Below is a reportage from a Ta'ayush activist about Beit Jala. An action took place there yesterday in an attempt to save an olive grove from destruction in order to make space for the annexation wall that Israel is building through the West Bank.

Noted Cherly, dont understand who the world would want to continue to defend while the world leaders have dinners to collect dollars for ammunition for Israel and while the Palestinians have stones.

Why do people have to destroy everything and for no good reason!

Come on, Woody, at least be original and stop cutting-pasting the silly "indigenours" remark everywhere on Care2.

No mention of course of the complete wanton destruction by Hamas of the infrastructure that would have left and entire agricultural establishment available to the arabs when Israel (foolishly, IMO) voluntarily left Gaza.

People, soon forget the past! Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Palestine. In these lands, all the Jews were killed, families destroyed, put in prison and many were transported to Hitlers death camps. I hope people can forget the hate, and using the religious beliefs to hurt others, this petty fighting is about land, power, money and hate. Israel, is just trying to get back home, where everyone kept trying to destroy the people since even during the Roman Era, Spanish Inquistion, the Middle Ages of England, etc. Peace to all!

It's not an annexation wall. It's to stop Palestinian suicide bombers blowing up more innocent Israelis and it's working. The Palestinians now have to be content with blowing each other up and it looks as if Hamas is on the way out.

it's fairly clear the govt. of Israel doesn't want nor has any intention of supporting a 2 state policy. The Palestinians are either having more illegal apartheid walls surround them and are being pushed further and further from their homeland into these settlements/camps or into the arms of neighboring countries. For the record, these camps aren't suitable for sewage cockroaches.
As long as Israel deems themselves "untouchable", it will remain to exist.

here is a wonderful new concept.. make the wall bend and go around the grove... it has been done in the past with other walls, and often highways, those who do not see such solutions just are not looking for solutions that can keep the peace, so I am guessing that peace keeping in not as important as a straight line.

Great concept Sharon!
However, sadly. most do not see beyond the straight lines and choose to stay in between them.

this wall is to stop terrorists from killing israeli civillians. do anyone have a problem with that? i wish there was a better, more peaceful way to do it, but there doesn't seem to be. the israeli government must do what it has to do protects her civillians. god help that there should be peace in the middle east

Itís very clear from the video that the IDF soldiers showed a great deal of restraint and care to not hurt anyone. Very commendable.

Perhaps thereís a strategic reason for the chosen route of the separation wall given the violent history of the area.

During the Second Intifada Tanzim militants used Beit Jala as a base for shooting at the Jewish neighbourhood of Gilo, which is located on a hilltop directly across from it.

One of Tanzims leaders Marwan Barghouti, is currently imprisoned in Israel for the murder of civilians.

Tanzim also recruited female suicide bombers, including Andaleeb Takatka, a 20-year-old Bethlehem woman who detonated an explosive belt at a Jerusalem bus stop in April 2002, killing six Israeli civilians, and injuring sixty.

Many Tanzim members joined the al-Shaid Yasser Arafat Brigades (formerly the al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades)
Some suicide bombings committed by that group include:
March 2, 2002: Beit Yisrael Jerusalem - 11 killed.
January 5, 2003: Southern Tel Aviv central bus station - 22 killed.
January 29, 2004: Rehavia, Jerusalem, bus line 19 - 11 killed.
March 14, 2004: Port of Ashdod - 10 killed (together with Hamas)

I suggest the wallís placement is to effectively shield Gilo from possible future attack and to keep such events as those cited above from recurring.

It's very clear to me that Israel is breaking International law once again, and continues to daily ad doesn't give a damn. It's also the Ta'ayush (lit. "coexistence" or "life in common" in Arabic) is a grassroots non-violent organization, which was established in the fall of 2000, by Gadi Algazy and a group of Palestinians and Jewish citizens of Israel.[1] [2] The organization claims to "work against the occupation and against the discrimination done by the state to Palestinian Israelis, and fight against all kinds and forms of separation and segregation between Arabs and Jews and between Israelis and Palestinians, both in Israel and the Occupied Territories." [3] Examples of this activism are the provision of concrete material support (food, medical supplies, etc.) to Palestinians during Israeli army occupations.[4]

so get your facts straight and read what Israeli's and Palestinians endured right below the video.
