In March, my mother Berta Cáceres was murdered in her own home. Her death pains me in a way I cannot describe with words.
She was killed for defending life, for safeguarding our common goods and those of nature, which are sacred. She was killed for defending the rivers that are sources of our people’s life, ancestral strength, and spirituality.

My mother became a woman of resistance, of struggle, so that our deep connection with nature is not destroyed; so that the life of our peoples — the Lenca Indigenous People of Honduras — is respected. Her killers tried to silence her with bullets, but she is a seed, a seed that is reborn in all men and women. She is a seed that will be reborn in the people that follow her path of resistance.
To achieve justice for her death, I need your help.

Please join me in asking U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández to launch an independent investigation into my mother’s murder.

Honduras is the most dangerous country in the world for environmental activists —
more than 100 were murdered between 2010 and 2014.
(Editor’s note: according to Global Witness, 2015 was the worst year on record for killings of environmental activists.
This week, The Guardian reported that a Honduran military unit trained by the United States had been ordered to kill Berta — and dozens of other environmental activists — months before her death.)

These figures make me shiver. These activists lost their lives defending what belongs to us all, and my mother was no exception. She had been threatened and persecuted many times for safeguarding our people’s territory.

Even before my mother’s murder, two of my sisters had to leave the country. But our mother did not stop fighting against the Agua Zarca mega-dam project. If built, the Agua Zarca would lead to the displacement of our people and the privatization and destruction of our territories. It has already lead to the murder of those who have the determination and the clarity to understand that life is not a commodity.

But the dam builders could not stop my mother. With her people beside her, she became invincible. So murderers broke into her house and opened fire against her chest. We are outraged not only because of the bullets that murdered her, but because her killers have walked away with impunity.

The United States has a special role to play in ending this impunity and demanding justice for Berta. The Honduran government receives a significant amount of aid from the United States and will listen to the U.S. State Department — that’s why we need you to ask Secretary of State John Kerry to support an independent investigation into my mother’s death.

At the time of her murder, Berta was working to stop the Agua Zarca hydroelectric project – a dam that threatens a sacred river for the Lenca Indigenous People in Honduras.

Berta’s organization – the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) – and Berta’s family are demanding:

The US State Department insists on an independent commission to investigate her murder and that the government of Honduras allows this investigation to proceed.
The United States should suspend all assistance and training to Honduran security forces, with the exception of investigatory and forensic assistance to the police, so long as the murders of Berta Cáceres and scores of other Honduran activists remain in impunity.
The US Government to stop supporting the Agua Zarca hydroelectric project and projects like it.

Join Berta's family and organization in demanding that the United States Department of State and the President of Honduras fight for justice for Berta.
Say no more to the murder of environmental leaders. #BertaLives

From THAT article:
'Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is facing a new round of questions about her handling of the 2009 coup in Honduras that ousted democratically elected President Manuel Zelaya.
Since the coup, Honduras has become one of the most violent places in the world.
Last week, indigenous environmental activist Berta Cáceres was assassinated in her home.

In an interview two years ago, Cáceres singled out Clinton for her role supporting the coup.

"We’re coming out of a coup that we can’t put behind us. We can’t reverse it," Cáceres said. "It just kept going. And after, there was the issue of the elections. The same Hillary Clinton, in her book, 'Hard Choices,' practically said what was going to happen in Honduras. This demonstrates the meddling of North Americans in our country. The return of the president, Mel Zelaya, became a secondary issue. There were going to be elections in Honduras. And here she [Clinton] recognized that they didn’t permit Mel Zelaya’s return to the presidency."
We play this rarely seen clip of Cáceres and speak to historian Greg Grandin.'

And, yes, in case you think this is "made up" or something, it IS all laid out in Hillary Clinton's book, "Hard Choices", and you CAN read it all there!!!
Hillary Clinton AS SHE SAYS, went AGAINST the advice of the International Community AND HER OWN STATE DEPARTMENT and many others.....
She says she is PROUD OF HER CHOICE.

[STILL hoping for Bernie! or else, JILL STEIN of the Green Party - FAR, FAR BETTER THAN CLINTON....!
Voting for the "Lesser Evil" is STILL Voting FOR EVIL.....]

Noted, signed---thanks BMutiny. Also, we shall not forget that she pointed her finger at Hillary Clinton, as being key for the Honduran US-backed coup, and the ongoing devastation and assassinations of environmental and human rights activists. A very horrid and dangerous atmosphere still exists there, all due to Hillary and her extreme rightwing supporters/backers---and she even had to defy hundreds of letters from Congress, The UN General Assembly, most heads of state the world over----and go against the Obama administrations wishes, as they knew it would and did sever ties with S. Amer. and Latin nations.

Think on that when casting your vote. Better vote Bernie--or if he isn't the nominee--The Green Party's Dr. Jill Stein. That would at the least, elevate and energize the party--and your vote would count. At the most, it would be Earth's and all living's salvation.
