Afraid I'm the same as AniMae on this. All I can say is whatever you do don't let them sucker you into going the way the American system is.

I know everyone's system can improve or be tweaked but at least you don't go bankrupt over medical which is the #1 reason in the USA.

70 years.....Congrats!

When I think of how many people in the USA who have died during that time simply because they had NO medical care. It’s estimated there are between 20,000 and 45,000 deaths a year due to lack of health insurance. A 2012 familiesUSA study shows that more than 130,000 Americans died between 2005 and 2010 because of their lack of health insurance.
http://obamacarefacts.com/facts-on-deaths-due-to-lack-of-health-insurance-in-us/

Those facts were placed out by ObamaCare and that program hasn't fixed what needs fixing. However on there is matches the statistics that are out on other websites that were older websites.

The 3rd Cause of death in the USA - not sure how that is in other Countries is "medical mistakes". So we are paying the MOST for medical care that is actually killing us - and that is for those who even have medical insurance.

If you find yourself in a hospital without insurance or with some crappy insurance you will KNOW it as you will wait in the emergency room forever, people have waited until they have died, you will get substandard care if you do get in - yes your chart is coded - you don't have good insurance or you lack insurance.

And if that doesn't get you then with all the guns in the Country you can always be shot to death.

Nice Country - if one is well to do and has managed to jump through all the hurdles placed along the way.

Oh yes, let us not forget the millions who stay with jobs they HATE because if they leave the job they will also lose their medical insurance - if one has any kind of medical condition they'll stay at the crappy job. Many times I've heard that over and over again, I'd love to do this or that, open a business but I can't as that will take away my health care and my son is disabled or my wife has a heart condition.

The flip side now is that employers let employee go all the time now, downsizing, whoops there goes not only the income but the health insurance. As the employers use to pay lower because health care was the additional benefit they contributed towards, they paid a portion of the premium and you did, now they hire two part time employees as the law requires you provide only for full time employees. Now they can pay a crap wage and get out of the health care too.

One woman wrote on one of the threads here in C2 land that full time work at her company is 37 hours so she was worked 36 and one half hours........that way, she got NO benefits.....including health insurance.

Fight like hell to keep your Universal Health Care whatever name it falls under......

It's currently a hot topic in Australia, right wing Turnbull wanted to privatize Medicare until Labour got a gist of the plan & exposed him!!

Darren, firstly may I thank you for emailing this thread to myself, when I was born in 1955 the NHS was already born, it has over the years grown to the point it's not just a health care service it covers more, not one of the best health care system in the world but thee best health care systems in the world,
-
Paid for through Taxes of the Working Man, Women and Children who have turned older enough to work, Brits help Others Brits in time of need,
-
Had it not been for the NHS I would not be here today writing this comment, as I suffered 3 major attacks of Asthma and for Perforated Duodenal Ulcers, for which I required Major Operation very quick, within 3 hours of arriving in A&E, I was been operated on,
-
I still remain under the Hospital for my Asthma as an out patient, and will be for the foreseeable future, all treatment, tests and medication I receive are free of charge,
-
And now I reached the age of 60 year old, all my Dental Care, Eye Care are all free of charge and covered by the NHS, Just a Phone Call that all it costs, or log-on to make appointment,
-
Ambulances are free of charge also, even for out-patient appointments,
-
that is what the British have been doing after the war, What have America been doing, very little as I see it for health care, only medicalneglect
-
looking at all the Countries under British control, America is the only Country to come off the worse and without a decent health care system, that's if you can called it a health care system, New Zealand, Canada Australia and other Countries have now got a decent respectable health care system in place, America on the hand is more concerned on making bombs to blow-up other Countries and going to war and dragging other Countries into War on a pact of lies,
-
Cameron said he wanted to sell the NHS, I responded, to my MP. the British Government does not own the NHS to even thinking about put it up for sale, the NHS is owned by the British people, Funded by the British people for the British people the NHS is not for sale, I don't want the likes of Big Businessmen like Trump from America think they are going to come in and buy large stakes in NHS, the NHS is not for sale, when Aneurin Bevan, often known as Nye Bevan, brought in the NHS he stated, the NHS is not there to make a profit, it there the Health Care nothing else.
-
Darren if you world, please thread this article in one of our groups, thank you again for forwarding me this thread,

As someone who is 63 I'm envious.....

One of my daughter's school chums died at the age of 29 because he worked at a Mom & Pop business not required to provide health care as business was too few employees. He also was paid too little to purchase medical insurance in fact he DIED because he couldn't afford an inhaler for his asthma. He was suppose to start a job in two weeks that would've given him health care benefits after a trial period which can be 60 days.

He was getting close - he tried - but he died before he could work within this broken system.

They've lost their way a bit over the years (That "business model" that mucks up services!!) But still way above the US for those who can't afford private health care.

Sometimes rather bureaucratic & slow - but when it DOES work, it is outstanding!

Thanks, Darren!

Ray, I shall post this into your groups, but as everyone here should know by now, with the possible exception of your good self, the right-wing brigade AND those New Labourites (Friends of Tony Blair) are intent on turning the NHS into a Corporate Privatized organization, with top-heavy management, and a continued lack of nurses, doctors and funding.

In my humble opinion, the National Health Service model as it was originally brought, and continues to try be function as, a Service At The Point of Contact, would be brilliant if it could be rolled out worldwide.

I wholeheartedly agree with Bernie Sanders and Dr. Jill Stein in their calls for Americans to have healthcare coverage FOR EVERYONE. This could easily be achieved by taxation of everyone, given the amount some people earn.

I would personally remove Private Health Care completely, but make the resources and funds of Private Health Care available to everyone via a National, International, Global Health Service.

Health Service CAN NEVER BE "profit for money for the rich", IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE "to profit the sick and needy in every society"

Darren "Health Service CAN NEVER BE "profit for money for the rich", IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE "to profit the sick and needy in every society"

I concur.....health care is NOT a luxury and should never be treated as such.

I'm not sure how many people must die and the many who live but are walking wounded, suffering, with various ailments that can not be attended to before the people rise up in sufficient numbers across this land.

This is one issue I was fighting for back in the 1970's....I felt for certain once people KNEW what was wrong that it would be corrected, how could people allow other people to suffer and die. Boy was I naive and so wrong.

Ray, I've posted the article in We The Sheeple, but just found out that I've been removed from Former Silent Majority. I presume by either Michael A. or Sandra S.

Doesn't matter of course, but the notion of the "right to free speech" is obviously NOT ALLOWED with right-wingers.

Be careful that your NHS is not run into the ground as they are doing with our public school system. Making it so nothing works in the public educational system so that people scream and along they come with the fix to our problems, private schools paid with vouchers from the taxpayers money.

Now the monies must be shared with a private school as parents are given a choice of where to send the child so for each child pulled out of public school there is less money going to that public school. Then on top cut back the taxes so that there is less money for the public schools for teachers, books, repairs so on so forth.

Tell the teachers that they can't have a raise for years due to the cutbacks is their "shared sacrifice" and now with this testing, if the students fail the test the teacher can be fired. Doesn't matter that the teacher's hands are tied behind their back with less help less equipment less supplies and many students are now coming to school hungry or even homeless. But it's the teachers fault not an economic mess the 1% created.

So the cry is out there - private schools - close down the public school system it isn't working, but the 1% and those who bought into the "selling of' and helped the public schools meet their failings, it was all in a master plan. But statistics are out that show these private schools obtaining taxpayer money are not doing better and that many times when they show they are doing better investigations show they "cooked the books" and fudged it so it appeared better.

This is how the Greedy Heartless Ones do it, the destroy it and then say "see you need to do it this way.' We know that the public education was the great equalizer that in this Country and others before education was available for all it was only for the rich who could afford to pay for it. They will have us going back to that point, it is already happening at the College and University level - they want to drop it down to only a rich person's child will have opportunity and the rest, well you take what you can get and don't be smart to compete with our better off children for jobs and certainly don't be smart enough to figure it all out what it is being done to the masses.

Watch out for chipping away at your health care system and then claiming well it doesn't work so we must go to another way - you know the American model because they have the best in the world; cough cough.

Dandelion, I sorry for your daughter's chum, died for the want of a inhaler , it shows to me how bad America health system is.
-
Health care should never be based on the ability to pay nor should it be profitable, health care should always be based on need, and available to all and not just a few,

Arild, As a Brit myself, I would say, the NHS has gone through some bad storms in many ways, and I can safely say, they have weathered every storm , the NHS will be around for another 70,000 years, it's here to stay,

Darren when you have a moment or two, please also put the article in Roxy Group, Indefinite Detention, thank you,
