In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, International Action is installing the first practical systems for chlorinating city water supplies. Since May 2006 we have installed 107 chlorinators on public water tanks providing more than 400,000 with clean water.
In Haiti, nearly every water source is contaminated with human waste and disease because of the absence of a sewage sanitation system.
Germs of typhoid, hepatitis and Chronic diarrhea are carried in the water used for drinking and cooking.
As a result, Haiti has the highest infant mortality in the Western Hemisphere, with more than half of deaths related to water-borne and gastro-intestinal diseases (PAHO).
