can you say chee uh??? you can save $$$ salba is chia...i've been eating chia for several mo's levels have risen...there is a story of Mr. Bragg the health guru...bragg's vinegar etc...he climbed a mtn??? (i forget which one) at age 92 w/ 2 teams of people...his group only ate chia...the other group could eat any foods they wanted...all of his group finished the climb...the other group's numbers were greatly diminished and what was left of them finished 2 1/2 hrs behind Bragg's this was the food of the Aztec's and Apache...this is how they survived in the desert w/o water for long periods of enjoy chhh chhh chh chia...  [ send green star]

I'm new to Chia and Salba both but from I'm reading, the Chia is predominately black grains with a few white grains. The white grains are the ones that have many more nutrients so those are what Salba is grown from. So to me, Salba packs more nutrient bang for your buck.

Salba Enriched Peanut Butter Cookies

Crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, Salba Enriched Peanut Butter Cookies taste almost too good to be true. You'd never dream they're chock full of Omega 3 and fiber!


1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 to 1 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
(start with 1 cup and add more if needed )
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup Salba


Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Combine applesauce, peanut butter and vanilla together, mixing with a spoon. In another bowl, combine the brown and white sugar, whole-wheat flour, baking soda and salt. Combine contents of the two bowls and slowly mix in the Salba.

Make 20 balls and space them out on a cookie sheet, flattening the balls a bit. Bake cookies at 275 for 20 minutes in middle rack of oven. Cookies should be soft when they come out of the oven. Place them on a wire rack and let them cool for 15 minutes.

Yield: 20 cookies
Nutritional Content Per Cookie:
Total Protein: 3.6 grams
Total Fat: 5.4 grams
Omega 3: 1.4 gram

I'd like to see the studies proving salba is more nutritious than the grain it was modified from. This seems illogical to me -- but I don't know that much about it so I'm keeping an open mind. Either way, I'm very happy to know about chia and salba! I've recently become a vegan and another source of complete protein is much appreciated! you can purchase organic chia... my next step is to grow my own... i'm limited on finances...and organic chia can be purchased for 1/3 or more  less than the cost of salba..i know chia has upped my energy fight w/ cancer and other maladies had drained me of energy...i had chia gel in organic oj yesterday...had shopping and running to do for my mother...from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 pm the only other thing i had to eat was an almond butter energy ball at health food store...about 4:00 p.m. and fared quite well!!! everything i have read leads me to believe that there is little if any benefit to salba over chia unless you are marketing the salba...i read the same newsletter from dr. inglis...that is what led me to chia...over 2 mo's ago...i also read testimonials on both sides from several be the judge...maybe someone from group who has the finances should do a blind chia-salba test...using two or more participants???

just my opp...any bomb threats, blood letters, or marriage propsals should be directed to me!!!

Salba Fudge Nut Brownies

Salba makes yummy treats like these taste even more moist and decadent. Set out a plateful and poof -- they'll be gone!


1 lb semi-sweet chocolate morsels
¾ cup all purpose flour
1 cup butter
4 medium eggs
1 cup hazelnuts
5 T. Salba (crushed in coffee grinder or blender)
¼ tsp salt
1 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract


In a heavy saucepan, melt chocolate chips and butter. Add sugar, Salba and salt, and stir until dissolved. Cool for 10 minutes. Stir in beaten eggs, vanilla extract, flour and nuts.

Pour into a greased, 15 x 10 x 1 baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes, or until a tooth pick inserted near the corners comes out with moist crumbs. Let sit to cool. Makes 2 ½ dozen brownies.
