An amazing video shows the rescue of a dog that had fallen into a frozen channel in northern Michigan, by a Coast Guard unit.

After rescuing the dog, the guardsmen brought it back to the station's boathouse, dried it off and warmed it up. Benzie County Animal Control took the collarless pooch to the Animal Welfare League of Benzie County, where it was given a clean bill of health, the Coast Guard said.

I went to link to the Benzie County Animal Control which shows a smiling woman and the dog with the information below that read:

Dog found in Betsie Bay is back home safe. Thanks to the U.S. Coast Guard.

I saw this on the news. I'm so glad the Coast Guard was able to rescue this poor freezing dog. The lakes are frozen now, with big floes of ice on them. Hope it warms up soon, and the snow stops, too. lol. Thanks for the post, my friend.

I saw this on the news too this morning.
Thank you to the rescuers and thank you Dandelion for posting.
Always good to read about people doing good for animals than what we normally read on here.

Noted. Would loved to see the video, but it just won't come up. It keeps saying "your video will be available shortly." Maybe I can catch it later. I'm glad the dog is well and back home with his family. I just wonder how it ended up in the frozen channel to begin with.

Awww, what a pretty dog and such amazing animal rescuers. What an idiot owner - who would let their dog just run around unattended or unleashed - anything can happen, like this and if it weren't for these heroes the poor dog would be dead.

An amazing rescue. I came home today to find out from my neighbour that my Missy cat had fallen into her pool. She must have misjudged a jump. She was dry & OK when I came home an hour later.(second pool swim for her)

Glad your kitty is okay Shirley.

Not sure why the dog was loose to begin with, sometimes despite people's best efforts dogs get away from their owners. I hope it was just a one time accidental escape and the owner will secure the situation so it won't happen again.

I've seen this. It really speaks to the good will of most people, that we will endanger ourselves to help not only each other but other animals as well. Have you ever seen a more appreciative rescuee? That dog KNEW it was being saved and you can feel and see its gratitude in its eyes. A real good news story!

Hallelujah! Thanks so much Dandelion - I was having a very bad news day and this made me feel quite a bit better - and thanks for the updates. God bless Michigan Coast Guard Rescue forever!

(How did the dog with no collar or identification end up there - particularly in such bad weather? I do hope the owners will take very good care to see this doesn't happen again.).
