Please sign this petition to be sent to the Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean Governments
Thousands of Moon Bears across China and Vietnam are imprisoned in cages no bigger than their own bodies enduring the agony of different bile extraction methods. Their suffering may continue for 20 years. Bear bile used in traditional Chinese medicine can easily be replaced by herbal or synthetic alternatives, which are cheaper and equally effective. Due to excessive bear bile production bear farmers are constantly trying to find new products to add bear bile to, such as shampoos, beers and various tonics.
In South Korea it has been illegal to extract bile from living bears since 1992. However, there are still bear farms. Bears over the age of 10 can be legally slaughtered (usually in front of the customers) for their bile.
Please sign the petition and ask your friends and family members to sign it too.
This petition is submitted by the Finnish Support Group for Bear Rescue in Asia. The group supports Animals Asia Foundation that rescues bears from bear bile farms.
The Department of Fish and Game is Alaska wants to hunt 900-1400 Black Bears to thier deaths by any means neccessary, including sows and cubs.
This program is to be part of the heavilty crticised aerial wolf-kill program, part of which has already been declared illegal by the courts.
The Department says the hunt is necessary to protect Moose numbers, howver there have been questions raised about the science behind their estimates, why such a large number of bears need to be killed, the "anything goes" methodology of the hunt wherein fair chase and usual hunting ethics dont even apply, and even the plan's practicality - Department officials have themselves admitted that the plan is unlikely to work, and at least one majoy hunting group has said that they do not support it. The public certainly dont. So why go ahead with it?
We are asking that the Department reconsider this plan. To sign the petition, please go to the following link:
We have always found dolphins to be amazing creatures, they have been subjects of works of art, literature, and myth. Dolphins are highly intelligent animals, some think they are more intelligent than humans, which is why their communication methods have mystified and baffled.
Dolphins are friendly, sociable animals who enjoy companionship. They live as families, look after each others young, they love to interact and play.
Dolphins see man as a friend, they follow boats and allow themselves to be approachable. There have been reports of Dolphins saving humans who have found themselves in trouble at sea.
AND WHAT DO HUMANS DO IN RETURN ?
Some humans are happy to capture dolphins, tear them away from their families, exhibit them for so called pleasure, confine them so that people can pay to swim with them.
For conservation ? For the welfare of the Dolphin ?
There are reports that during the capture many of the Dolphins will die, those that survive face a life in captivity. There is not enough space here to debate what captivity does to a highly intelligent animal torn away from its family, here is a link for further reading.
Naomi A. Rose, Ph.D., Marine Mammal Scientist, Treaty Law, Oceans and Wildlife Protection, Humane Society International, has voiced her objection to these plans in many areas,

Just before they are butchered ALIVE they retract and hope their shell will protect them.
It doesn't, they have no protection against hammers, chisels and knives.
The reality is, only one thing can protect them, that is YOU !
A turtle is able to survive without oxygen for some time. That means even when a turtle has been decapitated or its shell is smashed or split into pieces, it can continue to remain conscious. In some situations it can be over an hour before it dies.
Their only hope of protection is YOU !
You can give them that protection in just 20 seconds of your time.
Please sign our Petition, give them the right to a humane end.
I have posted some pictures of the disgusting zoo on the petition.
Please, If you have not done so, take a look at the pictures and consider signing my petition for these animals in el Parque de las Ciencias, Puerto Rico... http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/238521535
A big thank you to all of you that have signed our petition trying to stop Tesco, a well known UK store, selling live turtles in China.
In all of this sorry affair, the WORST part for me is that they allow their customers to take the live turtle away to end its life in any way they choose to. The turtle retracts to avoid being decapitated, the rest I will leave to your imagination, but can involve hammers, chisels and blunt knives. The turtle can then have its organs removed and other parts before its head is cut off, leaving it conscious for a long time. It is estimated that a turtle is eaten in China every 2 seconds, let us at least ensure that their life is ended humanely.
The Petition currently stands at 1,900 signatures, but we need everyone's signature to stand a chance of stopping Tesco.
There are always times in our lives when we need the help of others, I need YOUR help, the turtles need YOUR help. The people that have already signed the Petition need YOUR help, let's join together and put a stop to this.
Please take the 20 seconds to sign our petition, stop this animal cruelty that is allowed just for greed and profit.
It's not bad enough that the tobacco industry has shifted it's focus to 3rd world countries, since we have decided it is bad for us, we have to test on defenseless creatures who rely on us to take care of them.....DISGUSTING & WRONG!!!
PLEASE CROSSPOST FAR & WIDE!
This petition is being sent in on Feb. 10th! Their goal is 15,000, but as of this email, there are only 1,673 signatures. Please help bring this up for the impact of the petition to work!
"Experiment after experiment attempts on even more in rats, mice, hamsters, lambs, dogs, cats, monkeys, and other animals need to be put to a stop at once! This is so disgusting and horrible that animals are forced to go through this. Do your part and help to put this cruel testing to a stop!"
The Dr Hadwen Trust for Humane Research, supported by animal and consumer protection groups across Europe*, has launched a major EU-wide petition urging EU legislators to do everything they can to maximise non-animal replacement efforts.
The mountain caribou is one of the most endangered mammals in North America and an icon for the magnificent Inland Temperate Rainforest region in eastern British Columbia. Industrial logging is not only destroying caribou habitat, but also diminishing opportunities for nature lovers and recreation enthusiasts to enjoy this spectacular region.
Right now, the government of British Columbia is deciding how much caribou habitat it will protect and has prepared a draft mountain caribou recovery plan. Your comments are needed on the draft mountain caribou recovery plan. Take Action NOW!
The draft plan proposes protecting less habitat than the government's mountain caribou science team said would be necessary to fully recover the herds. The proposed plan would instead rely more on predator control -- killing wolves and cougars -- as the primary means of restoring caribou, and would leave much of mountain caribou habitat open to logging, motorized recreation and other industrial uses.
Protecting less habitat will not only diminish chances that caribou will persist in both Canada and the U.S., but could also restrict the international movements of rare carnivores, most of which are listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.
Mountain caribou herds in British Columbia anchor a small population of caribou that range into north Idaho, Washington and northwest Montana. Conserving caribou in the US is absolutely dependent on the effectiveness of recovery efforts in Canada and how much of the mountain caribou's inland temperate rainforest habitat is protected.
International pressure is critical for the recovery of this endangered species.Send your comment TODAY!
save dogs from the philippine DOG MEAT trade January 27, 2007 5:33 PM
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/879609320
Because this exceedingly brutal commercial industry provides a steady flow of income not only to the traders but to individuals in government positions acting in their own interests, the dog meat trade remains unscathed from the Animal Welfare Act. However, House Bill 2991 is currently pending in the Committee on Revision of Laws that provides a stiffer penalty to dog meat traders. Introduced by Representative Francis Escudero, the creation of the bill was based on the need to upgrade an Act that, as noble as the objectives of the law are, the traders remain elusive because the penalty is unrealistic. The penalty must be upgraded.
OUR GOAL is to obtain OVER 50,000 signatures by JUNE 30, 2007. It is obvious that the only way we can ensure that dogs in the Philippines are protected is to place the Philippines government under the international spotlight.

proven and less expensive alternatives to animal testing exist and are widely used in Europe. Yet, under U.S. law, countless animals are tortured and killed each year when clear evidence exists that such tests are not predictive of human outcomes
I just assumed that they weren't, because in the past, I did sign one that was already deadlined, and a message came up saying so after I attempted signing it.
But I appreciate you contacting the author; I'm curious to know myself. Would you mind keeping us posted Pam?
But,some of them are so far past the the deadline date,I wonder if it's worthwhile.
Many of them have the same author,I emailed her on one of them,to see if it was still "live",as it takes time to sign these petitions, particularly if you're on dial-up (like me!)
Protect tigers by re-routing trains away from Tiger Reserve Lalu Prasad Yadav is now credited with engineering the financial turnaround of Indian Railways, which was on the verge of bankruptcy. What makes his performance commendable is that he has left the passenger fares untouched and has found out other revenue streams for railways to make it a cash cow. When Lalu took over, the Indian Railways was a loss-making organisation. The Rakesh Mohan Committee (headed by Rakesh Mohan, secretary, department of economic affairs) had termed it a 'white elephant' and predicted that it was destined to hit Rs 61,000 crore (Rs 610 billion) in bankruptcy by 2015 [18]. Defying all these predictions , the Railways , under Lalu , booked an unprecedented surplus of 110 billion rupees (2.47 billion dollars 77 tigers were estimated to have been alive in the Duhwa National Park in the census in 2005, we cannot afford to lose any more tigers!
The U.S. Navy is still planning on undertaking a scaled back version of their testing of Low Frequency Active (LFA) sonar in the oceans. LFA is proven to injure and destroy whales and dolphins. LFA noise is millions of times more intense than the Navy considers safe for human divers and billions of times more intense than levels known to disturb large whales.
In November, following a ruling by a Federal magistrate, the Navy scaled back its testing plans. But it hasn't scaled back sufficiently, as the sonar can seriously harm marine life. Sign now, and support a ban on such testing.
In March, 2000, during a Mid- range frequency (rather than the Low Frequency bandwidth of LFA test in the Bahamas, four different species of whales and dolphins beached themselves suffering from hemorrhaging/bleeding in the ears. A National Marine Fisheries Service and Navy investigation determined the deaths were almost certainly caused by the LFA test. A follow-on study in February 2001, determined that at least one of those whale species no longer existed in the area.
Mid-range frequencies are already in use world-wide, and are now proven to be very dangerous in certain circumstances. The LFAS system is even more dangerous, as the sounds will propagate farther and be disabling at a greater distance.
Whales rely on their sensitive hearing for survival. A whale cannot survive without its hearing. The Navy's attempts to deploy LFA could result in the extermination of whales and dolphins world wide. SIGN NOW!
Sorry that I've been MIA for the last week or so but very busy with local shelters and doing rescues in the bitter cold that we've been experiencing here in the South. I've been lurking and trying to keep informed.
Tell them to withdraw their dangerous plan to shell Glacier National Park. December 13, 2006 5:15 PM
Speak Out Against an Explosive Plan! Don’t let Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation blast Glacier National Park! The park’s lynx, mountain goats and threatened grizzlies are counting on you!
Forward this message to everyone you know who cares about wildlife.
Dear Benoit Pierre,
Here’s a corporate snow job: Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Corporation wants to use military artillery to launch explosives into one of our greatest national parks.
Glacier National Park is truly a national treasure. Within its vast wilderness and steep slopes live several imperiled creatures, including grizzly bears, lynx and bald eagles.
Launching explosive charges into prime wintering habitat for these creatures is a bad idea. Wildlife in the park can be found year-round near Glacier’s southern border -- the area where BNSF wants to shell. Bombardment could disturb hibernating grizzlies and other creatures, like mountain goats, that are active in this part of the park’s wilderness.
http://action.defenders.org/dontblastglacier For over 100 years, railroad tracks on the southern border of Glacier National Park have been protected from avalanches by snow sheds that help deflect cascading snow away from the railways. But the sheds have fallen into disrepair over the years, threatening rail workers and traffic along this scenic passage.
Instead of using their billions in corporate revenue (almost $4 billion last quarter alone) to repair and build protective sheds over avalanche-prone sections of track bordering the park, BNSF would rather hurl explosives in one of our most majestic national treasures -- a risky plan that threatens the precious wildlife that call this park home.
The National Park Service opposes the railroad's explosive plan. But the corporate giant, armed with powerful lobbyists, has threatened to bypass the Park Service to find friendlier allies in the Federal government. We can stop them!
Turkeys and other food animals are regularly given antibiotics... November 22, 2006 8:54 AM
Turkeys and other food animals are regularly given antibiotics in their feed to promote faster growth and to prevent diseases caused by overcrowded conditions in animal factory farms.
This practice has serious consequences for our health because it causes bacteria to develop resistance to these drugs. When a person gets sick from resistant bacteria, their prescribed antibiotics will not work.
This holiday season, we encourage you to buy turkeys labeled "organic" or "raised without antibiotics" and to sign this petition telling the nation's big turkey producers - including Butterball and Jennie-O - to protect our health and stop putting these drugs in animal feed.

A trail of blood led police to two suspects who allegedly beat a family dog and dragged the animal behind a vehicle in Didsbury. The dog's injuries were so severe; a veterinarian called to the scene had to euthanize the animal on the spot.
"This was definitely, in my 10 years of policing, the most horrendous act I've seen against an animal," said Cpl. Kevin Fischer of the RCMP in Didsbury, 90 kilometers north of Calgary.
A couple found the female collie-Lab cross lying in the street near Ross Ford Elementary School in the northwest corner of town early Sunday. Their frantic phone call woke Dr. Andy Mencarelli, a veterinarian at the Krebs clinic in Didsbury, who went to the scene. The dog's legs were bound together with duct tape and there was a towrope around its neck.
Its head was wrapped in a bag. "There was blood everywhere," said Mencarelli.
The dog was able to lift its head, but in too much shock to make any sound, he said.
When Mencarelli lifted the dog to the back of his truck to euthanize it, the true extent of the animal's injuries became apparent.
"This dog was just broken," he said, adding its neck, pelvis, back and skull were fractured.
Investigators believe the six- or seven-year-old dog endured a beating prior to being tied up and hitched to a vehicle.
"Indications are the dog was dragged behind a vehicle," Fischer said. The dog had no tags, tattoos or obvious identification, but police officers followed a trail of blood to a local home.
Police have laid charges against two teenagers, but Fischer said Wednesday, they are no closer to learning a motive for the crime.
"There is nothing, at this point," he said.
Daniel Charles Haskett, 19, o f Didsbury has been charged under the Criminal Code with injuring/endangering an animal and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. He is also charged with obstructing police.
A 17-year-old male, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with injuring/endangering an animal and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
For adult offenders, each of the animal cruelty charges has a maximum penalty of a $2,000 fine or six months in jail -- or both.
The case is also being investigated by the Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
A conviction under the province's Animal Protection Act can carry a maximum penalty of a $20,000 fine and a lifetime ban from owning animals, but an official said no further charges are being contemplated.
"We have been notified of it and are having some follow up involvement," said Morris Airey, the Alberta SPCA's director of enforcement.
The two suspects are scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Nov. 6 I would like to start a petition to show politicians' and mayor etc.. in Calgary, that others have heard this story and would like to see something done to these two offenders, more than just a fine or 6 months in jail. The two boys should be made an example of, that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated. Let us speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, and let us speak for the poor dog that was defenseless.
The two boys who are being charged with this criminal activity should be made example of if proven guilty. If you agree with this statement please sign this petition.
A dog was abused in Didsbury, involving 2 teenage boys beating it up, duct taping the legs together and dragging it behind a car. The dog was SO badly injured that it had to be put down on the spot. It was the worst crime against an animal that a vetrian RCMP officer had ever seen. The 2 boys that did it will probably get minimal fines and a very short stint in jail. Just don't think that it is fair.....please sign this petition and forward on to your friends and family, and we'll see if we can make an example of these boys.
OOPS- need to give credit where credit is due. This crosspost is from Betty also. There are currently only 24 sigs on this worthwhile petition-I hope that all our members will sign.
Betty G. Elephants Should Not be Forced to Play Polo November 03, 2006 10:07 AM
Tell Cartier That Polo Is No Fun for Elephants
Cartier is sponsoring a game of "elephant polo" in Jaipur, India, on November 18. Elephants who are forced to participate in polo matches are captured from the wild and taken away from their families and homes. They routinely suffer chronic physical ailments, social and emotional deprivation, confinement, and premature death.
Elephants do not naturally ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls, jump through rings of fire, or play polo. In order to force them to perform these confusing and physically uncomfortable tricks, elephants are typically trained with extremely cruel methods that inflict pain and cause fear. They are cruelly beaten with sharp metal bullhooks and are kept chained up.
Please demand that Cartier withdraw its sponsorship of this inhumane sport immediately. Let the company know that Cartier can find other ways to promote its fine jewelry without causing harm to animals. Be sure to forward this alert to your friends and family members and ask them to speak up today:

National Parks Need Your Help November 11, 2006 5:00 PM
For the past 90 years, the National Park Service has been protecting America's irreplaceable natural, historical and cultural heritage. But today, national parks are in desperate need of funding, protections, and attention. Many of America's treasured national parks face problems like:
A severe maintenance backlog. Parks need urgent repairs to visitor centers, roads, and trails.
Ranger shortages threaten the visitor experience and safety at parks.
An annual budget shortfall of more than $800 million.
Air pollution that harms one in three park units in the National Park System.
A plan has been introduced that outlines how to address these problems. By following 5 Ways America Can Fix Our National Parks, the parks will be in great shape before the National Park System's 100th birthday in ten years.

So heartbreaking that petitions are needed. I just wish these things weren't happening at all. I mean WHAT is wrong with people? Would register my usual flaming head here, but today just feel sad about it all! If there was an *angrytears* emoticon, that's what I would post!
It really upset me. A domesticated bear in Russian was given vodka and honey by the King of Spain and then shot! I have written a petition to try and stop this is in the future. Please take a look and sign if you will. Thanks.

Eliminate virtual hunting on the net October 20, 2006 1:31 PM
HOUSTON - Hunters soon may be able to sit at their computers and blast away at animals on a Texas ranch via the Internet, a prospect that has state wildlife officials up in arms.....
Eliminate virtual hunting on the net.The animals used in these hunts are killed in real time as someone pulls the trigger while sitting at the computer.
I too could use some help getting signatures for a very good cause. I wrote a petition to get E-Bay to stop allowing it's members to post animal parts for sale. It is against the rules(not to mention the law) but it isn't monitored. They will pull something for sale if you complain, but I don't think anyone should have to look at some poor dead seal's pelt and then have to complain to get it removed.
This petition has stalled and should have a better response. Please pass this around if you could.
I will start you off with my petition that needs your help! October 19, 2006 8:53 AM
