Good Places to Register Domains December 05, 2004 1:16 PM

Please be very cautious about any sites listed here.

Domain registration is a legally risky business, and I am going to be very free with deleting posts from this thread, but will notify before deleting that it will happen, and why,  and you can then repost elsewhere in the board.

Please DO NOT post about any registrar you have NOT USED yourself!!!!

Warning!!!! Just because I think the domain registering services that do survive the delete button in this thread are "ok", that doesn't mean they are.

You go to any business listed AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

All I am trying to do is help you "look both ways" before you attempt to cross the highway. I cannot possibly account for what your experience may actually be. If it is bad, I want to hear about it in this thread.

I registered my lady-friend with a 1 & 1 $6 domain name. no problems.

I signed up with yahoo, their $3 special seemed too good to pass up. I cannot get in to do anything with it. It's been 3 days since it stopped being pending and customer service isn't helping. my first letter got a form letter about waiting for it to stop being pending. It wasn't pending, that's why I wrote them!

Anyway, I'm feeling plenty frustrated. I've limited my complaints to once in the morning and once in the evening. Nothing seems to be happening, should I step up my complaints?

I spoke with somebody who took advantage of their $2 domain offer. He had no probs. Maybe it's just me, Maybe it's because I didn't jump on the 2 dollar offer.

Anyway, my personal experiance suggests to avoid yahoo, I'd go with 1and1.com if I wanted a domain name.

Ok, I got in....finally.

I have a domain name that I own for the next 5 years and I paid $15 dollars. If the complications that I ran into are worth it to you, it's a decent price. I'm still kicking myself for not jumping when it was $2/year.

You don't get any goodies at this price...but there are lots of free webhosts that provide all the goodies...If you're willing to spend the time on research. Or just write me and I'll tell you about the one I found.
