I've seen one, Sharon. It was in Miami Beach in 1997 while I was on a work site. A big one that thankfully moved into the international cut between mainland Miami and South Beach where I was on the causeway between. Awesome. Humbling. And I live in Alabama. These recent Southern storms and tornadoes were north of me and mine, but as always we paid attention to the myriad alerts that were issued hours before. Like most things harmful to humans and the environment we inhabit, my mantra stays the same, in the order of possibilities: 1. Avoid them; 2. Don't feed them; 3. Be prepared.

I live on Oahu. I've watched three tornadoes march across the Kunia aglands. This area is going to be developed into houses. What a stupid idea.

What about concrete dome homes. I am told these are wind resistant and better able to withstand things being hurled at them. R. Buckminster Fuller was into this dome. There are companies that sell dome homes. It seems that government has failed to protect the people from these windstorms, from hurricanes to tornadoes.

No snow storms or tornadoes around the Cape but neither do I want to experience any, thanks - just very sad that people had to lose their lives and yes, I blame governments for not taking proper precautions and ensuring the safety of their people - in today's "modern" world they should be able to take sufficient precautionary measures.

Thank you Anna for this news at site...while I do know about Earthquakes here in California, I have NO IDEA about Tornadoes, what happened in Alambama is horrific, and I can relate...Each State has their own HORRID disaster, here we have Earthquakes, Fires....I did drive through an Electical storm with my older mother when I drove back from Iowa, Goodness I said so many prayers!

When you are used to something it seems to be OK, still scary, but you do know what is going on, when you are NOT used to it it is REALLY SCARY, electrical storms, Toronadoes, Frankly, I was told back in the 1970's by my cousin tp drive the car into the ditch and get under it...It was after the fact, and I had already driven to his farm through all of the wind.
