New Study Quantifies U.S. Fascism Nearly Half of All Retired Congress Members Become Lobbyists

In the 1990s, corporate America became particularly skilled at bending the will of the state away from actually representing the people and towards their own nuanced positions through the use of lobbyists. Otherwise known as fascism or corporatism.

They want more for themselves and less for everybody else.
But I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them.”
― George Carlin

I am a retired government employee who thought I would a least have a decent pension to live on. Glad I didn't count on that. I was paying attention, but I am pissed at those who are taking, in my opinion, illegal jobs as lobbyist. No Ethics

YES - it's the same like in Germany and I think it's everywhere the same - they always hoist their flags in the wind that blows straight most favorable to them - disgusting and unethical!!!

My how the other half live. . .

Washington, D.C. – As a member of the U.S. Congress, one can expect to earn a substantial income of $174,000 per year – a very comfortable sum to live on. But it doesn’ stop there, now legislators are frequently using their political careers as a stepping-stone to a much larger payday upon retirement, often quintupling their income as an industry lobbyist.

In the UK, the Members of Parliament routinely award themselves a 10% annual salary increase; their pensions are very lucrative, AND they claim expenses on virtually everything, plus if you're a member of the House of Lords, I believe you're entitled to a DAILY allowance of some £400.00

Same thing here Darren, they vote to give themselves raises but vote down lifting the minimum wage for the most struggling of workers.

I think Congressional pay raises should be linked to Social Security raises. If we don't get a raise, then neither do they! Thanx Dandelion.

Lobbyists should be outlawed or at least STRICTLY controlled. Any contact they have should be noted and made public. Right now it's just a disgusting and unethical "good 'ol boy's game" done in secrecy .

Noted. Thanks, Dandelion.
Corruption, corruption, corruption. Obama said he was going to fix this. I think the time between jobs was extended, but it hasn't really helped. The "revolving door" needs to be closed and locked. What is happening now is not a democracy. Our taxes pay their salaries and benefits while in Congress. Time for some BIG changes.

"The dangerous American fascist is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power."

- Henry A. Wallace (Vice President, 1941-1945)

Being a politician is a no skill job there are more than a few politician who are completely clueless at their job, the childish nature has also been very expensive whilst they attempt to penny pinch about vital services. Of course there is the very dysfunctional nature of politics with many politicians needing alternative money streams so short of pole dancing and offering Japanese tourists hummers in back alleys. With the costs of getting elected on the meager $170,000 salary many politicians need to get money so they can pay the bills, lest they be hanging from a lamp post when people find how incompetent they are.

So, let me get this correct. Politicians take money to pass bills & deals for corporations and then when they are not elected continue to work for corporations for big money. WRONG WRONG WRONG.

It is going to take NOTHING LESS THAN A REVOLUTION to stop all this from happening.

The 1% ARE DELIBERATELY structuring the entire WORLD - not just the U.S. - IN THEIR FAVOR.
WHY? you may ask? just for the FUN of it? just because THEY CAN???
THEY want to survive - when NOBODY ELSE CAN.
On a DEVASTATED PLANET. That we KNOW - if we've been paying attention! - is what's in the Future.
Global Warming, Seas Rising, Pollution and Utter Devastation of Earth Air and Water, no more Rain Forest, no more Pollinators... There will be MASS DEATHS from MULTIPLE causes, disease, starvation, desperate Civil Wars, etc., but NOT AMONG THE 1% - if they can help it - and they CAN.

Isn't that what you SEE? the PATTERN of it?
They'll let SOME of the Hoi Polloi survive inside their well-guarded compounds, to be Guards and Body Servants. This will mean Survival for those "lucky" few - and their families.
The ONLY choice - either rise to BECOME among the 1%, OR, become PLEASING ENUF to be favored by the 1% as their Obedient Lackeys -
I believe that is the Interpretation of EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE SEEING NOW.....
The 1% KNOW JUST AS WELL AS, and probably BETTER than, WE do, about Global Warming and all the other looming disasters - they can HIRE THE VERY BEST BRAINS, there is NO WAY they don't PLAN FOR THE FUTURE USING ACTUAL SCIENTIFIC DATA... NO WAY the 1% themselves "don't believe in Global Warming". Only their PAID LACKEYS.... anticipating the Favor of being allowed to survive by the Mercy of the 1% - are induced to SAY SO for the consumption of the IGNORANT.....

Is why there is also a seed vault as well. It doesn't have to go that way BMutiny, if the people get moving but I don't see where they will fast enough. I can only hope they do. I doubt we'll be around, you and I, but I look at my children and grandchildren, I"m not so certain for their future. It is a terrible thing to look upon them and to see the future you speak about that could indeed be a very real reality.

It reminds me of the movie Soylent Green, remember that one.
Soylent Green Trailer

The full movie is also on Youtube if you haven't seen it. They speak about 2022, the film was made in 1973 it is showing a very real glimpse of that reality today in 2016. Maybe not by 2022, but we are inching our way closer all the time. Humanity must rise up!

Retired OSHA,EPA,FBI,CIA,NSA..SEC.. many of them make their way into the private sector where they curtail the effort of regulators or help to promise them brilliant careers in return for non-enforcement

Unless you're incredibly principled and have integrity and morals, you can be bought by anyone willing to line your pockets.

I reckon Jeremy Corbyn, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren are but a few of a rare breed who are genuine and are their own person.

TY Arild for reminding us of Wallace's 1941-1945 very astute still prevailing words. TY BMutiny and Dandelion for your comments. I too hope but no one know when there will be another Bernie and/or an Elizabeth Warren. We have a chance and worse case scenario Bernie couldn't get any of his ideas passed wouldn't it be wonderful to have a President who is not beholden to the top 1% and tells all of us the truth? Wow what a wonderful day that will be. Noted
