All signed! Thanks Dandelion!! I wish I knew how to make a petition!! I'd send one to Ford Motor Company to see if they would help!!!!! The mustangs have been a trademark for Ford for almost 50 years now!! I think it's high time they gave a little back to the horses that have helped make them millions and millions of dollars! A big company like Ford can swing a lot of weight around. Wouldn't that be awesome if before the Ford Mustang's 50th birthday in 2014 that all the wild mustangs are listed as protected and all roundups are abolished? Just an idea!!

Thank you for posting this. I have seen the videos. Just makes me sad. All above actions already taken - belong to several orgs and receive from home, and send emails from home, and on and on it goes, and on and on it goes...We need a Sea Shepherd!! The BLM is just thumbing their nose and ignoring public outcry. Our tax dollars are funding this atrocity, and every American should be outraged. Every American should be outraged about what's happening to many of our native species...but the massive response is not there. You have a Canadian, Kim O, who is outraged, but where are all the Americans. The Nevada bill proposed to deny horses and burros water died (In remission actually) partly because Senator Manedo received 10,000 emails. So that was a victory. But I think it should have been 100,000 emails. Defeat is never an option, and I never give up hope. And I am grateful to every news post. I like your idea, Kim. I am just freaking tired, I want more serious action happening here!!!!

These American Icons should be left to be to roam free on open lands. It is not like they are crowding out people. There is plenty of open land for them to run free and they should be. There is no excuse for rounding them up to kill them. Can you imagine the outrage around the world if the Lions or Tigers in other countries were rounded up and killed like what is being done to our Icons of the West? Shame on all those who have a hand in this despicable and deplorable, inhumane act. Have we lost all sense of humanity in America? How sad it is.

Kim O. has an excellent idea and even though you don't know how to do a petition Kim write to their headquarters and suggest this to them. Stella W. brought up the same thing, so perhaps if we all wrote a letter, with enough of these letters the CEO might jump on it as a good public relations campaign. We have to keep trying for these lovely horses.

Constance I chose a lovely video of the horses roaming freely, not a graphic one of them being abused. The narration was done in a form of poetry and it told the story in such a dignified and yet a very telling way what is happening to the horses.

I really search in my finding videos that tell a story but do not leave the viewer in shock. I think we all realize what is going on, and for those who do not, the appreication of watching these horses in this film and the simple telling of the story is adequate enough. So if you didn't watch this one would be a joy to do so, as you say you are passionate about the horses.

Thank you so much Dandelion for posting the video and the links. Too many people are not aware of the cruelty these beautiful and wild spirits endure at the hands of this government that is actually breaking the law that was unanimously passed in 1973 to protect them. There has never been proof that the horse actually became extinct on this Continent, in fact there is very good evidence that they did not and that they evolved into the majestic animals we see today right here in North America. They are just as much a "natural" wild species, native to this land, as the deer, elk, buffalo, and wolf. They are needed for a healthy eco system, just as the other wild animals are. They deserve to run free. Our government is catering to the Cattle Industry with their removal, and our Secretary of the Interior, Mr. Salazar, is one of the wild horse's worst enemies. He wants them gone off public lands and he also wants to allow for their slaughter. He is a Colorado cattleman from a longtime ranching family who receives government farm subsidies. I've spoken to him about these beautiful animals and he refuses to see any other viewpoint but that of a cattleman.

Thank you Dandelion for the story and the video's. I will sign all petitions and forward this to Others. KIM O, what a wonderful Idea. I think Ford Motor Company could pull a lot of strings to help these Mustangs. They have made the Mustang Car famous. Anyone else who thought this up, occolades to you as well. If Fords were to go along with this, whom would they contact?? I haven't watched the video yet, maybe there is someone listed there. Lets keep on top of this and see what happens.Where can concerned citezens address mail and to whom?? Lets save those Mustangs!!

We all have a voice and we need to use it to speak-up on behalf of these
Icons of the West. Maybe I care so much because I see in the horses what
our government can do to we humans. Freedom in what makes this country
great and freedom for our wild things keeps us great. Make your voices heard to help save these magnificent animals.

I clicked on Saving America's Mustangs and I keep getting their Website, no petition to sign. I signed the others and to save the Wild Horses, unless that is the one. No petition especially for the Mustangs though. Can someone help me with this??

Connie B (0)
Saturday July 2, 2011, 2:39 pm
I forgot - you can speak-up for the horses by emailing your elected officials, I don't care what party they repreesent. I've been able to include links to the videos, etc. You can also use email to write Secretary Salazar and BLM's Bob Abbey - should let you know it's sort of
tricky using the Department of the Interior website but I know you'll have patience to try. I bombard President Obama with emails as well. We need to be the voice for the mustangs, Nays to all.

How To Sign the Petitions

Patty G. On Saving Ameica's Mustangs.......go down below the top videos and in the dead center of the page. You will see where it states CLICK HERE TO TAKE ACTION AND BELOW IT ALSO STATES TAKE ACTION. It would be right on that spot just click and a page will open up for you to sign.

On the Oppossive Massive Removal, Stop Plan to Sterilize, and Horse Slaughter Prevention Act......scroll down and about halfway there will be boxes to fill in your information. Once you fill in the first time and submit the next two petitions will have your personal information already filled in so all you have to do is hit submit.

For those wanting to write or call Ford Motors the address and phone is below. Hope many will do so. Great idea.

Patty G and all others. Again, don't know if the link will lead to The Cloud Foundation video -

The Cloud Foundation has up-to-date information on all upcomming round-ups, lawsuits etc.

I don't know if this link to The Cloud Foundation will work but if it doesn't - check out the website for more information.

The video here is sickening. Makes me want to shoot that damn helicopter out of the sky and break some cowboy legs. I lose it when I see cruelty to animals and sick when you know they are getting paid thousands of dollars -
cowboy helicopter owners make more than $3,000,000+ from the BLM.

Dandelion, I had seen the video initially, and it does make me sad. I was also sad when an elephant had finally been rescued from her prison and torture. I was happy she was free, but the sadness comes from the reflection of what was, and is. I cannot help my feelings. But in no way was I meaning to imply your choice of video was horrible or shocking. I am grateful to your post, and apologize if that was miscommunicated. I can not apologize for my feelings of sadness, or outrage, or frustration....they are just my feelings in the moment, and those who know me, just tolerate my rants.

Sheryl G (360)
Saturday July 2, 2011, 3:39 pm
Is ok Constance, was indeed a miscommunication. I assumed you thought it was too graphic, as I've seen those videos of the horses being chased down by helicopters and such, poor things. I was thinking you didn't want to see horses being hurt and I knew that wasn't the type of video it was.

Yes, seeing the beauty of these gallant, graceful and sacred beings can bring to tears the thoughts that this is what is being ruined and destroyed before our very eyes and while we are standing watch.

All we can do is keep the pressure on and hope that these Barbarians that have the control become Enlightened by everyones continued efforts. I do believe Deb spoke great truth in her comment above. There is always more to it then they would like you to know or believe. Slick and sick SOB's they are.

Read, watched video(Beautiful!), signed all petitions, & noted, thank you Dandelion! The American government & their "BLM", need to get their acts together, & admit their mistakes & wrong-doings! We will have to force them to do so though, I'm afraid. We'll also need to get more aggressive in our fight to stop them, being "nice" does not, & will not work! To destroy a creature of such beauty, that represents all that America once stood for, & one that has been proven to be a native species, is a disgrace against life itself, & against all that we hold dear, our FREEDOM!!

Valerie W (52)
Saturday July 2, 2011, 5:11 pm
P.S. I wanted to agree with "Deb E", & her comments, & add some of my own. Since science has proven what many of us have already known, horses ARE a true native species, that evolved on this continent, & no where else, who's really to say that every single last horse died out, was hunted to extinction, or otherwise left, actually DID?? Who's to say there could have been small pockets or bands that were isolated, & survived; then perhaps some could have bred with the horses that the early explorers left? No one was there, or is here, that can dispute that possibility. Either way, they are native, were "re-introduced", they should be respected & treated with dignity, & like the treasured national heritage that they are!

Me too, Dandelion, all signed! I notice that most of the people responding to this post are female. I think for some reason women, especially as little girls, have such a thing for horses! In second grade I not only loved horses and read every story I could about them, I would spend hours with a girlfriend "being" a horse! Perhaps it is their grace and beauty, perhaps it is our deep desire to run free like the wind across wide open spaces in a culture that is rather restrictive (especially to a girl raised in the 50"s.) One of the biggest thrills of my life was my first time on a horse, and all the time I got to spend on a friend's dairy farm (small, very humane dairy farm!) snuggling with the horses and their lovely Jersey cows. They took in a rescued mustang filly and gave her all the freedom they could.

Thank you, Dandelion.

Just sent a verrrrry long letter to Ford Motor Company!! Very polite of course, asking if they could pleeeeeease step in and help save the little Mustangs. I'm enclosing the link I used. The header at the top should say "community and environment". You can send a letter without having to create an account and log in. Fingers XXXXXXX they come back with something hopeful!! They truly do represent freedom and our heritage, and the BLM needs to be given a seriopus wake up call and Salazar removed from office. However, I do think that measures need to be taken to control the numbers to some extent, and sterilization of some of the herds is a logical step. Yes, the information on The Cloud Foundation is good and sound. I agree with what is posted there and they advocate for the temporary sterilization of some of the mares and gelding of the lesser quality stallions also.

Thank you for bringing this forward for everyone to see if they are unaware of this horrible situation. I have signed many, many petitions to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazaar and the BLM along with senators and others for a long time now. I also receive a lot of snail mail petitions from various equine groups. As we know, the wheels turn more than slowly when it comes to anything in Washington even when there is proposed legislation here and there stashed away. Same goes for the EPA. I saw Lisa Jackson on last week in an interview and she dodged every question. I am very disappointed in just about everything these days.

Diane L (110)
Tuesday July 5, 2011, 1:05 am
Sorry, Deborah, but who is Lisa Jackson? The name doesn't ring a bell with me. My guess is that she's a Republican, from the "dodging questions" thing? My State legislators, fortunately, consist of two Democrats and one G.O.P. and she (the G.O.P. representative) does the same thing. She even replied to a petition I'd signed about global warming (making factories take the financial responsibility for cleaning up their own mess) and tell me that global warming is a MYTH!

Dandelion, trust me, I didn't vote for the woman G.O.P. Representative, and she got an earthful or "eyeful" in a personal e-mail after I read her asinine reply! She has gone out of her way since then to send me e-mails, and seems she wants my vote next election. Not gonna' happen. Last time I voted for a Republican was about 20 years ago, but might have voted for Gerald Ford if he'd run. She had the nerve to tell me that IF business' had to pay to clean up the air they polluted, it would cost "too much"! Really? I guess if we're all dead, it will be cheaper, then?
