Please read the detailed report that Nick has uncovered and take action as you are able:
Please note, I have not posted the pictures in my share, but give the link to Nick's share so that you may provide those to the media, the International Olympics Committee, and any corporate sponsors of the Olympics if you choose.
I hope this works. You should just be able to click on it, fill in your location information, and it comes back with the online form for submitting to media outlets in that location.
I think it may also be possible to copy & paste this onto your Care2 profile page too. I have it on mine, its from the Big Cat Rescue.
Ceci -- thanks for working this one! The message you sent out to the media rocks! Thank you so much.
Vida -- I am the same way, too many gruesome photos & I am useless. Just text is enough to convey the horror. That is why I did NOT put the photos in my share. Do you think the media in Spain would cover this story? Did they cover the slaughters earlier this year?
Please, all, feel free to make copies of my share into your own sharebook. Set the visibility "public". You DO NOT have to put the gruesome pictures in if you choose not to. Just use my copy of Nick's share.
If you do want to, use Nick's share directly. I am putting together new shares now, and you are welcome to copy those too.
I have received word from one of the groups working this on the ground there in China, they can see what is posted as "public" here on Care2. So please, let's make an even stronger showing. They are fighting this and need as much support as can give them.
Most important of all, is to contact the media. Media coverage may be able to change the course of events. The inhumane killing has begun all over China. Please write CNN & the BBC especially.
I have received a press release from ACTAsia that they would like to get posted and published far & wide. Getting it onto websites of other orgs and to the media is most important.
They will be getting it up onto their website shortly, but if you would like a copy in the meantime, please net message me your email address and I will forward.
Trying to figure out an easier way, but that is what I have for now.
ACTAsia now has the press statement available for download directly from their website. Please download a copy and forward to the media.
- Please write to newspapers and TV stations in your country telling them about your concerns regarding the dog culling in Beijing.
- Please also send a polite letter or email voicing your concerns to the government and other authorities.
Heartfelt thanks my friend!
ACTAsia can see that their press statement has been posted here at Care2.
ACTAsia is helping the Chinese people themselves protest this atrocity. Show them some support if you like.
China is not a democracy. All Chinese citizens who protest the government put themselves at risk.
Post comments here:
Even a short comment like "you are not alone, we are fighting along side you" would help, even better would be a short comment about who you've written, that you are boycotting, etc.
All of you fight hard for the animals of China, thank you.
Story noted. Comment added. Emails sent.
Thanks for all the contact information!
so much for taking action!
I can't even bear the thought of it. Remember over the summer when the killing squads went into the villages at night and made noises to get the dogs to bark so they would know which homes to raid?
BEIJING - Demonstrators angry at a crackdown on dogs staged a noisy protest in China's capital on Saturday, decrying police killings of dogs and new limits on pet ownership.
Please "note-it" -- and support China's own citizens who are fighting back!
I just want to thank all of you for noting the ACTAsia Press Statement in the Care2 news and for expressing your support of ACTAsia. But most of all, I want to thank you for your ACTION to save these animals and their human companions from terrible suffering.
So many of you have been tireless in your devotion and efforts to fight against this injustice committed against the people and the animals of China. Thank you so much! I have heard from ACTAsia today, and they are very grateful to all of you!
The brutality and indiscriminate killing must be stopped! This will require a sustained and strategic effort, that is always diplomatic though stern and unyielding in its demands for reform.
ACTAsia now has the press statement as well as updated information and photos from yesterday's protest in Beijing available as straight HTML on its website.
Please click the link above to download. Please post links to the ACTAsia website on your Care2 profile pages, in your Care2 sharebooks, at MySpace, on your blog sites, wherever you can, and continue to spread the word. The more of us posting about what is going on in China, the farther will be our reach.
Please consider writing "Letters to the Editors" of newspapers which have covered the story. Thank them for paying attention and ask them to keep paying attention. The safety of Chinese citizen protesters depends on the presence of the international media.
Please forward photos and news articles thru your respective Chinese Embassies to the authorities in China. ACTAsia's website offers other suggestions for actions to take.
Emails to the International Olympic Committee are now bouncing, please send snail mail. Please keep up the pressure on the corporate sponsors of the Olympics. Send them links to the published news articles, photos, and most importantly, a personal message reminding them of the gravity of human rights and animal rights violations in China. Challenge them to make a difference.
You never know, your voice, your particular way of communicating may be just the right one that breaks through!
Let's never surrender!
This photo just breaks my heart. I have been crying since I saw it. I have contacted spanish and catalan television but have yet to hear a reply. There is another petition out:
I feel so frustrated that this is not the number one news in all the world.
Me too... these photos are burned into my memory forever... Especially the photos of this poor lady... and she is only one of many, many others, and then there are the poor dogs who never had anyone to love them...
This is breaking my heart!
Thank for fighting so hard! Means more than I could ever say...
Thank you to Simone for compiling these photos for all of us.
CAN I CROSSPOST THESE SIMONE ON THE CHINA ONE. OR HAVE YOU DONE THIS ALREADY. MY HEART IS IN TEARS
MARY & BECKER
SORRY SIMONE AND MELANIE I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND BUT I POSTED THESE ON TO THE CHINA SITE. AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS I DID NOT SEE THEM THERE YET. THE ANGUISH ON THIS WOMENS FACE BRINGS MY TO MY KNEES. AND IT'S VERY HARD TO KEEP IT TOGETHER WHEN I DOING THIS AT WORK!
MARY & BECKER
Mary -- so sorry! I was away and am just returning now. I believe that Simone posted these first to our China group, but I can't remember, trying to keep these threads going in a few groups, and I lose track. I am glad you didn't wait!
Anne -- I'm so sorry... I hope its okay that I posted these. I don't post the gruesome ones because I also have to limit my exposure if I'm going to keep it together enough to fight. I just wanted to share the ones that are keeping me at this...
Both of you have been so tireless in your devotion to this cause! Thank you so much!
MELANIE THIS LAST PICTURE IS SO MUCH LIKE MY DEAR SRAGE I PTS TWO YEARS AGO. HIS FACE LOOKS SO SCARED. I AM JUST IN TEARS AGAIN. I AM SEEING ENOUGH TO MAKE ME HAVE A STROKE. I CAN'T IMAGINE THESE POOR PEOPLE'S FEELINGS.
MARY & BECKER
Dear Mary, this is killling me too... I am not posting the gruesome ones, but do you want me not to post these either?
Let me know okay?
These are the ones I am emailing out again to everybody... we have got to stop this...
Thank you so much for everything you are doing...
I'm so very sorry about your sweet furbaby, I know you were the best mom to him ever!
Thanks Melanie.... No don't stop posting.....
It's truly heartbreaking just looking at these, but these poor people need help, they are powerless in this, I can see that just looking at this. What they must be going through. It's unimaginable, as is the fate of these beautiful animals!
Is anyone getting a response from the TV? Whenever I send anything they don't even reply. I feel as though every country is afraid of upseting the Chinese goverment by broadcasting their barbarity!
MELANIE, I HAVE SEEN MUCH WORSE WITH MY FORUM IN CHINA. (REMEMBER MY PHOTOS I CAN'T POST ON THE CHINA FORUM, WELL THOSE ARE ONES PEOPLE HERE REALLY DON'T WANT TO SEE) I GET EMOTIONAL AT TIMES. YOU CAN POST WHAT EVER YOU WISH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN.
MARY & BECKER
Anne, Mary -- I am glad you are okay with the posts!
Anne -- Ceci has gotten the automated acknowledgements of receipt, but no one has gotten any real responses yet as far as I know.
THANK YOU MELANIE FOR YOUR CONCERN. THERE IS NOTHING I HAVE NOT SEEN POSTED HERE. I HAVE SEEN MUCH WORSE. THANK YOU. YOUR A VERY KIND PERSON
MARY & BECKER
Please "note-it" here:
Here is the direct link:
Please the page carefully and ACT.
This is the comment I posted to the article in the Care2 news:
For those who are unfamiliar with Animals Asia Foundation. They are a premier organization doing groundbreaking work in a region that is really struggling to institute animal welfare reform. They are working these issues ON THE GROUND. When other organizations have not been able to have a dialogue with the Chinese government, they HAVE!
Jill Robinson, founder of AAF, is very intelligent and politically savvy. She does her research and knows how to work the SYSTEM to the advantage of animals who have no voice, and the people who love them, who in China, also BARELY HAVE A VOICE.
Please READ HER ALERT CAREFULLY, and ACT.
Many are asking what they can DO to REALLY make a difference?
We must provide a groundswell of international support for China's own citizens who are fighting to change this from the INSIDE. We must make sure the eyes of the international media STAY on China, so that the safety of protesters is secure and in the hopes to STOP the killings ideally or minimally STEM the RATE and brutality of the killings.
Please support ACTAsia and Animals Asia Foundation.
We must also send a signal ECONOMICALLY, please BOYCOTT China. Please write the corporate sponsors of Olympics 2008, copy all correspondence to your Chinese Embassies, the International Olympic Committee and FOLLOW through. They must KNOW that this is NO BLUFF. Many of us have been boycotting for a very long time, but the key to success is two-fold:
1) Enough of us must be boycotting to make a dent in profit margins.
2) The targets of our boycotts must know the REASON we are boycotting.
I would like to ask everyone to please, please, please VENT YOUR ANGER and frustration elsewhere, NOT in your letters, phone calls, etc. Please also choose your words CAREFULLY. Do not use any language that can be taken out of context and construed as RACIST or WESTERN SUPERIORITY.
There is a great deal of blood being spilled already in China, we do NOT WANT TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, by attacking the authorities and making them want to retaliate against the powerless people and animals there in China.
This is what happened in Korea in the lead-up to the World Cup at the dog meat markets... please don't make the same mistake. The dogs will pay dearly for any inability to use diplomacy.
AAF is asking for letters to the following targets:
- letters to your Chinese Embassies (see link to directory above)
- Minister Gao Qiang, Ministry of Health, China
- the Nanjing Police, (send to AAF to be hand-delivered)
- your own government represenatives, so MP's and MEP's for Europe, Representatives and Senators in the USA, and the equivalent in your country
THANK YOU to everyone for your hard work and devotion! Let's never surrender!!
Please use discretion and diplomacy when posting comments to the Care2 News.
This is another petition addressed to the United States Secretary of Commerce, Carlos Gutierrez, to use his position to work with officials in China and stop these appalling and indiscriminate roundups.
When writing to the Chinese authorities, please be aware of the following:
Letters should be polite and point out the facts, explaining why more humane alternatives are also more effective. If there is any particular action you are planning to take (for example, refusing to travel to China, boycotting Chinese products) please mention it. We know that it is very difficult not to become angry when the situation is so horrifying. However, letters should not be insulting – this will only make matters worse for the animals and people who are already suffering. Words such as barbaric, primitive, savage, uncivilised and evil should not be used. There could be severe repercussions for people in the country who are working on behalf of the animals if the government feels that they are responsible for verbal attacks by the international community.
Please read the AAF press statement:
Please write to the Mayor of Beijing and the Head of the Beijing Police Department asking them to accept the offer, or to at least agree to meet with Jill Robinson and representatives of animal welfare groups to discuss more humane alternatives than what is currently being carried out.
Please choose words carefully, see guidelines from ACTAsia above.
To ensure delivery, put something like:
For Mayor of Beijing care of Animals Asia Foundation in the subject line.
Remember, if you want your letter to be read, it must be POLITE. Otherwise, it will just be deleted.
