Our president tells us that "Iraq is a dumb war, but Afghanistan is a smart war." It's all the same war as far as I can tell. Too many American soldiers are dying over there and coming home physically crippled and psychologically scarred. Too much money, that could be used to fix our problems here at home, is flowing down the gutters of Baghdad and Kabul. But the saddest part of this whole sad mess is the civilian casualties, which are increasing under the leadership of our new president. This is not the kind of "change" we were promised and that most of us voted for. Bring the troops home now!
Afghan Civilian Toll Rises
As President Obama continues to push more U.S. troops into Afghanistan, the U.N. is reporting that civilian casualties in the war-torn country have spiked, increasing almost 25 percent above 2008 figures. In the first six months of this year, 1,013 civilians were killed.Posted on Jul 31, 2009 1 COMMENT
The war in Afghanistan should weigh heavy on the publics mind, given the recent increase in troops levels and grumblings from high military officials about the manner in which the war is being fought. Now theres news that a NATO airstrike has killed 90 people, 40 of them believed to be civilians, in the northern part of the country.
