The United Nations' International Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21 each year to recognize the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflict and promote peace. It is also a day of ceasefire - personal or political.

I couldn't agree more with you Ben, but maybe if we can acomplish one day around the world, just maybe it might expand to more days until one day every day, as you say, will be a day of Peace. Thanks for sharing the photos with us.

If only we could experience peace globally on one day. Perhaps we'd figure out it's better than what we have. Too many images of was persist, even in songs about peace. I've had my fill of war and so have most of us, probably, and yet war persists. I think we really need to come to understand the reality of why wars exist---who pulls the strings of war and what we can do about it. I appreciate your effort, Dandelion. It is a noble one.

Too many images of WAR I meant to say, of course.

As I can't create my own videos I am limited to share the words and the meaning behind the videos, the way the people chose to place photos is out of my control. I searched and picked ones with the most peace for the song I had selected and as the one from Istanbul is only found on the internet, it was either not share the song someone in that area of the word created or show it as the video was presented. Just doing the best I can with what I am limited to. Maybe one day I might figure out how to create my own videos....until then....I do hope the information on the visit site link was helpful and useful. Is also why I asked others to share any videos, poems, words of peace, or in Ben's case photots that they would like to offer. Thank you for stopping by.

Cheers Dandelion... Peace everyone! ☮

War persists because there are too many war profiteers. Unfortunately WAR is big business. Why not make Peace profiteers, make Peace a big business and make Peace more profitable than war :0)

I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.
Albert Einstein

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.
Mother Teresa

If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.

Cheers Ben for your photos...

Peace comes in every language. Here are many ways of saying peace.
http://salsa.net/peace/translate.html

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

Peace starts with oneself...

Peace can happen if we ignore the warmongers. It is not the people that want war. Let us stop collaborating with violent and cruel policies worldwide. Refuse to kill for them, refuse to financially support their murderous policies. Shop local and organic. Get off their grid. Boycott all who support violence.

Peace is what every one of us wants apart from the devils who have lost their minds and souls.

The way of peace is the way of love. Love is the greatest power on earth. It conquers all things."

Thank you Dandelion for this article and the links.

I truly believe that if we chose love instead of hate, all the problems in the world would be solved.

I choose love.

We forget that WE ARE ONE!

Sending love vibes to all of you.

What an ugly irony. Isn't that the day Troy Davis is supposed to be executed. While the rest of the world wants to move forward, backwards GA wants to murder an innocent man.

Sheryl G (359)
Tuesday September 20, 2011, 9:50 am
Indeed Gravitas, I was thinking of that myself. Very sad and shameful. For those who may come onto this thread and do not know who Troy Davis is, please go to the link below. There is a lot of doubt as to his guilt, a lot of doubt, and still the State of Georgia will execute this man.

As I said on another thread, I rather let a guilty man live than allow an innocent man to die.

Please sign the Amnesty International Petition on this.....a New one, incase you signed the older one.
SAVE TROY DAVIS LIFE PETITION

RIP is not the type of Peace I am wanting for this man......

Thanks Dandelion for highlighting Troy's sister's plight and the petition!!! Yes, peace - if we can just get the US of A to withdraw from everywhere else on earth, we may have a better chance at peace for all? Enjoy your day tomorrow - I hope and pray at least ONE day will be honoured and quickly become one a month and escalate to hell and gone!!!

Whilst the UN is doing much good deed around the world, I believe its time for the organisation to look within its group and determine ways to improve effectiveness - cut bureaucratic expenses, reduce hierarchical structures, reduce corporate waste.... make fundings and expenses more transparent. Save more the right way so that it can be spent for the causes UN stands for. Lifestyle expenses are getting tight - donations and contributions and findings cannot be taken for granted and exploited in the name of UN.

I'd like to add an old favorite of mine, "Peace Train" by Cat Stevens. I haven't been able to figure out how to add a workable link here in Care2, so I'll just provide the YouTube link. Anyone who would like to hear the song and view the lyrics can do so by copying and pasting the link into your browser.

I think Marilynn was trying to post John lenon's message. "All we are saying is give peace a chance". Thanks to Sheryl, Marilynn and John lenon whom I loved. I protested in the sixties and stood up for those who went to Canada to avoid the war. Still we treated those who returned badly. The warriors of today are welcomed back. However the goverment who sends them to fight and die short changes them. We have freedom, don't forget who we owe it to. War is hideous and I want peace for all the world. In the long run humans always seem to fight, even Cain and Abel. . In an ideal world there would be no war. We do not live in an ideal world. Part of the problem is the population is not awake but self absorbed and not willing to stand up and join the struggle to end war. Remember WW1 was t o be the war to end all wars. Didn't happen, I will pray for peace and speak up where I can. It seems the real power is with the money people..... Sad but true. Ty again Sheryl for all you do for peace.

I would love to celebrate a day of peace! I comment on many "nutrition" and "animal welfare" articles, here on care2, and my friends and I are always attacked viciously by one or two notorious vegan nazis...simply because we are not vegan. To give peace a chance, it must start with something simple...like peace between vegans and ethical omnivores. How can the world have peace when what kind of food we eat is such an issue?

Given the sheer proclivity to violence demonstrated in the wild by chimpanzees, our closest "evolutionary cousins," then it is highly improbable that our species will know prolonged periods of peace globally. However, that does not mean that we shouldn't keep trying to fight our basic nature, resist the impulse to aggression, and do what we can to learn to live cooperatively with each other and all beings in this world.

You cannot currently send a star to Dandelion because you have done so within the last week.

Yes, it is Roger, it obviously has been lost on the so called justice system in Georgia. The UN has billed it as a day of ceasefire - personal or political. I guess not all are on board even for this one day.

I understand Shirley that many feel this way, but we must not let our hearts fall victim to the ills of the world. I do believe that Peace does start with me. So with even this one thread I was in hopes that some offerings of Peace could be presented, but I have seen that is very hard for some to do. So if we can't offer Peace on a thread, then we can understand how hard it is to obtain Peace within the wilder world. But that doesn't mean I should stop promoting Peace.......as I said, Peace Begins With Me.

Sheryl i love that you have said " Peace Begins With Me " because this is absolutely the truth !
Peace starts with each human being ... can be accessed within ... then shared into our world
The website below that i humbly offer is
Words of Peace Global
Prem Rawat, widely known as Maharaji, offers a way to discover peace within four practical techniques which enable anyone to turn their attention inside in order to experience the feeling that resides there. He calls these techniques Knowledge: the know-how to go within.

Peace within has been my experience since it was revealed to me in 1983. The joy of practicing Knowledge simply is unlike anything I had known before, or have known since!

Given freely to millions of people Prem Rawat / Maharaji travels around the world, sharing his message
"
What I offer is more than words. I offer the know-how to access the experience of peace and fulfillment within. I call it Knowledge. What Knowledge makes possible is an enjoyment of life that is independent of circumstances. It is a way to connect to the experience of the self that lies within."

As John Lennon's song Imagine says
IMAGINE
