President Donald Trump, who is in Jerusalem meeting with Israeli leaders who, I guess, he does not consider Middle Eastern because they are not Arabs

I don't think that geography is the ONLY lesson needed!

How about a Civics course, too???? (Among others)

By the way - this has made headlines around the world - for example, in the French news -
US citizens have a reputation for being somewhat ignorant of world geography, but this beats most examples!!

I'm of the generation where geography was taught and spent a good deal of time on it. However by the time my own children came along I noticed there was no time spent on it, other than if the subject came up for a historical USA lesson. Such as the Revolutionary War when the USA were fighting the British, or when those various explorers came over like Ponce DeLeon and others.

Our educational system is in shambles because the right wing chose it to be that way and the left didn't do much if anything at all to explain what was going on. Both Parties too busy being in the pockets of money coming out of ALEC. So how does one destroy a public school system, withdraw funds and beat up on the teacher's and the unions for the mess it is in so the public will look in another direction and not at the actual culprits.

Is easier to push the privatization down the public's throats that way, make a mess of things, make sure it is not working and then step in and say, hey, go privatized and we'll be your answer. So we end up with the Betsy DeVos who hopes to throw in the final nails to the coffin.

Many subjects due to lack of money have been dropped, geography one of them, civics classes, after all we don't want these future citizens of the USA to be too smart and think too much. Many schools had to let go music, the arts, PE, even recess for the little ones. Have to fill their heads with boring teach to the test so there is no time for recess. Teachers have to fill out reams of paperwork that the corporate overlords now require so they don't have time to watch the recess areas.

I'm afraid we have generations of our children and the future of our Nation that has been under attack for the last 40 years, one step at a time to turn it into not a Republic run by a democracy but a Nation that it's only goal is to make the few richer at all costs. I'm sorry for our ignorance, our torch in Lady Liberty hands is very dim at this time.

President Trump was in the generation when he received a good instruction in geography. In fact with his type of business and his ability to go around the world, one would think he'd be at least versed on where he was at.

When I discovered my son wasn't getting any geography in school I bought him a globe when he was 7. He loved watching international news and finding the country on the globe.

Peggy & Dandelion - I think DT's globe carries labels "Trump Corporation", "Potential Trump Zone", "NO business" - Other labels are of no interest to him, really. TC countries shouldn't be on the receiving end of bombs (especially those big ones); PTZ need a little more thought - but the others don't matter. Even their top statesmen can be shoved aside without any hesitation ...

According to Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics, the Arab population in 2013 was estimated at 1,658,000, representing 20.7% of the country's population. The majority of these identify themselves as Arab or Palestinian by nationality and Israeli by citizenship.

Doesn't surprise me that Trump is so ignorant. I'm not even sure he knows what planet he is on!
