Israel Police and Ministry of Agriculture agents on Monday night raided a plant in Kafr Kanna, an Arab town, in lower Galilee, northern Israel, and confiscated about 30 tons of meat whose origin is suspected to be the Palestinian Authority, Israeli media reported. The raid, which also involved agricultural supervision inspectors at the Health Ministry, unveiled slaughtered carcasses of several species of animals, including camels and donkeys. The plant owner was detained for interrogation.

On Sunday night Agriculture Ministry supervisors of Pitzu’ach (Central Unit for Enforcement and Investigations), alongside the Judea and Samaria police, discovered a smuggling network of meat from the PA into Israel. According to the Agriculture Ministry, the meat is being smuggled to restaurants and stores with fake documentation.

Israeli authorities now suspect that the smuggling network, comprised of Arabs and Jews, illegally shipped the meat from the PA to Israel using trucks with double walls and additional smuggling methods. Police believe the importer purchases the meat in South America for the Palestinian Authority, via the Haifa harbor. From Haifa the meat is shipped to a storage facility in Jerusalem, and from there, rather than continuing into the PA, it is shipped, covered in fake kashrut certificates, fake expiration dates and fake veterinarian certificates.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, since the beginning of 2016 Pitzu’ach has foiled attempts to smuggle 39 tons of uninspected meat intended for selling in Israel. Over the past three years, the same unit has foiled more than 360 smuggling attempts, yielding about 730 tons of illegal meat.

Roy Klieger, head of Pitzu’ach, said the operations to capture illegal meat are based on a broad intelligence network that enables his agents to locate trucks smuggling meat or any other agricultural product. He credited police and other government agencies for their cooperation in blocking uninspected meat that is not only not kosher but may also pose a health risk.

"Israeli authorities now suspect that the smuggling network, comprised of Arabs and Jews."

They found something to agree on--cruelty to animals!

"Sell your Chametz".... no thanks!

..Interesting comments, there:
"Camel meat imported from South America? Really?"
"I advise a vegan diet."
"But on the bright side, it shows Jews and Arabs CAN partner together harmoniously!"

'Seems like', 'suspected', etc. A lot of conjecture, it seems..
... One would have to get the facts behind this sting operation.. planted, or ?

Might be hard for you to swallow jess b, but it's not just in vile, deprived and disgusting beyond words crime like this that Arabs and Jews work together .. A good friend of mine, who lives in a settlement near Ariel, is in partnership with an Arab from the West Bank, they produce and sell hummus together, both in Israel, Judea and Samaria, and the West Bank ..

The majority of us, Arabs and Israelis, get along and live peacefully side by side .. It's you lot here on this site who distort and twist the truth, falsely claiming we hate each other as much as you lot hate us zionists, Israeli Jews ..

A special thank you to everyone who has noted or commented on this post and therefore raised the awareness of these atrocities committed against hapless animals and the victims of this deceit .. Reminded me of the horse meat scandal a couple of years ago in Europe .. When are authorities going to learn that vigilance is in serious deficit?

I hope they caught those that did this and all who were buying and executed them as only these countries can do.

360 foiled smuggling attempts yielding 730 tons of illegal meat in just three years! I hope the plant owner gives Pitzu’ach the names of others involved so they can break up the smuggling ring(s) Thanks, Alexa..

Hartson, the deceitful label says lamb (keves) covered in calf's fat (shuman egel).

Oh my God, I am so so ashamed to even belong to the human race! WTF is wrong with mankind. These poor innocent animals we no doubt just hacked to death, which is what I would like to do to the majority of humans!

This is heartbreaking. I cannot imagine how these animals suffered. Some will kill & eat anything, and never give a thought to the fact that all animals value their lives too. I hope places like this are shut down, permanently.

Wait, you mean that Palestinian Arabs would purposely mislabel camel and donkey meat as lamb? I can't believe that!

Leslene Dunn said it all for me! Thank you, Leslene! I really, really want to be able to speak/write freely on this site but apparently out of the fast-approaching 35 million members, I seem to be at least one of the people who has his/her even milder comments removed. I noticed after searching and comparing thousands of comments that the language and expression I use is quite common and apparently those comments are not removed or Ii would not be reading them! Anyway, it's refreshing to see some people are able to speak up and express their true feelings!
