That Crazy Wild Haired Liberal Jew That Christian Evangelicals Can Get Behind

World  (tags: Bernie Sanders, Christian Evangelicals, liberal Jew, Liberty University, John the Baptist, religious leaders, Pope, wealth, power, money, God )

When I saw Bernie Sanders on stage at Liberty University I saw, John the Baptist, crying out to the religious leaders. Calling them corrupt and complicit with those who have all the power all the money all the wealth abandoning the people that God loves

Saw Bernie on Rachel Maddow last night in which he was, as usual, brilliant. It had to take courage to go before this group but as he said last night, it's not about the differences between people - it's about how they can come together on what they do agree on. It's a skill most politicians have no clue how to use.

Bernie is the one non-repug who came out post-debate and talked about "the people" and "the real issues" that were not discussed in Reaganville

omg, he gets it! How can you not be a liberal if you are a Christian? I can only hope that he's not the only one, that there are a lot more out there who get it.

I hope so too why I just had to place this article on. Gives me some hope of turning this ship around. I like how he placed the abortion and gay marriage issue, is that we shouldn't major on minors. Meaning that both issues are important, but Jesus didn't make them major issues he never spoke of them.

So glad that someone who MAY get listened to is singing my song. I am not claiming to be a prophet, but unfortunately in our world, anyone who attempts to actually follow Jesus now stands to "the church" as a prophet. And "the church" is not listening. One feels like Jeremiah.

seems a miracle already happened to our sweet Sheryl :) "the man had tears running down my cheeks!"
See? Jims tears running down HER cheek! That's the miracle of the gospel. ;) I didn't hear Jim weeping, though, but, if he did it were tears of joy, no doubt!

I will voting for this crazy, liberal Jew from Vermont and may be moving to his state soon although we have great senators in MA too. (He isn't why I am moving of course). IF the Republicans hate Obama they will be foaming at the mouth if Bernie wins.

David: What you have just heard, was a SERMON by an Evangelical Xian - and a very moving one too!

Even us Atheists and Agnostics can acknowledge, that a SERMON can be a FINE WORK OF ART, a work of LITERATURE of its kind, as a grand Cathedral, an exquisite Mosque, a Stained-glass Window with Biblical Themes, or an example of Allah's name in fine Arabic Calligraphy, can be WORKS OF ART, no matter WHAT the Religious ideas they express. I can certainly myself be very moved, by a Bach Easter Cantata or Verdi's Requiem...

The REPETITION of the fact that Bernie was "a Jew" - and who knows WHAT Bernie's PRACTICE really is, he comes across like an Atheist to me, but it's none of anyone's business at this point...

This Repetition was for ARTISTIC PURPOSES, like a refrain in poetry or in a song or a theme in an orchestral piece. It was meant to underline the IRONY that here was a JEW - a Jew like Jesus himself, and like John the Baptist! - speaking to CHRISTIANS who supposedly think they've got more of the "truth" than unconverted Jews do. It was done for the EFFECT... this Sermon, like many, was designed to STIR THE EMOTIONS, rather than merely give straight-faced Facts, which it ALSO did... That's how WORKS OF ART work...
I do like how this EVANGELICAL PASTOR, starts out "straightforwardly" and then WORKS HIMSELF UP into delivering a POWERFUL SERMON... I don't know if he planned it that way, or it just "came out of him"! Anyway, it was effective - and that's GOOD, because his Target Audience is not the "already converted", but the Others, the Distant, the Unfriendly.....

I have by now heard MANY INSTANCES, such as for example, of REPUBLICANS in Vermont Voting for Bernie - being essential in Voting him into the Offices he has held there, in fact!
Of, in Missouri, FORMER TEABAGGERS [!!!] having Bernie instead of Tea Party bumperstickers - I guess the Tea Party FOOLED some folks that it was "Populist", when it was a SHAM... and now they're un-fooled.

During interviews with actual Students at Liberty University, they were - guardedly - NOT UNSYMPATHETIC. Remember, that as this Graduate stated, students can get EXPELLED from Liberty {!} if they so much as POST IN FACEBOOK supporting someone who supports Gay Marriage... so the Students WERE NOT FREE TO TELL US THE TRUTH, as this Alumnus is. But I bet, I just bet, that surely SOME OF THEM ARE STARTING TO THINK..... Can't suppress THOTS!!!!

The Democrats are FOOLS AND LOSERS if they run Hillary Clinton instead of Bernie. Whatever her merits or de-merits, HILLARY CLINTON DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET REPUBLICANS TO CROSS OVER AND VOTE FOR HER. Or Tea Baggers or Evangelicals! ONLY BERNIE HAS THAT ABILITY.

I hope to see "Republicans for Bernie" and "Evangelicals for Bernie" GROUPS FORMED...
There are HONEST, tho mis-guided, people in the "other camp" that are APPALLED by that camp's actions....

Noted. Thanks, Dandelion.
Under the weather today, and can only add that Bernie has a great message for so many---clearly a majority can agree with what he stands for. And, Rachel Maddow had the Republican poll numbers which gave both Bernie and Trump 12%. Bernie is tying him in a GOP poll, and I am really happy to see that!

Barbara, I guess there will be such groups formed. This sermon is being spread widely on Reddit and many will spread and share further on social media.
Team Bernie should identify and contact this pastor Jim and perhaps get him to help in more ways with the campaign. Probably the best thing that could happen, given the obviously incredible success evangelical preachers enjoy in the US.
Wasn't Billy Graham a personal adviser to G. Bush Sr? What's wrong with Jim for Bernie!

Thank you all for taking the time to offer your comments. When I post stories I don't like to say too much and sway a reader, but some have said it perfectly.

Bernie is a brilliant man and he speaks from his Heart. It matters not of his religion or others religion or not having any religion. Fair is fair, equality, respect, that can transcend to all people if they open up their heart to it. That Bernie Sanders can bring in the young, the old, the Progressives, the Christian Evangelicals, some of the Tea Bag crowd, and the minorities speaks well of him.

For far too long this "greed is good message" has ingrained itself into the religious masses. That if someone is not doing well it's because they are a flawed person, that they didn't pray hard enough, or were not enough of a believer. This divides and pits one against the other and it feeds well into the Corporate mind think to accept that poverty will exist and even okay to those who are not faithful enough and that a few will have the richest beyond measure.

Jim heard the message of his faith the true cornerstone of his faith, what so many speak of that a lot of people claim they are religious or Christians but they fail to remember the basic teachings of Jesus. So I know David got a little ruffled on this one, I'm not pushing a religion here, but I'm showing that many of us from various type of backgrounds can get behind the message that Bernie is trying to convey.

That is what brought me to tears is that of all the Candidates, it truly IS Bernie Sanders who can bring most of the people of the USA together strong to bring ourselves out from under this yoke we are carrying. Hillary isn't able to do that and you are most correct that the Democratic Party would be fools if they don't put their weight behind Bernie. I don't see where Hillary could run on the Republican ticket and be equal to their top 3 runners, I don't see any Republicans that could get elected on a Democratic ticket.

Inner instincts, created a formula and proved it evoked the emotions required to win and keep an audience. It's a solo musician's recipe. Bravely, firmly, confidently face your audience. Be yourself, honest, with a from the soul, bare bones delivery. Have total belief and passion for your lyrics, enchant, waken, arouse, create a beautiful memory with your music. At each and every concert, give them the favorite, tried and true material, but surprise them with a few new ones Make eye contact and speak directly to most. Remain on stage at the close, answering requests and be available and open after the event, signing autographs, answering questions. Be sure thy have materials to take home as mementos, and to share with others. Be certain that you can and will give each future audience all you have. Be alert, in-tune with each audience. Wen noticing a positive reaction to a request or a comment, leave in all future shows. Know your audience in advance--and be capable of immediately adjusting your program if you get surprised. If you have no "angel" (wealthy backer), you're dependent upon word-ofmouth, and ardent admirers who wish to somehow promote you. Keep your immune system up, take supplements and exercise to keep your energies, spirits and brain on top of your game. Always let them see into your heart, correct any negative on the spot. Make sure your "Roadies" and entourage are of like thought and protective of you.. Never give an audience that is not of like thought, a "false" show, just to please them. Stay true, but, present it differently and do include numbers you know they'll find appealing, along with your regular program. You should win over about half to 3/4 of this crowd, and they'll spread the word. There's even more to it. It's cool to have a rousing, popular announcer and even a topnotch opening act, but, you are the real draw, and as such, until you're very well established, ou must do a solo act. Anyone who does not vote for Bernie Sanders, isn't voting from their heart and soul. They have a negative agenda---a wrong reason not to vote for him. Thanks Dandelion. Go Bernie Go!!!

That was amazing and the way I trust Jesus lived his life and his messenger John the Baptist. It has always perplexed me that true conservative Christians could think any other way. Thank You for sharing Dandelion, Noted.

Thanks Sheryl, that was great. This person gets the connection between the Gospel and social justice. And he gets that it doesn't matter if it's a Jew or Christian or atheist saying what is true.

I remember after Bush won in '04 hearing and interview of an Evangelical on the community radio who said he wished this country was Biblical, since that would mean that it was a nation of peace and concern for all humanity, but it surely isn't.

WOW! While looking for another thread of yours, I opened this and am speechless! All the points have been covered which is why I've sent stars to you all. Not knowing anything about Religious Evangelicals, (or actually believing Jesus dying on the cross and being resurrected) other than negativity, I don't feel comfortable in sharing. But it's been said already, what does religion matter? I agree this is a POWERFUL message which I will share when necessary, meaning speaking with the 'typical' Evangelical re: Bernie. This makes my Heart SOAR as I could never imagine hearing a man with such conviction spell it out as eloquently and perfectly as he did!!! I admit when I saw Bernie in L.A. a few months back I was as emotional as I feel now. I recall hearing "BERN" was speaking at the University and thought he was truly an honorable man. When hearing he was welcomed fondly I had no idea how that could have happened other than pure Love, Honesty, and that doing the right thing will always prevail (how rare does that occur in reality). I now do. THANK YOU Dandelion! For being speechless I did pretty go. GO BERNIE GO!!!
