.

I'm not sure of the provisions of the laws on Hate Speech; or, if what the Pastor said actually constitutes Hate Speech as defined by the laws. {The LUDICROUSLY erroneous statement, "Gay people will die out", is NOT the same as saying "Kill the Gays".}
Defined in law as Hate Speech or not, however, these statements show the "Pastor" to be CLEARLY UNFIT TO GUIDE THE MORALS OF HUMAN BEINGS. Saying he OUGHT to "step down", is within OUR rights of Free Speech. We are NOT saying "lynch him" or "kill Christians" or anything of the sort!!!
We are expressing our opinions and indignation; and given his bunch of yahoos as a Congregation that approves of this, we will have little immediate effect.

Barbara T (431)

The Repukelicans are trying to have it both ways.
Their Polling has shown them, that Marriage Equality is a LOSING ISSUE FOR THEM; so they tell their Public Supporters and Spokespeople to AVOID THE ISSUE ALL THEY POSSIBLY CAN. They don't want to TOTALLY ALIENATE THE MILLIONS who are "coming around" in ever-increasing numbers, to accept Marriage Equality, and for that matter Gay Equality in all spheres of life!

On the other hand, their BASE, the only one they have left!, consists of backwards yahoos like this Preacher and his Congregation. Among themselves, they are RAMPING UP THE ANTI-GAY RHETORIC. They are hoping to ACTIVATE THEIR BASE while this goes on "under the radar" of Public Scrutiny!!!

MORE POWER TO THEM! This will NOT go on "under our radar" after all!!!

Thursday May 24, 2012, 11:39 am
So sad that this pastor attributes his hate towards fellow human beings, to God. Especially, when God has commanded the exact opposite of his people! God has no need of hateful preaching by "mere men to their fellow human beings," since he gave up his only son to save the entire world!

He's not teaching what Jesus taught- love, peace, and brotherhood among all people. Instead he's preaching his own agenda of hate, bigotry, and discrimination. This is the complete antithesis of what Jesus preached. He's preaching intolerance of others and promoting divisiveness among people and promoting the bullying of others by his hateful rhetoric. This man isn't interested in being a man who brings peace and love to the world like Jesus Christ instead he is more interested in foisting his hateful and distorted opinions on others! One of the most important tenets of the Christian religion, “Love thy neighbor as thy love thyself," he has completely forgotten.
