Hi Ross, I was vey amused when I got the invite to The Durian group. After all the intense subjects tackled on the animal groups, this is like a breath of 'fresh air'!! My whole family love durians, Dad eats his durian served with rice.Weird, huh? I get my supply of durian cakes all nicely rolled up via airmail from my dear brother in Singapore, hehe. He loves sending me food from M'sia and Singapore. Now if only he has the same passion to get active on animal issues. One time, my colleagues and I had durian during lunch hour in the dental office here in California. That was fun!

WELCOME TO ALL NEW MEMBERS...!! August 17, 2006 1:20 PM
Now its working....lol! Sori my settings for this group discussion wasnt set properly folks..!
HI ROSS, THANKS FOR A DELICIOUS GROUP AS THIS = ARE YOU GOING TO HELP US SOME DURIAN ? AT LEAST FOR THOSE LIKE ME WHO NEVER TASTED ONE?
AFTER READING ALL ABOUT HOW TO GET A PERFECT DELICIOUS FLAVOURED RIGHT GOOD ONE, AM NOW GOING TO SEE WHERE I CAN GET IT...
SORRY, FORGOT TO SAY : AM AGNES, FROM BRAZIL (SOUTH AMERICA) LOVE FRUITS, LOVE LOCAL RECIPIES, LOVE CHATING ABOUT FRUITS AND ANY OF THE GOOD THINGS EVERY COUNTRY HAS.
AS YOU SAY IT IS OK, WILL BRING SOME FRUITS FROM MY COUNTRY = JUST DON´T KNOW IF WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE THE PICS (WHENEVER I POST PICS, I CAN SEE THEM, NOBODY ELSE DOES!!! ).
so it IS the smelly fruit?! i used to see it on fruit stands and was warned not to bring it back home as it is prohibited from entering the building where i stayed. there was even a sign at the reception! i should have tasted it when i had the chance. i doubt if i can find it in egypt.
Hi Ross: Thanks for the invite-I loved your introduction. Now,down South here in Georgia and South Carolina about the most exotic fruit we see is kiwi and most people are suspicious of that. I don't have the time right now but I will be introducing a little "culture shock" by sharing with you how to cook grits, make a fantastic catfish stew, sweet potato pie, peach cobbler and other Southern staples.
Just like any other good Southern lady I can inform you what "pot likker"is and how to grow tomatoes. That's what old Southern ladies do and I certainly fit in that category.
Thanks for the invitation to join! It seems I'm not the first Southerner here (US, that is!) I can't think of any fruit unique to Alabama 'cept maybe road apples! And sometimes along the roadside you may find a flat armadillo and an occasional possum. (squashed, not stirred) But I suppose that doesn't qualify! Oh well, I'm looking forward to trying a durian-tho I don't have much hope of finding one in my local grocery store here in Huntsville. (sigh) I don't know....maybe that's a good thing?

Ross -- looks like you struck gold Again! Thanks so much for inviting me!
I've never tasted a durian, but have a super-sensitive nose. I'll have to figure out some kind of work-around, so I can make it to the delicious inside.
Fruit story about me: when I was little, the only milk I would drink was coconut milk!
Can't wait to hear tales of everybody's fruits and fruity adventures!
As We Enter This Weekend.. August 18, 2006 10:36 PM

Hi Agnes! Thank you fos inviting to this unique group! And Hello Folks!
As I lived 3 years in Malaysia, I know well about the Fruit of King, Durian very well. The latest time I tried it is when I visited Singapore in June last year 2005.
Thanks so much for the invitation. I apologize for being so late. Though we get plenty of fruit here in Ca., I would say that the most exotic would be Acai berry fruit, which I use in making smoothies. Thanks for starting this group. I hope to learn much here.

Hello...One Member Left? Uhh? (131 -130?) August 31, 2006 9:50 AM
everyone. Someone left this group? Who was it? Though it doesnt really matter, tho it would be good to know who.
Hi Andrew. Thanx for joining my group. We all thank you for joining us here for some Durians! Its the Durian season throughout Malaysia and it smells alot right now..lol!!
Yes it is a nice site site isnt River?. Nice pix also! Thought some of you would like it!!
Ohh by the way, I am back now. Thought pretty busy with more upcoming events to consult/manage on as the festive seasons (Hari Raya and Christmas) are fast approaching! So...though I am officially back from my short leave from Care2..I will be sometimes ON and OFF on a regular basis. So..no worries. Hopefully all groups will run smoothly as they have always done....)
Welcome all new faces here and I apologise if I have forgotten to mention anyone.
and Have A Great Weekend as it is now Friday here in Malaysia!
Hi, I'm Daphne. My hubby is from Belaga, Sarawak, and our son was born in Miri. And, I love durian... began a craving for it from the first bite when I was first in Malaysia back in the 80s.
Daphne! Lovely to see you here too!!!! (You do get around, eh? )
Durian is I think almost addictive - and we all get very protective about it because so many who haven't tried it complain about the smell. It is indeed the king of fruits!
Chat later? Warmest love from yer pal River

Right now my stomach is screaming for breakfast. LOL I would dearly love to have some roti chanai. Unfortunately, I cannot make it here... and the closest place that has an Americanized version of it is about 3 or so hours away in DC.
You like 'em stuffed or plain? I have made a plain vegan version - but it was a bit oilier than I usually like my bread to be (That's just me! I must be one of the few people who bakes chappatis in the oven.) But never mind, have a doughnut - or a lovely croissant - every culture has its wonderful version of snackbread!
I like them plain with a great curry sauce on top. There was this wonderful Indian place in KL and another one in Pulau Penang that had the absolutely best eggplant curry for the roti. Oh, how I miss it.
