An Idiots Guide to Why They Hate Us

World  (tags: Middle East, Imperialistic, bombs, drone war, Jihadism, US Terrorism, George W. Bush, President Obama, Donald Trump, Noam Chomsky, Paris, San Bernardino )

It takes prodigious effort to maintain an air of innocence about San Bernardino and Paris, because no one who claims to be informed can plead ignorance of the long history of U.S. and Western imperialism in the Muslim world.

Sadly noted. Thanks for sharing, Dandelion. Cannot begin to express the horror I feel at the actions of the USA. The delusional lies are totally outrageous!

In the 10 years before the 9/11 attacks the administrations of George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton bombed Iraq while maintaining an embargo, most especially on equipment for the water and sanitation infrastructure the U.S. Air Force had destroyed during the Gulf War. Half a million children died.

The epic carnage wreaked by the U.S. military on Iraq’s notorious “Highway of Death,” where U.S. forces massacred tens of thousands of surrendered Iraqi troops retreating from Kuwait on February 26 and 27, 1991. The Lebanese-American journalist Joyce Chediac testified that:

“U.S. planes trapped the long convoys by disabling vehicles in the front, and at the rear, and then pounded the resulting traffic jams for hours. ‘It was like shooting fish in a barrel,’ said one U.S. pilot.

"So many jets swarmed over the inland road that it created an aerial traffic jam, and combat air controllers feared midair collisions…. The victims were not offering resistance…it was simply a one-sided massacre of tens of thousands of people who had no ability to fight back or defend.” Ramsey Clark

Five years after “the Highway of Death,” Bill Clinton’s U.S. Secretary of State Madeline Albright told CBS News’ Leslie Stahl that the death of 500,000 Iraqi children due to U.S.-led economic sanctions imposed after the first “Persian Gulf War” was a “price…worth paying” for the advancement of inherently noble U.S. goals.

A price worth paying? Tell that to the Mother who cradles her dying child.

The easiest place to start with why Arabs hate the US is the installation of the Shah of Iran in the 1950s. It has gone downhill from since then.

...and horrible results of the United States' support of Israel, "right or wrong," isn't even in this narrative. Why they hate us shouldn't be a mystery. Thanks, Dandelion...peace.

Sadly, most of the willfully ignorant will refuse to read something like this. Or they'll brush it aside as an opinion peace.

You forgot this one Sheryl:
"Nearly one in every three Republican primary voters who responded to a recent poll said they wanted to bomb Agrabah, the fictional city in Disney's 1992 film Aladdin. Democrats polled were slightly less in favor of destroying the made-up place."

The company that commissioned the poll, Public Policy Polling, announced the Agrabah result in a tweet on Friday: "30% of Republican primary voters nationally say they support bombing Agrabah. Agrabah is the country from "Aladdin."

America has meddled in the Middle East for decades to ensure that the most friendly government was in power for the flow of oil. Those in power benefited and the rest suffered the tyrant. Even the recent meddling ie the Arab Spring has been disasterous. It doesn't matter who is in charge, they are meglomaniacs causing a massive amount of suffering. Egypt seems to be the only one who is trying to do well and even there that isn't too wonderful.

Actually it was mentioned Cheryl

From within the article: "This includes the CIA’s subversion of Iranian democracy in 1953, the U.S. government’s systematic support of compliant autocratic and corrupt Arab monarchies and dictatorships, it’s empowering of Iraqi Shi’ite Muslims, and its unconditional backing of Israel’s brutal anti-Palestinian policies."

I agree Patrick, all down hill, is all I remember since I've been alive, things going from bad to worse.

You are correct Bryan, I wish more who need to would read articles like this. Wet their knowledge and dig in deeper and verify if they feel it's solely an opinion piece.

Stan: "These fanatics" didn't just spring up out of nowhere!
Years ago, there WEREN'T "these fanatics" in the Middle East. There was NO ISIS, NO al-Quaeda. Contrary to all the mis-leading PROPAGANDA you hear all the time, ALL Muslims since the beginnings of Islam haven't been "fanatics" "hating the West". In fact, during a long period called "La Convivencia", [look it up!], Muslims ruling SPAIN were A LOT MORE TOLERANT of other Faiths, Christians and Jews in Spain, than the later Christian rulers, who intolerantly EXPELLED all the Muslims and Jews! Christianity has gone thru ITS murderously intolerant periods too, and one can find "justifications" in the Bible for sectarian violence, which most Christians fortunately ignore, just like most Muslims ignore the more violent parts of their Quran, and don't "live by them".
The "fanatics" HAVE A HISTORY AND A BACKGROUND. They started out as innocent little babies just like you & I did! Then they GREW UP during these horrible events the article and Dandelion describe, as children maybe experienced or heard of them, or their families did - as young people, as adolescents, they UNDOUBTEDLY heard of and were very aware of these things! IT WOULD TURN ANYONE BITTER, ANGRY - and hating. Unless you were a Saint and "forgave your enemies". FEW people are that saintly! I bet most of us are not - and would react similarly in similar circumstances!
AMERICANS are stupidly unaware of what is REALLY going on in the world. [This is DELIBERATE. Your govt would rather you DIDN'T know. It sortof shatters the ILLUSION that we're a real "Democracy".] BUT THE REST OF THE WORLD IS NOT SO IGNORANT AND STUPID. Because THEY suffer, and see first-hand, the Consequences of our rotten "Foreign Policy". They, and their Families, and their Communities....

Again, EVERY SINGLE "FANATIC" has a personal history, a REASON, for being where they are... a long chain of real historical events, plus more recent Propaganda from Fundamentalist groups, that THRIVE on the Historical agony and suffering at the hands of the U.S. and the "West".....

From the article:
'Chomsky has recently and rightly called Barack Obama’s targeted drone assassination program “the most extensive global terrorism campaign the world has yet seen.” The program “officially is aimed at killing people who the administration believes might someday intend to harm the U.S., and killing anyone else who happens to be nearby.” As Chomsky adds,
“It is also a terrorism generating campaign – a terrorism GENERATING campaign - that is well understood by people in high places.
When you murder somebody in a Yemen village, and maybe a couple of other people who are standing there,
the chances are pretty high that others will want to take revenge.” '
Take REVENGE. Well, wouldn't YOU?! or if not you, still you KNOW many, many people WOULD!

'Given the remarkable geographic scope of the cowardly U.S. drone war, Obama’s terrorism campaign has spread jihadism across vaster terrain than any tool or tactic to date.'

[And 9/11, by the way, that was a False Flag Operation and NOT carried out by "jihadists that hate us", but by elements of the U.S. Military - see the Website Pilots for 9/11 truth, it could NOT have been anything else - NORAD "stood down" on that day, the ONLY TIME IN ITS ENTIRE HISTORY that has happened. That was a DIRECT ORDER from the chain-of-command. The chain-of-command is the U.S. MILITARY.]

Stan, your saying "America has made more than its fair share of mistakes in the past",
that is BELITTLING AND AVOIDING the issue, it is IGNORING what the article actually said - I take it you MUST NOT HAVE REALLY READ IT.
"Mistakes" in Foreign Policy - of an otherwise "good", "benevolent" "well-meaning" USA?! A country you can be PROUD to belong to?!
If you READ THE ARTICLE, unless you think these well-documented and REAL EVENTS are made-up fairy tales, you must realize that the U.S. position in the world, is as A FORCE FOR PURE, PURE EVIL. The U.S. is guilty thousands of times over, of WAR CRIMES. We use our Power, not "kindly", but TO MAKE US RICHER AND MORE POWERFUL. After WWII, THE U.S. TOOK OVER WHERE THE NAZIS LEFT OFF. It doesn't feel very good to acknowledge that you're living in such a country, does it? THIS ARTICLE IS A NECESSARY READ - or you know NOTHING about how the World REALLY IS. And EVERYBODY ELSE knows what you willfully don't!
'The natural desire for revenge among many in the Muslim world draws heavily on the hideous and perverse humiliation and torture that racist U.S. forces have carried out in that world.
A remarkable teleSur English essay by Vincent Emanuele, a former U.S. Marine veteran of America’s arch-criminal Iraq invasion and occupation, is titled “I Helped Create ISIS.”
By Emanuele’s account of his enlistment in an operation that gives him nightmares more than a decade later:

“Unfortunately, I could recall countless horrific anecdotes from my time in Iraq. Innocent people were not only routinely rounded-up, tortured and imprisoned, they were also incinerated by the hundreds of thousands, some studies suggest by the millions….Only the Iraqis understand the pure evil that’s been waged on their nation…”

“….The warm and glassy eyes of young Iraqi children perpetually haunt me, as they should. …My nightmares and daily reflections remind me of where ISIS comes from and why, exactly, they hate us. That hate, understandable yet regrettable, will be directed at the West for years and decades to come. How could it be otherwise?” '

Also, I may add to this, that just as it is PERFECTLY NATURAL, that Christians care about persecutions and both good and bad events happening to Christians in other countries, that we hear about a lot...
and just as it is PERFECTLY NATURAL, that Jews care about Jews in other countries....
so it is PERFECTLY NATURAL, that Muslims care in the SAME way, about Muslims in far distant countries.

George W. Bush, in TAKING ON ALL OF ISLAM AS AN "ENEMY", thinking apparently that as disorganized and "backwards" as the Oil-rich countries seemed to be, they'd be "pushovers" and easily yield to U.S. invasions, and the U.S. would without difficulty extend its Hegemony over all the Middle East, and the World would do its bidding...
It didn't occur to that "genius" and his "genius" advisers, that MUSLIMS ARE IN EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. They are something like one-fifth of the people on the Planet. And, NATURALLY, Muslims are aware of, and care about, Muslims all over the world in a very special way, just like Jews and Xians do with their co-religionists.....
So, thanks to GEORGE BUSH'S INVASIONS, we have CREATED MUSLIMS WHO WANT REVENGE, IN EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY ON THE PLANET. Muslims traveled and migrated and ARE IN EVERY COUNTRY. They were not as cowed, subdued, and intimidated as he and his gang, hoped and expected. In other words, GWB really MADE THE SCHIESS PERMANENTLY HIT THE FAN.....
[Obama seems stuck with carrying out GWB's policies THAT HE STARTED. The forces set in motion were too strong for Obama to stop... he could only make things even worse, if that's possible. He couldn't reverse the U.S. policy - it was out of his control entirely. The U.S. President is not all that powerful... not, apparently, more powerful than the Military and the Money Interests that WANT wars.....]

I actually had never heard of the "Highway of Death". What a nightmare! Sadly, I did already know only too well why :They" hate us.

Thank you for posting this, Dandelion. Every American should read it.

When the US began its occupation of Iraq, I remember the slogan of the demonstrators against that war, "Not in our name". That slogan kept going through my mind as I read this horrifying piece. As a citizen of this country, I have a very hard time with my feelings about our conduct. We are all spoon fed a sanitized fairy tale in our history books as we grow up, and this process continues with the media that is prepared for our mass consumption. I do think it's getting harder and harder to keep the truth under wraps. One must almost be willfully ignorant at this point to ignore the truth, or like Donald Trump and his followers, blinded by hate.

Thank you BMutiny for a comment that I could not expound upon any more than what you did. And to Judy, I place the article on here and in hopes people will read and begin to learn the truth. I know the truth isn't clean and nice all the time, but if we are ever going to improve conditions for ourselves we need to view the whole picture.

When it's time to vote, I believe Bernie Sanders is the best one to see this whole picture, Hillary will carry on Obama's legacy and the Republicans....oh dear, I dare not think about it if the past is any indication. Vote wisely people.....and in the meantime please learn about what is going on "IN YOUR NAME."

Thanks for this article, Dandelion.

From the outside looking in, the search for a new President looks like the world's longest running media circus, with plenty of mad monkey vying for attention that they'll say and do anything to get ahead.

It IS time that America had a President like the type Bernie Sanders would become.

Noted. Thanks for posting, Dandelion.
Throughout history, Empires have only benefited the 1%. The U.S. Empire is no different. As the media is now completely captured by it, those who believe what it transmits have no frame of reference for even questioning what is stated.
That leaves it to those of us who search for facts and share what we find with others, and hope they then share, too. Social media has both helped and hindered this process, but I tend to want to look on the bright side---that the truth will win out.
