Black Friday is traditionally one of the biggest shopping days of the year, but this year there seems to be some backlash.

Wicked cool! Anything that discourages rampant consumerism is fine with me.

No not really unfortunately. It's such an ugly day--hate it.

Bizarre, a traditional shopping day!
Stop falling for the propaganda people.

Thanx Kathy

Instead of hating the day, just opt out. Do something fun, take the time out for yourself. Parents and grandparents need time to refuel, to appreciate what they have instead of pushing and pulling through crowds of people who believe the hype. Me...splurged on a pint of wild cherry amaretto ice cream...think pedicure, manicure, a homemade spa just for me, with the phone taking msgs. Now that sounds soooo much better than Black Friday. Thanx Kathy.

After the last one of these in England, Shopping for the Mass Mad Monkey World, anyone with any sense would avoid it like the plague.

I certainly hope so! I have avoided Black Friday and its insanity like a cat avoiding rain for years. Instead, I usually go to a favorite watering hole and pound some pints.

For the holidays I no longer give presents. Instead, I donate to charity in my family member's names. One year it's Oxfam, another it's World Wildlife Fund or a local food bank. I don't need more crap; in fact, I am purging my stuff and giving away what I don't need via Freecycle or donations to thrift shops.
